Afania just derped harder than DerpDerpington here.

Tsurumaru has been wicked since it's release. That's well over a year.

Nahtirah hat/trousers, also since release.

I could list tons more.

Not to mention that part of the game is about gear progression, and not everything is meant to stay relevant.

Nothing about what prothescar said was subjective.

This argument has no logic. You/prothescar/draylo listed a few gear that lasted longer than 3 months, and claimed the game is "just the same" as 75, while ignoring the fact that there are other gears did not last longer than 3 months.

And this isn't "subjective".

But when I claimed a few gears didn't last longer than 3 months, and claimed the game is "different from 75", while ignoring the gears that lasted longer than 3 months, it's "subjective".

It's nothing but double standard. What I did was exactly the same as Draylo/Prothescar/you. If you can pick a few gears like brutal/suppa/tsurumaru and argue that gears last longer than 3 months I can pick a few gears and argue that gears didn't last longer than 3 months too.

And, if I said "gears didn't last longer than 3 months" it's a blanket statement targeting everyone, but if you say "gears last longer than 3 months" it's not a blanket statement targeting everything, some logic.

Whether the game is the same as 75 or not is totally subjective, IMO. When Draylo started the entire argument about the game being the same, it's already subjective and someone gonna disagree.

I stop FFXI like 1 year ago and i proly never back again - but i still miss it, especialy 75lvl times. Everyday I read forum, watching youtube etc etc. My english is not good so i hope u got what i want to tell about.
So... for me problem is grind. After abysea I got preaty nice sets of gear and weapons for my char, and imo abyssea was best what happend for FFXI ever. I got NNI stuff and all that crap - I was happy I can do events and have fun of items i work for preaty hard to get. Than comes time all items were on top for like 3 weeks - skirmishI, bayld/delve gear, craft weapons. Every new update U just /toss them all. It was annoying for me to spend hours doing stupid reives and delves to collect points, only to spent them for something i can have fun for short time. I made 1 month break - after I back I was not able to get invite for parties cos 1. there was not many shouts 2. my gear was out of date. Lucky ppl still need BRD and WHM - but it was not realy fun to play only these jobs. Now if I back I have to spent a lot of gils to get my char up to date, w/o it I got no invite for high tier BC or delve or w/e - to get gil I have to spent HOURS for doing boring events like dynamis or salvage or do fishing. And I'm almost 100% sure before i got my gear there be new one that makes it outdated. I have no pleasure in grinding stuff like that, killing roots or w/e else - its fun to visit old areas, mess around Sea, go to Zi'tah and listen to the music there - but its fun for a short time. Probably You can focus on doing mythic You always want to have. You can do it solo now - but it's doing same stuff every day for few hours w/o any emotions - old dynamis lvl75 runs give me more fun than Crystal dragon or VW on lvl99 - it was fun, not just kill mobs and watch how fast I can kill and if spot is free atm.

So ... You can try to play again, but Im afraid it works only if You looks for something to kill time and have no beter idea to do it

Their argument makes sense though, as there is plenty of gear that has remained relevant for long periods of time. Your's makes sense in a hyperbole, but think about it, how much gear comes out that never had a use? In that sense, it's no different than at 75 cap. Blanket statements or not, we've had a fair bit of gear stay relevant, and plenty of gear that died the second it was added.

The value of said gear that applies to each person is subjective, as to how often they use it, and for what purposes. Simply because "you" would toss or end up tossing it out after 1-3 months is completely blanketing the whole playerbase, simply because of "your" actions, and thought process.

Reforged AF and Relic 119, in many regards, if you actually know how to play/merit your job, is not going to be beaten very easily, as they still have applicable uses. As long as they have that applicable use, the value is well worth it.

Skirmish gear, NQ or HQ, still has a lot of uses, without the need to completely re-augment them. They make excellent PDT pieces, MDT pieces, Snapshot, DA in slots that otherwise wouldn't have them, and are incredibly easy to farm, and farm stones for. There are other augments on them that still make them top macro pieces.

This is my original statement:

Ragnarok.Afania said: »

Now: You toss gear every 1~3 months.

If you think this is a "Afania's experience only" statement that can't apply to other players, go ask your SAM, MNK DRK friends.

How many DRK got an Augmented Crobaci, then tossed it after 1 month when delve1 was out when he farmed a Bereaver with delve point farm pt, then tossed it again after 2~3 months when he bought a Senbaak.

How many SAM tossed their Ugisumaru, how many MNK tossed their Rigor? Personally I know many.

In fact, go ask all your friends and ppl you know, have they ever toss any SoA gear in past 1 year since SoA out.

If someone answered yes, then my statement of "You toss gears every 1~3 months" isn't a blanket statement that only apply to myself.

