I remember on Windows Vista and 7 you originally had to download a special custom POL.exe from the SE website for the game to correctly run.
Is this necessary as well on Windows 10? Or can you skip this step if you use the recently released client on SE's website?

Talking about these files
I assume they contain the whole game and all of the expansions and miniexpansions.

Any further special "step" I have to follow to make sure FFXI works correctly on Windows 10?

None. I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 by installing it on top and everything was working right from the start.

So you're having Windower problems?
Hmmm...
Worth going into the Windower thread and ask for more info I suppose.
Thanks!

You might have to enable legacy Direct Play support assuming Windows 10 doesn't automatically ask you to enable it after running Windower for the first time. You can do it manually by entering "Windows Features" in Cortana's search field, which will bring up "Turn Windows features On or off." Go down to "Legacy Components", make sure its box is checked, then expand it and check off the DirectPlay box.

thanks ^^
I'll try that. I already had to check on legacy system in the BIOS so that it would run windows 7 on another partition. I didnt think of it for windows 10 programms. I read a few things when it was still windows 8.1 but all failed. I did managed to get it to go till loading the FFXI then crash. :p

I've already made a long response in another thread about this so ill keep it short. I tried everything troubleshooting for hours upon hours, anything that will be suggested here, i tried. I finally got it working when i uninstalled ffxi and did a windows 10 revert to a fresh install. I had just got the computer in the mail and did an install/updates the day before. All i did was use the revert back to fresh install option windows 10 has, did the exact same things i did the day before, except this time it worked. I dont know why, but if all else fails this worked for me.

Some people seem to have an issue when windows upgrades to 10 with their ffxi, this came preloaded with 10 and i dont know if it was a fresh install or upgraded but it also came with acer bloatware on a partition so im guessing they messed around with it at some point.

I installed XI and Windower from scratch on a surface 3 a bit back and had no issues.
