Hello again,

Well I've finally reached level 99 on my first job. I have a couple of guides for what to do after level 99, but I just wanted to check a few things.

I've purchased all the level 117 gear from the Sparks vendor. Can this 117 gear be upgraded?

Should I start collecting my AF gear? Am I right in thinking the AF gear can be upgraded?

Farming job and merit points? Should I start farming these now?

I'm up to the Siren boss in ROV. Will this now be doable with the 117 gear I've got?

The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to start the things that will benefit my character first and then move onto the others.

Thanks

Congratulations, siren should be a joke.
Yes get all your af gear, it can be upgraded to 109, then to 119. And two more times via omen. Also do your dyanmis wins and collect your relic gear (upgrades the same as artifact) relic gear will boost your merit abilities by quite a bit. I would follow a gearing guide on your class from the forums on this site, they are usually updated and incredibly detailed and every class needs different gear.
The second thing i would do is get a 119 weapon or two that you can use to burn down lower content. You can get one from obero after meeting his requirements or even zitah/ruaun escha weps if anyone can help you. Alluvion skirmish weps are also not a bad starter.
I think one of your earlier forum posts said you were a warrior, alluvion skirmosh acro and yorium would be a good starter set as well.
Mainly focus on getting rank 10 in your home nation and doing all the mission lines on all the expacs to unlock all the areas and accessories like moonshade(aug tp bonus).
After youve completed all missions and have a decebt starter set you can begin looking into group content sich as SR or escha bosses or omen to obtain someof the better gear in the guides.
I also recomend trying to hop on a group doing delve or vagary wins as well. And ambuscade your brains out for HQ tokens/gil.

I am happy to help. PST 》 Psyn on Asura.

Id have to say missions are the most important thing next to leveling some kind of support role class to get into majority of parties.

So should I start with the very early content and work through it? What about merit/job points?

Merits, you will get fast enough doing whatever you have to do. Once you get all of your ROV key items.
Job points are certainly more of a down the road thing to do once youv decided youre geared and dedicated.

the gear from the Peacekeeper's Guild is likely a step up from sparks gear (save for the weapons, those are actually solid until you start getting "real" 119 items) if you are keeping up with Tutorial Records of Eminence quests, they will toss you a bunch of REMs tales which will give you a quick head start on upgrading AF/Relic. additionally, you can get some various skirmish pieces which can be really good with a minor gil expenditure. otherwise, if anyone can let you leech some Reisenjima or even Zi'Tah gear, that will put you on very solid footing.

upgrading your AF can be important (especially in the face of Omen) or it can be a foolish expenditure, and this is going to vary from job to job. Dragoon AF is laughable, for example, in the face of most other gear (arguably, AF Legs is the only piece worth upgrading in Omen). I don't know what job(s) you're settling into so I cannot offer input regarding that, but refer to Forum guides here, or on BG for some insight. additionally, your accessory slots are going to be sorely wanting because so many of those are dependent on group content; even the basics tend to be Delve items or better. it's still worth getting a Brutal Earring, Rajas Ring, and Epona's Ring as they have aged surprisingly well depending on the jobs you are looking to play. further, completion of Mission battlefields is required to do the high level versions which people are going to be spamming hard come next week, and offer many pieces that are relevant for someone looking to catch up. additionally, get whatever Ambuscade gear you can. this is pretty much the best "free" gear available to you, and the Job Specific Capes are best in slot for almost every situation you can tailor them to.

as has otherwise been stated, definitely look into leveling some sort of support role to get yourself into the higher tier of content. DD spots are going to be highly fought over and are going to be given to those with the best gear. there is an XP/CP event beginning in a couple days, you should try to make use of that while you can as well, as capping jobs is tedious af, even when you have every RoE boost to CP gain.

now that I have given a daunting wall of text, I will end with this: try and mix and match activities. keep your activities varied to avoid any sort of burn out - because the game has been around so long there is SO MUCH to do.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

One other thing I've noticed is that my Unity Concord points are almost capped. Is there anything I can purchase now that might be of use to me? I can't use the key on the chest because I think the character has to be so many days old.

stock up on keys until you can use them. usually you get trash, but I have gotten 3 Lu Shangs from gobbiebox now across my various mules and main. additionally, you can get rare crafting mats, or even JSE Oboro items (gotten a Priwen, BLM staff in the past).

This is very true. And if you start getting too much crap you can always get mules if you can afford it. From the amount of mains and mules I get pretty good amount of good stuff

Pretty good advice on here. Its already kind of suggested, but i would reiterate Records of Eminence > Intermediate. You can get multiple 119 weapons by doing these relatively quickly. Unfortunately, the weapons are not that good without augmenting, but will outpace your sparks weapon as well as strengthen your trusts.

Getting 5 trusts should also be a priority, and pretty easy to do.

The final suggestion is to do some Ambuscade. You should be able to solo volume 2- very easy in sparks gear with 5 trusts. You still have time to get the NQ armor this month if you grind. That plus an Allouvian Skirmish weapon from the RoE mentioned earlier will put you at iLvl 119 and give you enough accuracy to do some of the lower tier end-game content. You can also get started on an Ambuscade cape in the process.

One warning: Take a good look at the ambuscade armor. The Seluvia armor is really haste deficient and the cost of getting to haste cap may be pretty high. Even with that though, the acc on it and the ability to play 119 content still makes it a decent get.

You get some pretty good gear from escha zone bosses that everyone is free to join in on. Those would help you a lot as well.

Hi again!

I'd like to start by saying a big thank you to everyone for all the advice both here on the forum and in game. It's great to be back playing FFXI.

This month marks 15 years of FFXI and it looks like a busy next few weeks coming up! I would like to wish all the other players out there a very happy 15 years of FFXI!

Getting back to my progress! I've spent the last day or so gathering both CP and Merit points.

Thank you!
