A few years ago, a friend of mine, Yophill-- began a very ambitious project on our public Minecraft server.
Ultimately it was his goal to reconstruct all known areas from FFXI within Minecraft. He got as far as building a very large and very meticulous model of Jeuno and the nearby Qufim Island. Today I decided to film a short tour of his work on Jeuno:
Not long after Jeuno was completed, we stopped hearing from Yophill. His personal life had become quite busy, and last I heard he was playing Final Fantasy XIV. He stated that building a complete Vana'diel within Minecraft would be difficult because the areas in the game do not scale together the way they should if it were ever a real place and not divided into so many individual zones.
Later we decided we could connect zone-lines exactly the way they are connected in FFXI by using command blocks paired with tripwires or pressure plates that could teleport users to specific coordinates to function as zone lines.
Some screenies:
All of this was done over the span of only a few months by the one builder, who had also been working on several other very large projects.
Now that we know there will be no new areas added to the game after a certain date, the idea of constructing the whole of Vana'diel feels a lot more realistic.
Right now I am looking to see if anyone might be interested in helping to continue this project-- building one zone at a time to be connected together later using the aforementioned "zone lines."
We plan to release a downloadable copy of the world that contains Minecraft Jeuno in the near future. Until then, the map is currently being hosted on our public server (play.pokeheavenMC.us).
