Back in the Day: Getting my first job (Dragoon) to level 75 (back when 75 was still the cap) and felt like I accomplished something great especially during the "loldrg" era, it was mind numbing to get through but I did and it felt amazing.

Within the past couple years: My first Wildskeeper Reive was at Yorcia Weald. I was new to WKR's and was on my monk during the time. I saw Yumcax (aka Yummy, lol) for the first time and attempted to fight him but quickly discovered I was no match. So I was resting after getting killed and there were like over 100+ ppl in the wkr zone, most of which was wither weakened or were afk or fighting, I'd venture it was the former lol. So anyway as I was resting I think a blm got Yummy's attention and dragged him over to the entrance of the wkr zone.

He used Uproot or something else (forgot the name of the move) and basically killed over 30+ ppl weakened/afk at the entrance...I was O__O; wtf? So yeah, first wkr and the first time I experienced a mpk... but was freaking lmao irl as that was one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed in FFXI. Haha. :P

Oh, one other thing. I saw the first confirmed relic weapon in action a few days after it's completion.

I guess one of the coolest things I ever saw in game happened in Aby Grauberg.

Three friends and myself wanted to go kill Raja for his pants, for some reason. We had myself on RDM, a NIN, a something else that I don't recall, and a Rune Fencer, which was still a relatively new job that I knew almost nothing about. It was soon after its release, and said RUN had his AF set and a Bereaver.

We pop Raja and the NIN tells us all to stay off it for now, which wasn't hard for me as a RDM in empy +2. NIN gets Imperial Decree'd and dead very fast, so the RUN dashes in, saying "Let me try!"

Other party member was hauling *** back to get a brew, while I raise the NIN and tell the RUN "Don't, you'll die trying."

My jaw proceeded to drop as I watched him quite easily solo Raja.

That is what made me want to play Rune Fencer. :D

Yeah, it's not much, but it was cool to me.

I guess another would have been watching the paladin kill Eald'narche with Intervene five seconds before we timed out. Aegis, meet face.

Though that may have been more funny than awesome.

The first time I saw SAM "solo" Wopket also qualifies.

Any YouTube of Mischief/Tundro/Tychefm soloing ridiculous crap on Scholar works too. (I mention them because they're on my server.)

A long time ago I was hanging around Jugner forest for some questing and I decided to hang around the Spore Hollow. I spent a while there and eventually the mushrooms started to puff and glow like crazy. It produced some sort of mist effect (simulating spores).

It was neat.

Went to Behemoth's Dominion for my first time. Lv40 something DRK.

KB was up.

Fast forward to 2005.

Since this thread got me pondering, reminded me of the first time I saw the Aurora in Qufim. Pretty rare occurrence, and caught me by surprise, as you exit the cave, past the deadly evil weapons, was quite nice!

My favorite thing would probably most any sunset in the game. or the fire in mount do---ifrits cauldron.

Coolest thing I ever saw was back in the 75s days when I was starting to do my merc rank ups. I was looking for the warhorse footprint and actually saw the Dark Rider.

Of course I had the pleasure of this meeting again while I lvled my mule in the mire and he killed me lol.

for me it'd have to be drg at 52, being asked to to colibri camp cause folks were desperate. I couldnt hit a thing even with sushi, and most of the pt were asking the leader to kick me for a 55 that showed up half an hr later. Then i hit a 1.5k penta thrust, and they were like, ok, you'll do. sorry.... after that point i got 1 tell i think along the lines of "you put my faith back into drg DD's" as it was pretty lol drg unless uber gear back then =/

One of the coolest things was going to watch a friend getting his relic and seeing the in-game owl in the tree follow me, turning it's head as I moved from one side of the area to the other :), totally didn't expect it.

300+ LL claims with no drop.. Was epic.
While doing that I seen a fully geared lvl 99 Drk With apoc miss a lizard twice and a lvl 40 thf that was with him one hit it with a sneak attack. Not gonna name names but you know who you are! lol

I think that drk quit the game soon after..

