It seems that there are 3D printed versions of Destiny weapons.
I was curious, does anyone know if it'd be possible to have a Murgleis 3D printed & if so, how would I go about doing it/having it done? My original intent was to have one forged by a smith but~ the estimate I was given was roughly a grand, so I figured perhaps this would be easier/cheaper. :x

3D printing is limited in the size it can do at one time. To have anything near full size would require several prints and piecing things together. You would need to have a model of what you wanted printed converted into the appropriate format, generally STL or similar. If you want something small to put on a shelf, and you can come up with the model, there are several companies that have instant quote functions on their websites if you do a search for them. Solid Concepts is one with instant quote function, I think. That would give you an idea of the cost. Shapeways does things similar to this that are more artistic than dimensionally controlled and they have items for sale that people have created the CAD for so you can get an idea of price that way, too.
If you were to have it done by the company I work for, and you wanted a full size print and we had to model it, I'd estimate your cost to be well more than what you were quoted for a hand forged replica.
If you live in an area that has maker spaces available to you, you can take the class they require and do it yourself for much less money if you can provide the model.
Also, you can look at grabcad and possibly find some models of swords to work with if you can get a program to edit the files.
Edit: example of 3D printed pieced together items:

Oh, you mean the thread I made because my father had just died, I had no job, and so both my mother and I were about to be on the street? Not quite what you said, but yeah, yeah I did... We got a little money from it, some aid from my mother's boss, and we managed to pull things together for the most part.

Only got hired last week but I have been gettin as many hours as I can so things are looking up in that regard. Once everything is sorted out and I have the extra money I'm wantin to get this done just so I can have the sword I never finished making in game. :x
Thank you. :D

Heh, I find it kinda funny that people were spending the same amount for a digital version of the weapons not too long ago.
Wonder how much it would be for functional weapons, thinking more along the lines of a Yoichi. (Although the looks on people faces at the range when you pull out a Death Penalty would be priceless...)

Heh, I find it kinda funny that people were spending the same amount for a digital version of the weapons not too long ago. That was part of the mentality behind the idea quite honestly. I honestly think it's cheaper in terms of time to have one forged for me than to make one in game, 150 hours of work minimum wage is around 4 weeks full time and would be more than enough to have it forged. 150 hours in game when I still played wouldn't get it finished though, I spent more than that just getting it half way done. : /

If you go on Amazon, you can find most RPG/video game weapons (mainly swords/knives, though) starting at 80/120$ for the lower quality (still an okay piece of metal to put on a shelf or use to cut watermelons).
Something worth 1000$ is something using a specific metal and is mainly paying the person. It'd probably be of a much higher quality than those industrially made weapons I'm talking about above, but if you don't have much money and would be happy with a still decent replica, you should try Amazon and similar websites.
I remember checking about a year ago and there was this huge hype about the sword used by Law in One Piece. It was sold for like 80/90$ and was pretty decent for whoever wanted an easy cosplay or decoration where it's allowed. I don't know if you have any laws against this category of weapon in the US, though, this may be an issue. Most weapons are sold with a non sharpened blade, which usually helps their classification if it comes down to it.

I don't think there are any FFXI weapons replicas around that aren't made specifically on someone's request..

Yeah I wasn't able to find any Murgleis replicas anywhere which is part of why I got a quote from someone who could forge it instead. I mean, if you can find one awesome, but~ I had no luck personally.

Did you ask the guy is he was using high quality materials/if it was possible to use lower quality materials in order to have something more affordable?
Most of the weapons I'm talking about are sold by companies that usually accept new projects. You could send them a picture/model of the weapon you want and they can make one for the price range I mentioned above, using standard materials.

Murgleis is very close to Nero's sword, it wouldn't cost more than 120$ given that it's a rapier.

Quite honestly I got the quote around a year ago. I might see if I can get back in touch with them and check out how exactly they were planing to make it/what the current price range would look like.

I'm not looking for an amazing quality of blade, not for now at least. If you've any specific locations that'd be awesome. :D

I spent so long playing my RDM, I really just want that specific sword. Also plan to get a RDM Chapeau but I can't find any standalone ones that look good. D:

I've honestly been curious about this as well, since I've wanted a real life replica of Ochain made, after spending a year and half of pure agony making it in game. Something to take away from Vana'diel and place above the mantle to showcase how I learnt that if I stick to it, I really can accomplish anything I set my mind to, as well as a bit of "Hah! I own you in AND out of game!" mentality.
Swords and people willing to forge them are not too rare, and due to the polygon nature of some older MMO weapons, some even resort to doing wood cuts to maintain the blockiness of said weapons. Oddly, unless you want the Hylian Shield, there doesn't seem to be nearly as many people readily able or willing to deal with shields, from my experience.
From an older thread, I believe someone brought to attention an issue with 3D printing XI stuff, being that the base models are nowhere near the quality of the ingame ones, due to the way Square has them rendered for the game or something along those lines. I think they showed a before and after image, where the before was extra janky and blocky, but the after is the smoothness we expect from playing the game. Is that still an issue?

That's the thread I seen about how the models are not really printer friendly.
From reading through the thread, doesn't sound like they really had any major breakthroughs over the years, mixed with a lack of interest. Just one poster saying he would touch up models if someone sent them, and he never replied and the thread went to purgatory as a result.
