1 in 8 chance of losing automatically right away. (Picks Earth)
3 in 7 chance of losing automatically anyway, just takes longer. (Dark, Lightning, Ice)

I know people that level Job A to 70, but couldn't beat Maat so went back and leveled Job B to beat him.

Then took Job A and B to 75. But it is rare.

I do wonder how many people quit the game do to the Maat fight though.

i went 1/1 on whm/rdm/smn/drk/war/sch.
i haven't gotten to dnc and sch.

so if i had to do it on every job i'd not have a problem with it.