While not huge I solo'd Think it was Steelfleece (the HNM ram in Konch w/e highlands) as BLM at Lv75. It was big for me. Took like 20 minutes and tons of Spirit Takers.

I remember when i just started playing my war was mid 20's I remember watching a ballista match there was a drk/nin dual weilding swords and just destroying everyone.

The thing that sticks in my head is from near the beginning of my playing time.

I shouted in Jeuno for help unlocking the DRG job. I was all flagged for the BCNM battle against the dragon.

A Mithra DRG said she would come along and get me through it.
Into the BCNM. She took one look at the dragon, said "[Too Weak]" in party chat, then Jumped and 1-shotted it. lol

I saw an ice elemental in double ice weather.

That old video from around '04 of Seyonne soloing the Sea Horror. Made me roll Dragoon.

In game? I don't know, really can't think of a single moment. I guess just the initial play through the game seeing all the zones and absorbing the world for the first time. Sarutabaruta and Valkurm Dunes in particular are really nostalgic.

One cool thing I saw is recently. Put on theif gear from inventory go to bee wildskeeper sneak attack rudra storm on bee 36k damage!!!

Crazy damage. Sam needs a buff now.

mind you some of the absoloute funniest things i ever saw in this game occured on Fenrir server during the hight of Hnm camping days and the war of bot programs.

GM being mpked by Palidor at dark ixion trying to steal from Grizzfunk.

Vrtra being dragged to the top floor above KRT

King Behmoth being spawned in east Ronafare.

A epeen pld getting smoked to nq turtle with 5 whms to back him up in under 30 sec.

kclub burning of nidhog and kb was funny with 150 + ppl in aery.

the first dynamis with Runebeares with david dyna sandy with lvl 65 ppl complete farm never made it past the initial fountain.

a guy from omen who got banned during a late night fafnir camp for saying 2g1cup weblink in say and banns for dropping the n word in say.

the thousands of accounts banned for the salvage dupe.

most recent funniest thing though was the geo glitch that would crash the server which caused a 4 hr emergency maint.

and the serious atempt to kill AV which lasted so long it was putting ppl in the hospital for fatigue and made cnn news lol.

Running around in KRT as lvl 15 warrior with no subjob, and entering the wrong tunnel from the area where Spook is. Got massive gob aggro and died, and out of nowhere a full AF rdm showed up and raised me. Was my first raise and the first time I'd ever seen full rdm AF, and on top of that he was jp - I was so impressed! He escorted me to safety too. :D

Not so much something I "saw", and it actually wasn't "cool" as much as "game-changing" (literally).

I was on Ventrillo with many members of my current LS (BeyondTheLimitation) -- before I was in it, but was good friends with many people who were -- when they attempted Pandemonium Warden. This was one of the first serious attempts, and it was the one that went on for hours, and hours, and hours, ad nauseam (literally). People were passing out, getting sick and frustrated, it was brutal and was the big impetus in SE adjusting difficulty on some mobs and setting rage timers to prevent that (Absolute Virtue was a fight they had participated in as well when it was just insane, but had found various ways to win by then), and it was surely a factor in the way the game now functions.

So "easy" mode or not, it was really something to be part of or witnessing at all, especially talking to them as it was going on because it was just...brutal. Absolutely brutal. All the people who wax nostalgically about "how the game is now too easy" or "the was better when everything was harder"...these were some of the elite of the elite at the time and it drove them to quit playing because it was simply horrible game design.

Just sayin'.

The time when I dragged the treant nm in battalia all the way to the fish bots and the massacre that ensued was *** glorious

About that geo glitch... I know it intimately.

Myself and several others were trying to kill Hyoscyca for KI, and we had a geo up in melee with us as normal.

Cue charmga...

Cue a massive DC, we had no idea why but everyone ever disconnected at that time.

When we were finally allowed to log back in we all appeared at the waypoint nearby.

So, yeah, that could have been us. /sweatdrop.
