PC Direct3D problems
Have a problem hopefully someone can assist with. My computer updated to windows 10, Which 11 doesn't support. Does anyone know a way to revert it back to an earlier Direct3D user so i can get my game going again?
I know several people using FFXI on Windows 10 without issues. I'm not sure Direct3D is going to affect anything.
What problem are you having with running XI on windows 10? Asura.Azeran said: » Have a problem hopefully someone can assist with. My computer updated to windows 10, Which 11 doesn't support. Does anyone know a way to revert it back to an earlier Direct3D user so i can get my game going again? XI runs fine on Win 10. Try searching for "Windows Features" with Cortana, click on the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" result. Go down the list to "Legacy Components", make sure the box is checked and expand it by clicking the + sign next to it. "DirectPlay" should show up, make sure it's checked, too. Click Ok at the bottom of the window and try running FFXI again. Sorry for the delayed reply, I called ffxi support, and from what they said i couldn't use it on windows 10 because it wasnt supported, i cant seem to find the legacy components.
I went through and checked for the legacy components and the direct play components both are on. I've gotten to game load up and it pushes me out giving me the error message, "Terminated as error occurred in FINAL FANTASY XI. Failed to initialize Direct3D. Please check that this computer has the required specifications to run final fantasy XI. (-1)" Any assistance would be appreciated.
Sorry to hear about your problems, just cause people know someone who can run it on 10 doesn't mean everyone can, ffxi is old and there are tons of compatibility issues with newer systems.
I had the same problem, and after hours of failed 'fixes' I gave up and went back to windows 7. Even on 7 I still struggle to make this game run smoothly. I had similar issues when first running FFXI on Win10 but it turned out my settings in FFXI Config needed to be updated and I had to go through and find the file path for the EU config files because Steam FFXI Config runs the US tools.

I initially had a problem too and forgot what it was i did to fix it. I remembered it was turning on the legacy components & updating ur display drivers off of the manufacturers or companies website not through your computer properties.
If I remember correctly I fixed this error by setting it to Windowed mode instead of Full Screen, after turning DirectPlay on.
Google a lower Direct X and download and replace? What Direct X is installed currently?
It sounds like you need to update your video card driver and verify directx11 is installed.

that worked for me I had to replace with a lower version of Direct X when I downloaded direct X 11 to play Elder Scrolls online. It came with a newer version which I had replaced with. When I loaded FFXI I found the same issue as Azeran. I replaced it with I think 7 or 8 and FFXI came on just fine there after.

ffxi 11 runs fine in windows 10 here. What information brings you to the conclusion is something with your direct3d? nothing in the post explains that, or is it merely a guess ? When you seek advice or help with something it is generally better to bring in objective facts, instead of unsupported claims and/or guesses. There is a huge lack of information about your system and even the problem you are trying to solve. Also it should probably have been posted under technical support rather than a server specific forum area. |
