I'm a huge fan of (good) anime, and one of the key factors for deeming an anime as "good" is the soundtrack--Not just the opening and ending songs, but especially the background music, and how it enhances the overall feel of the anime as well as the ambience of specific scenes, whether serious or freakin' hilarious :D

For example, I've been listening to THE THIRD ~Aoi Hitomi no Shoujo~ almost non-stop now because of how great the soundtrack is. (It's a pretty damned awesome anime as well, ranked one of the highest IMO, but surprisingly not as well known as other anime.) It has a lot of "scenic" scenes--panoramic views of the beautiful desert landscape, and the music really enhances the mood. And during fight scenes, the music is intense and exciting, gets you really riled up for the fights :D So, stuff like that :)

Also--not an anime, but still worth mentioning--the OST to Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is up there, but only because the most venerable Nobuo Uematsu composed the songs. \(^^)/ Ain't nothin' like heavy metal + a full orchestra to get your blood pumping. I recommend anything by his band "The Black Mages" if you also liked this OST (^^)b

I've had the OST from Neon Genesis Evangelion for a while, and the music brings about more nostalgia than anything, but is very, very nice. Especially from the 2 OVAs. Komm Susser Todd is still among my favorites for it's... unique composition (it's like... gospel music genre, but talks about committing suicide? lol <3).

Another OST I've really liked and am going to download in the near future is from Full Metal Panic!/Fumoffu/The Second Raid.

There's a lot out there I haven't mentioned, but that just leaves room for you guys ^^ What are your favorites?

After I saw this I remembered the thread@BG in regards to the same thing. Tried to remember all the great mentions there, but there's so many it was easier to just dig up thread itself. lol I generally remember individual songs as I only nab the full soundtracks of things I REALLY like.

http://www.bluegartrls.com/forum/68747-favorite-anime-music.html

My friend Hal and I were just talking about Escaflowne's soundtrack last night. <3 So good!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOvPBau5MwM&feature=player_embedded

Gurren Lagaan of course! Kamina. D:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAlztMvvNkk&feature=player_embedded

FLCL is definitely a classic anime that more heavily involved the soundtrack than many I've seen. The music really set the tone and mood for it, and who doesn't love the Pillows? :D

For real. :D So many awesome songs. The intro to Bebop alone is enough to get most to watch the show. lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-TAxm00jOg&feature=player_embedded

Sax solo at the end isn't quite the same, but still awesome! So cute when she jumps out on stage and gets all crazy in her giant red coat. lol

Another Hal passed along to me. Haven't seen Wolf's Rain, but the music's good!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXnzHCjKIFc&fmt=

Hellsing! *spams your thread some more*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4DxBsMijGY&fmt=

Not all Kanno, but all good! For game's, I have a lot, but my consistent favorite is definitely Final Fantasy Tactics!

Hal has a lot of amazing stuff, but I'll leave that to them if they decide to post. D:

Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2054 Credits theme "Waiting for You", Robotech: Lynn Minmay, "To Be In Love". as mentioned before, Cowboy Bebop got good tracks, especially, "Walk in The Rain", Macross Plus, "Voices". FLCL, "Blues Drive Monster" & "One Life", I forgot a good bunch that may be missing from the lists, but those just jump to mind so far.

FLCL and Samurai Champloo are great soundtracks, and so is the one for Eureka 7. It's massive and mostly the ambient music by Naoki Sato [which is kinda meh] but the rest is pure awesome.

"One Life" is really good. That whole freaking soundtrack is awesome, and it's huuuge; 3 CDs. lol

Had everything as youtube code for the videos, but after listing so many it seemed spammy so I returned them to normal links. D: After searching around and finding this write-up, I was reminded of a few I completely forgot about, namely FMA and Outlaw Star. lol - http://music.ign.com/articles/708/708910p1.html

FMA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxc8YCcxgDA&fmt= - Singer has an awesome voice, really added a lot to the intro of FMA. ; Gotta love the guy trying to pull off the Slash classic with the cigarette. lol

Outlaw Star: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0N3L-pcGdc&fmt= - Again, added a lot plus this song just rocks. lol

Last Exile:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXjPHpvY3b0&fmt= - I liked Last Exile quite a bit and went as far as to swap the music for the San d'Oria zones with this lol

Geez Cai, talk about me while I'm not here why don't you XU

Umm. I don't watch a lot of Anime anymore but here are some of my favorites that have not already been listed:

I just like this because it's pretty unique. Don't see many "shounen" series with operatic openings. (plus I love the manga that goes with this anime... too bad the anime is kind of poopy)

Old school love :V (oh it kills me that Slayers is old school now)

Another one I like for the unique-ness of not being j-pop/j-rock

and lastly;

This series (ova and tv) has an amazing soundtrack.

Cai already listed my other favorites. Escaflowne, Wolf's Rain, Bebop I think.

I think my favorites are the Second Hameln Opening and Elfen Lied of the list. As individual songs they're great, but as intros accompanied by the animations they just really work well and bring you in. D:

From the BG thread there are a lot of good recommendations, but Gulkeeva in particular seems to have quite a list going lol

Forgot about 07-Ghost's opening. D: The actual intro to the song is so cool, yet it's totally gone after the first few seconds. For whatever reason it reminded me of this song despite not really sounding alike at all. bleep blorp computer noises!

Which reminds me of!

buhning fingaaru!
