I hate when people say that. They just don't get it.
The easy thing is being a melee DD. This is in no way specific to BLU. All melee DDs literally sit there and auto attack until they can WS(SAM does WS in a specific order, but it's still auto attacks until you can WS). The thing that is tough is differentiating yourself from other melee DD as BLU(and even other BLU, since there is still some of that stigma hanging around from bad BLUs in the beginning of SoA) by knowing what spells to use, and what gear sets to use, and what traits to have.
Not only that, but being able to adapt to situations where melee damage isn't your best option, by switching spell sets and swapping to caster gear, really separates a BLU from any other Melee DD.
Wait so you mean standing there and spamming CDC and nothing else is wrong?

I guess you missed the sarcasm, the guy I quoted was the one who said blu was easy and in the same line listed several reasons why blu is NOT easy to pick up on lol.

I guess you missed the sarcasm I wasn't talking about you. I thought about editing that to specifically state that I know you don't think that way, but I thought it was pretty clear that you didn't. I was merely commenting on the mindset.

Gear-sets are a must though and knowing which spells to use and which traits to set pre-battle and in some cases mid-battle can make all the difference. Keep your little mandy chin up. :D If BLU is so easy can you enlighten me as to why so many people have trouble with being one well?
For the same reason so many people hate idiotic reality television shows, yet they've dominated the ratings for nigh on two decades.
Because there are more dumb people than not.
Edit: And even smart people like to check out and be dumb sometimes.
Really? Becuase I know a lot of BLUs who are smart or do other jobs better, and aren't great at BLU.
The analogy is terrible.
If BLU is easy to play then everyjob in this game is twice as easy to play, and therefore one would be inclined to believe the game was easy.
A quick PUG and you will see that is not the case.
Then when a bunch of good people are together the game is easy/easier. People seem to forget what it is like to not be their static or a group without an Idris, etc.
I know a lot of people that are otherwise smart that watch reality television.
All I'm saying is that nothing in XI is really difficult unless you're actually bad at understanding the way the game works (and I know those people are out there, I've played with some that are very dear to me actually; just like there are people I love in this world that actually like Duck Dynasty. *gag*).
Edit: Frankly I just think we're saying the same thing in vastly different ways. Some jobs are easier to play than others, but nothing is actually difficult once you understand game mechanics. The problem is some people simply are unwilling )or are unable) to do that.

Umm, you forgot casting Nature's Mediation every minute thirty and possibly casting Tenebral Crush. That's pretty difficult, man.

The sad reality is... Final Fantasy 11 is just not fair.
Job system is not fair.
NM/bosses gimmicks are not fair.
The gear/armour system is not fair. Augment system is definitely not fair.
Party system is not fair. Example: Taking 7 ppl and killing a UNM is soooo much harder than taking 6 ppl. This forces the leader to exclude jobs/players.
At this stage of the game I would have thought SE would have smartened up and made the game inclusive for EVERYONE THAT IS STILL PAYING THEIR SUBCRIPTION FEE. The game shouldn't be a chore, yelling/recruiting people for certain events/bosses/NMs are a bloody chore. People should be able to play jobs they enjoy and be able to participate in EVERY event. Players still in Vana'diel should be having fun!
We've had the final major update and we still have posts of x job is better than y job... Certain jobs are still collecting dust. People are quitting left right and centre. For those of us still playing... Yeah I feel burnt out too. Maybe it's time to log off in Reisenjima and end subscription.
The game never was fair and will never be fair.
Game balance, job balance, gear balance - my arse. When sh!t is random (augment system) or so exclusive, it ain't balanced.
I'm still playing and paying as there are some redeeming aspects, mainly the interaction with other nice players but as they dwindle... The grind just becomes meaningless.

adapt what exaclty?

I had such high hopes for the last update. I do realize there will be more updates but at this point it seems unlikely that things will change much. The story was amazing and kudos to SE for that, but the game is in a bad place.
It might not even be completely SEs fault. The community mindset about how to get things done has always been efficiency and parse driven. This has barred so much of the population from being able to do a lot of game content.
I've only just been back a few months but I feel like if I don't spend ALL of my free time on XI, I wont be able to join any group content; at least not for a very long time. This makes it seem like a second job, and coming home after working 8 hours to grind and perform a second job has me definitely feeling burnt out.

