We already know for certain if you have support buffs you get hammered.
But is it number of total buffs? Could a cor roll himself only/bard sing himself only and still cause hammer? could it be 10+ any buff on total characters? Can you do only hastega and not get hammered? will any one buff on any one character cause it? (non-maneuver)
No one bothered to figure any of that out.
I remember playing around with this with Trusts. Only having Sylvie out using her geomancy (no rolls, no problem jobs) caused a hammer. Similarly, having no buffs and Zeid II being the only problem job caused a hammer.
It's pretty clearly just a binary, where if you have any of the jobs or buff types covered you get hammered and if not you don't.

Guys, guys here is the winner winner chicken dinner setup for this ambu. Also don't judge my recording skills, because this is my first time recording so be nice! My setup is MNK BRD COR WHM RDM SMN and this has been my most efficient setup for this ambu. In fact in this recording this was the fastest kill so far, roughly 1 minute lol. Relevant part starts at 1:28 or so, Fight at 2:55. We get unlucky in silencing this sucker on this run but he melted.
PS: I gotta learn how to record on single window :/, Also eff yeah subtle blow.

Run1 cor1 smn4, all smn afac, 1 smn mew afac. 3smn afac volt. Yw
rune uses "sulpor x3" "one for all" and all "wards", near pt before pulling.
then rune pulls, and afac makes it killed in under 20sec.
Edit: if it goes south for any reason, the rune still lives through it.
Smn should at start rr themselves with Cait.
Rune kites and smn apogee volt. Win

Hell if you're really good you could pull it off with just that many despoils.

I know we’re mostly talking about VD on here but if I were to try lower tiers how many buffs is the maximum to avoid death?
I don’t have any SMNers (so no Cait Sith) but hypothetically could I just run Pro, Shell. Honor, March, and survive? It would be a long shlog but should prevent adds and just quickly reapply those two songs on dispel?

I think 3 buffs will kill you I can't remember for certain though
I know SMN with nothing but avatars favor can get killed depending on their idle HP set

I don’t have any SMNers (so no Cait Sith) but hypothetically could I just run Pro, Shell. Honor, March, and survive? It would be a long shlog but should prevent adds and just quickly reapply those two songs on dispel?
I feel like you would be much better off just getting Haste 2 to avoid hammer entirely and calling it a day at that point since IIRC he can't use Death under Providence below VD?
EDIT: Frogs can be slept so your Bard would still have something to do.

nin/dnc/mnk/thf with haste2 is a good answer too. I know its blasphemous to say this but you CAN melee it just fine without the brd cor geo crutch. it's only 500k hp. (less on not VD)
BUT. Wotg earring is good enough that wotg missions should be a high priority anyway

Yeah they all have earring. Forgot it is same mission quest. Thought I had to do more for caitsith

I said BRD haste because that would be faster to reapply since it’s aoe. I’d have thf thf COR BRD whm. Throw on two songs and go back to pound town. BRD would dd too

VD - PLD/WAR, SMN (Shiva buff most important), RDM, COR (Tact + Allies or Save TP one as roll combo), WAR, SAM.(All DD /THF)
PLD runs in, holds frog in the middle, doesn't engage. Just voke/flash etc. - SMN spams Mewing Lullaby. (RDM of course debuffs frog etc.)
When Tact Roll gives TP: DD will - COR Sneak Attack -> Savage Blade -> WAR SA + Mistral Axe -> SAM -> SA Fudo. Disengage.
Rinse and repeat, add TA + WS behind tank if needed. No hammer will go off, each WS interval with SC is about 30-35% HP. 0 deaths, just a little over 6 min~ from start to finish.

Yeah it'd be quick to get back up but you'd have to get proshell back up too and it's just a lot of damage and aspir it doesn't sound like you have to deal with. Feels very three left turns to me but IDK, give it a shot

3 smns cor rdm pld/run. smns rotate volt/mew. rdm has to be able to land silence. takes all of 4-5 minutes. smns can rotate 1 hrs to speed things up but not needed.

This method does not require 1 hours. If the smns all 1 hour its dead in 15-20 seconds.

You can very much do that on even VD. Just go without cor brd geo.
Kinda blows if adds pop (they will) it's easy, but slow.
