I do find it fairly lol worthy. My favorite is the people trying to blame the linkshell community or this site.

If this site wanted to hack accounts, FFXI would crumble.

lol at you for having no idea what's really going on here. After a brief glance, the story posted in the other thread (which this thread should be in) suggests one of two things:

1) They got hit with a keylogger/malware program that allowed an outside agent to hijack a player's connection and red-dot them while assuming control of the character. This is a computer security issue, depending on their browser of choice and how secure they had made their computer and browsing habits, this goes from player stupidity (opening the door to OP's comment) or really shitty luck because their security didn't catch it (OP is totally off base).

or

2) Somebody's figured out how to execute a man-in-the-middle attack on FFXI. That's a wee bit worrying.

I really doubt it's a MITM. Too sophisticated for the FFXI equivalent of a smash-and-grab. The malware is still a cut above script kiddie programming, but easier to write and execute if you can force the player's computer to act as a proxy while locking them out of POL. This in itself isn't out of the range of possibility provided you can get the program past security... which comes down to the strength of your security and if the heuristics would pick this up. Of course, all that falls apart if the user is stupid. No amount of security will help you if you override warnings to download a malicious file.

This is a little idiom that people in computer and network security live by, though the exact wording differs:

No amount of security will help so long as the user is a moron.