This makes it seem like a second job, and coming home after working 8 hours to grind and perform a second job has me definitely feeling burnt out.
I can certainly understand this feeling as I've had it (and still do I guess, to some extent) myself. But may I ask you this?
Is that how the game actually is or is it simply your perspective of it? For a very long time I had problems finding a good job and I had a lot of time to play FFXI due to my erratic schedule and my wife's steady schedule, and I kept up very well on top of things.
Over the past five years+ though, my playtime has steadily decreased and for a while I was very bitter at not being able to attain the same levels of personal progress to which I was accustomed.
But eventually I realized that the only person really upset about it was me. Even the friends I had who still kept that level of play up didn't care if I didn't, we do stuff because we're friends. I still hold up my own tasks. I mean, If we kill something in 8 minutes or 10 doesn't really matter when you get 15 regardless.
Yeah the game has problems, and I'm the first to *** about them, don't get me wrong. But just try to make sure you're not letting yourself force more pressure onto yourself over a game than is necessary.
Or, inversely, if it actually is too much to keep up, just call it a wrap and remember the good times.
I suspect I'll be doing that before too much longer myself.

Yea, not my intention for my comment to morph into such a crap-fest. Anyways, I'm saying BLU is easy to play if you can sit there and tinker with sets and mechanics. After a while it changes into this beautiful job capable of doing several things and sometimes several things at once. OP, its just my opinion. At the end of the day and argument, you make the final call on what is you wish to do. Play any job, and play it well and to the best of your ability. If you feel burnt out, try playing something else. I got burnt out a few months ago and started playing Sims 3 and then picked FFXI back up again. But yea, enough from me. Have fun.
Hello, I apologize if I sound whiny here, this might serve as venting mostly... still, I recently started to have problems with enjoying the game.
I'm a quite casual player, I don't aim to be the best of the best, and just want to feel like I'm doing a good job.
Up till around a month ago, I was playing as BLU, mostly cause I liked the job in other Final Fantasy games. It was ok, but even having obtained like 99% of all spells, I still was not doing much of a great job. On some occasions I was even kicked from a party, because I could not compare with the pro players.
After some thought I switched to GEO, and boy, did I fall in love with it! It's not hard to play, and even if I don't have the 900 skill points that people often talk about, I did have parties, where I received praise for what I did. I helped one really pro THF player fight Vedrfolnir! I turned that NM's evasion to dust! Things felt good, but my equipment still left something to be desired, so that THF buddy suggested 2 things:
-I should level THF, that way I could get a lot of money
-I should beat all Seekers of Adoulin missions, to unlock Sinister Reign, where I'll easily fit in as a GEO, plus there's awesome equipement there.
So I started that, but these missions got INSANE. So difficult!!! Some friends told me that that's how it goes, but I read online, and found people who beat these missions just with trusts, back when the Trust limit was 3! Heck, some even beat them solo, underlining how "they're too good to use trusts". That felt like rubbing salt into my wounds.
I knew I was doing something wrong, so I thought I should buff up my equipment. My general idea was to reforge up my AF/Relic/Empyrean Armor, but that requires those Rem's Tale Chapters. I can manage the Chapter 1-5 fights, but the 6-10 were brutal. True, I did not try them for months, but they ended in such fatal ways, that I rather not give them a try anytime soon, so for now, I farm copper vouchers, login points, to exchange them for those chapters, so that I could potentially upgrade some AF, kind of hoping to at least upgrade one for a job that could easily handle those Ark Angel fights to get more chapters easily, but that keeps changing.
For a while THF seemed like the best investment, but once the missions got hard, I noticed someone shouting for help with a mission, being told to just play BST. I figured I'd try BST, but then I was told that the job got nerfed, so it's useless now.... I did manage to progress in the Adoulin missions, cause I found someone to help, and that person.... Good Lord. So many attempts at fighting Balamor, not even taking away 50% of his energy bar, but there comes this DNC/SAM and kills the guy within half a minute!!! So that seemed like a new direction, but boom, another mission, someone brings a BST and says he'll solo the thing, which he did! I questioned how this works, since the job was apparently nerfed, to which he said that it was nothing to kill the job. And ..... and then someone told me that I should level WHM right now, cause the Yorcia Weald boss in the "Yggdrasil Beckons" mission is hard without one, and...... I'm losing it!
Suddenly it feels like I have to have all jobs leveled, I have to have all equipment for all of them, I should know spells for all the jobs, have all skills caps. I'm.... I feel like I'm going insane.
Each day is just a wild goose-chase where I:
-Farm copper vouchers
-Farm stuff in dynamis to make money (likely spend on getting the dagger for unlocking "Rudra's Storm" for THF)
-Do colonization missions, cause GEO might need that later
-Level any given job at the moment
-Attempt a mission
This starts to become such an insane chore, that I play the game whenever my computer is on, even when I'm at work.... and yet, regardless of all that effort, I'm still this weak n00b who dies at the drop of a hat.
So with all that said.... with all that venting... instead of now madly leveling WHM, I figured I'd write this, and possibly hope that some experienced player might snap me back to my senses and tell me what I'm doing wrong.....
Thank you for your attention
