Anyone encounter these crashes? It is really random when they happen. I could be online for an hour or four days straight before I get this crash. I know d3d8.dll is DirectX but I don't know what the problem is with it and why it acts up so randomly.

Are you on windows 10? I experience this from time to time on my Windows 10 Laptop but never on my windows 8 pc. It is very random and I am yet to identify the cause. It seems to be a lot more frequent when I am running more than one instance of windower.

Windows 7. The PC has the most recent recommended updates. This has been happening for a year since I returned. I have just reached the point of exhaustion on my own. Thought I would try here.

I do have a custom resolution 2133 X 900 since I have an ultra wide 21:9. If that makes a difference but, again, sometimes I can go weeks without an issue.

so their are two things that you need to do, turn off shadows, on larger displays for what ever reason its still handled by your cpu and just *** up, not having it on helps a little, then in ffxiconfig turn on graphics stabilization, its a vanilla thing to do, and btw it fixes alot of problems with and with out windower.

try that for a bit and if its still happening at same rate then idk. also game does poorly on stata 3 hdd expecially SSD, the game calls for loaded data and is sent data before xi uses it, then it derps and fails to load some file, and boom, crash. old game does not like new hardware at all.

also it is worth noting that Nvidia embedded graphics (non dedicated/discreet cards) any thing newer than and including gtx 800 series only supports dx 9.1, it will not be backwards compatible with xi. actual cards that are not embedded can do backwards compatibility, its just one of the weird things that is different between full versions of a chip and ones for mobile products.

Thanks, Verb. So I'll try shadows and see if stabilization is on. If that doesn't work could be my SSD on sata 3. I have a 780 ti, I believe, so might be good there.

You've given me some options so I appreciate it.

Any time, also I am using a 780 ti. It is pretty stable as far as gpu is concerned.
