You can see that the "trick" comes by disguising the fact that you are essentially subtracting the year of your birth from 2009 (current year). Add to that 100 multiplied by your original number and you stick that original number on the front.
Try imagining it is one year from now, and the trick won't work. You would have to increase the 1758 by 1.
