I've been on both sides of this and generally I return the gil if they ask for it. Most of the time, they do not ask for it because 1) they don't care or 2) they can't find the character.
The first time someone overbid it was a JP and he bugged me for hours. Then his friend started bugging me, so I refunded it back to him.
The only person I never returned gil to was Hehe. He put up a Sha'ir Manteel for 2 M instead of the going rate 20 M. Everyone on Seraph and Bismarck knows this person has the expensive bazaar and liquidates everyone's supply and jacks up prices. Till this stay, I still don't know who's mule this is. All I know the person doesn't speak English well.
Ugh. I frequently wonder myself. Friggin' Hehe.

A.
Shiva was a garbage server, if you weren't on my friend list or linkshell, I didn't care about you. I also kept the money when they bought my single bynes for the price of 100. I typically spent the money right away on currency or something so if they came asking, I had nothing for them.
Figures why shiva is a garbage server.
Because that doesn't happen on other servers, right?
Only thing i know for sure is that the server im on, for sure will have at least one person that will never do that.

Well the first thing i would do is see who overbid my item and if i know them, torture them for a day. I would send the gil back though, gil is easy to make, rather than have someone crying for their gil back.
I once had a ls member catch a sleepy jp with 1.9 mil HMP's x19 in bazaar. The jp contacted me and asked if i could help him get his gil back from my member but he left ls rather than give the gil back. Think he ended up quiting cuz was stuck in social ls limbo.

Even if I didn't like you I'd still return your gil if you asked. Guess that's just me though, and a select few others.

If they don't send me a tell: A
If I think he is RMT: A
Else: /b/
If it's Slyshen, C. just because of this thread.

Time for Apple Story Time!
Long, long time ago, when I first got cooking to 100 and was trying to use it to make gil, I put a lot of Melon Pies +1 on the AH for gil. Log off, come back, see someone bid 480k instead of 48k for them. Logged right back off, came on, got no tell, so I just kept it.
Several years later (like 6-7):
Was on late one night, thinking of buying a HQ Light Staff. Was thinking about the price (600k) and ended up typing that price for a stack of Shihei. I never got the gil back.
Point is: It comes back to you if you keep it. Might not happen for a while, but it DOES come back. Wish I gave back that gil to this day, and after that happened, promised myself I would always try to again.
...Then again, the boyfriend lost 4 mil when his cat accidentally hopped on his keyboard and bid that for a stack of fire crystals and never got it back.
I think that's when he was done with the game, lol.

I would be done with the cat instead.

No.
It comes back for you if you're dumb, do not confuse this with something that isn't real.
Karma had no part in making you think about that 600k item, then placing a bid with that price on a completely different item.
You would have pulled this stupid stunt if you returned the gil, or didn't. And you wouldn't have gotten the gil back just the same. Karma, again, had no part in influencing the person to not return your gil, they kept it because they wanted to. It's as simple as that.
People should really stop confusing their stupidity with something that does not exist.
This may sound harsh, and I apologize, but it's the truth. There is nothing else that can be said except stupidity for what you did with that bid.

Well, you got your own opinion, and I got mine. I strongly believe in what goes around comes around, and it bites you in the *** eventually.
Did what I do was stupid? Yeah, not denying that, but it came back to bite me in the *** eventually.
This isn't and shouldn't be a question of beliefs, but just a personal story I thought I would share.

Bitching about loss of pixels is not Karma related. . . . . . . it's addiction related

Eh, I could be doing drugs instead.
We're all addicted to something In the end.. what seems worthless to one is valuable to another.
I was saddened by my stupidity, but moved on, learned to never do it again. That's about it.
And that's not even the worst of the stupid stuff I've done on that game, lol.
So, let's say you list some item on AH for 100k, and someone accidentally buys it for 1 million. What would you do?
A) Keep the money, that's their problem
B) Return the excess money
C) Give them some stuff you were going to sell of approximate value to the amount they over-payed
