Merit/Job Point Storage & Assignment
By Ecaidiana 2016-03-12 21:15:28
Will they ever introduce a Key Item that allows a player to spend (assign) merit and/or job points without the need to return to the Mog House? As it stands with even just a few of the RoV +30% increase items, it can take longer to Warp to town, enter your Mog House, and assign your earned points than it takes to actually earn the 30 merit points!
This is a massive inconvenience at this day and age where limit points can be earned so quickly, yet still require leaving your camp to return to town and spend them. In all honestly, taking any additional time to get to an ideal camp is practically a waste of time...
Capacity Points is a little different as they accumulate at a slower pace than Limit Points, and you can hold up to 500 Job Points at a time before needing to spend them. This seems like a large oversight...and obviously there is massive room for improvement here by either increasing the total Merit Points you can hold at one time substantially...or allow assignment to occur in the field; away from the Mog House.

Well you can hold 75. The option is under the HP/MP category.

I don't understand why, in 2016, there are limits to the amount of merits we can hold.

I am aware that you can spend several trips worth of merit points to boost your cap from 30 to 75...but even so it does not solve the issue of having to interrupt an individual's or group's groove quite frequently to go spend them (especially if you have yet to boost your cap to 75, or if you are in a "burn" party that can earn a large amount of limit points in a very short time frame).
It's an easily remedied, archaic nuisance that should be looked into. Instead of spending Merit Points to increase my cap...how about I spend Merit Points to "charge" a spell to create a Key Item that let's me assign merit points in the field?

most people at this time have everything capped, so only reason you need points is high tier fights, so you are limited to have a KI on you and 7 more kills, (depending on fight) that is the only real reason to have merits anymore.

Would've been kinda nice if they made extra merit points go directly to that Goblin, the way it is now it's probably not even worth the trip. Even if you didn't have to go there the amount of merits you'd need to get cool things from it have ridiculous prices.
It's not like he sells anything but vanity stuff anyway. I want my glowy weapons!

go back to doing 200xp a kill and you wont have to run back to mog house so often...

What about the new or returning playerbase? What happens when you are in a group with someone that is not merit capped and they are in some key role then suddenly "sorry guys, got to go to town and spend merits...chill for a bit" every 15-20 minutes!
I've had times I'm not even trying to earn Limit Points (quest, missions, etc) and happen to hit my Merit Point cap...then I have to decide if I go and spend and interrupt my quest/mission or keep going and lose out on the exp and limit points.
These are both dumb problems to have at this point in the game...

You okay with having all of your merits reset if they went back to this? This is the type of response I would expect from someone that is already capped and could care less about new or returning players that are not.

It would certainly be a nice change, but these days you're probably more likely to cap merits for every single job before you master even one job on JP, so my advice would be to not interrupt whatever you're doing to spend your merits- just spend them anytime you're back at your house, and before you log off for the day or whatever.
The "wasted" merits is an awful feeling for a short while, but I've found it goes away pretty quickly.

Solution Idea #1
Have a level 99 job speak to one of the Magian Moogles to flag the quest. You must bring 75 stored Merit Points (this means you have to spend the points to expand your Merit Point cap) along with something like x25 Pluton, x25 Beitetsu, and x25 Riftborn Boulder to the Magian Moogle then wait 1 game day to receive a Key Item that opens Merit Category point distribution in ALL areas (not just the Mog House).

Unrelated, but I agree with this as much as my other complaint about 2016 FFXI: Weakness timers. Is there any reasonable explanation as to why we have to wait 3-5 MINUTES to unweak in a battle? 1 would be sufficient. Now, it's just an inconvenience.
Oh, and merits practically fall off of trees. As stated above, don't even worry about running back to spend merits, as they literally can be capped in a matter of minutes. Those can be spent when you return to town, but are not a reason to leave a great exp session over.

that is a good point regarding weakness timers, better to put that into the SE forums

I have to disagree, with a reason. Saying that I dont se a reason why they could'nt be lowered to 3Mins, and give Arise different benefits (like being risen with PV, SV, a 2x length Haste, and Stoneskin).
If Weakness was any shorter then 3mins then it would mess with NM regen time after a wipe accross board. I'm sure they have already altered NM's in Unity and Escha to de-pop either exactly 5min after wiping a part or 4min 45secs because when I solo Im ready to go again then monster despawns (after defeat Im on the floor maybe 10-20secs waiting for NM to walk away.)
So a weakness of 1min would mean a simple DoT on the NM at all times incase of wipe and you could wipe 3-4 times in a 15min fight keeping the NM from regaining HP. Thats one reason I can think of without thinking, i'm sure there are many more.

Because death in a battle needs penalty?
Other wise we will just all dia the nm after wipe, RR up, recover in 1 min, zerg, dead again, dia, RR, repeat until NMs dead.
If 5 weak time is "inconvenient", just don't die.

I have no problem spending the earned merits after iv returned to town.. its not worth it to focus farm merit points. I would be more interested in a homepoint within the moghouse or removing the zonetime to enter a moghouse. Or being able to see yells from the moghouse!
But how about those inventory limits.... amirite?