I never say anything about gear progression being good or bad, I only made a comment about how often the gear reset should be. And I never say anything about the time you spend to obtain them, I only pointed out the difference between SoA and pre-SoA, with a statement that already applied to many other people, no just me.

The fact is that most people probably already have the experience of tossing gear more than once in past 1 year since SoA came out, sometimes it happen within few months because of more frequent content update, but in 2008 it didn't happen as often.

That makes my original point stand, you do toss gears more often now and that makes it different. If you like current FFXI, it's up to you. But I still fail to see what's wrong with my original statement. I've seen enough Crobaci, Ugisumaru, Rigor and even Oat being tossed but I didn't see that many perdu weapon being tossed within 1 year in 2009.

If people didn't have the foresight to not dump millions into ilvl 110 plasm gear, then I'd consider it a lesson rather than some awful example of how often you toss gear.

Skirmish 113 augs aside (and really, that could of been predicted as well, it's just a shame that the 119s didn't really get that much of a boost stat wise), I can't really think of anything thus far that I've personally wasted tons of time/gil on. It was obvious from the day they added ilvls that anything less than 119 would more than likely be replaced. Any gil spent expanding on such gear was nothing short of a blatant risk, or the spender spent it more than willingly to, *gasp* be the best they could be at that time. Times change, gear changes. ***, we'll prolly going to hit another ***storm this next update with the TP changes, which were out of left field. How many x-hits will be effected negatively from it? Personally, I don't mind, the gear I upgraded to maintain my x-hit was well worth it for the time period I used it. Hopefully it sticks around, but if not, I'll move things around to get back to being an optimal set, just like every serious player in the history of MMOs has ever done.

I'll give you credit on the whole tossing Oats bit, it is sort of silly that a trash NM 119 weapon beats the Delve boss weapon, but whatever, it's Oats. ***was bandwagoned for a reason.

I think its just how you look at the game in its current state. I feel as though if some people like the grind and always wanna be on top, then the way the game going is perfect for them. As for the tossing of gear yes they update to new and better gear quite frequently but once again that just depends on if you want to get the newest gear or not.

Its just a grind to be the best character you can be. I never really complained and have kept up with all the new gear to date, and just the fact that I WANT the best h2h, or GS, kinda makes getting it that much better. That's just me though and my opinion on the situation. So I have to say that no the game isn't dead, you just have to figure out specifically what you like in this game and stick with it. For me its my linkshell mates, and staying on top of the jobs I have. For others it could be to get all of the relics or be the best BLU,SMN,DRK there is etc.

At the end of the day its still a game, and there are different strokes for different folks.

Well, this seems to be the trend of most MMO these days.
Most gear gets replaced by new/better almost every other content patch now, if XI wants to stay up there, they have hardly another choice than to join on that bandwagon.

To be on the topic of the topic:
Yes, the old FFXI is dead. It's buried and we've had several memorials and wakes.
But by the looks of it people will keep dredging it's poor corpse out for the sake of some misplaced nostalgia.

Personally, I welcome this new FFXI.
There are plenty of new things to do and a steady flow of newer content coming in.
As for the gear, yeah it's tossed aside easily, but it doesn't take 3 years of camping against bots, or farming Dynamis with 30+ people in a lag riddled zone and lotting against 7 other people that are after the same piece anymore either.

If you want something durable, make a R/E/M and 119 it, don't attach yourself to anything else.
You'll be replacing it in no time anyway, but hey, it's new content where you get it from.

I believe most MMO won't make you toss gear after 1 month though. Also it's kinda hard to predict when to toss gear in FFXI and when to invest your time/gil on them. You can invest your time/gil on a gear and ended up having to toss it next month, or choose not to invest your time/gil and wait, then that gear ended up last longer than expected.

Can you give me one concrete exampe of gear being tossed within a single month after obtaining it?

The step up delve weapons don't count, we knew pretty damn well from start that we'd be replacing them with the boss weapons once people figured out the boss mechanics.

I just said Augmented Crobaci(skirmish)---> Bereaver(delve 1). If I remember correctly it's out before delve 1 exist and who'd know it'd die after 1 month.

I'd argue Lak. Bottes +1----->Vanir Boots is the same, but some probably would disagree cuz Lak +1 has macc, just less AGI than Vanir.

There may be other examples, and if you expand the time range to 3~6 months there are a lot more gears being replaced. Personally I think the right range should be 1 year, 6 months is barely acceptable let alone 3 months.

progression.

if you want to keep up with the pro's you have to be agressing.

Or you can think of it this way. when leveling up, gear often changes every few levels, this just happened over a short time.

Aside from a really terrible troll or attempt to break boredom I dont really see the reason to complain about this. It gave everyone something to do for a little while. Now what do we have? Farm for Relics and Mythics, thats just about it. Nothing new to get that is worth getting.

That's because you get newer gears such as battle field/delve2 gears way too fast. There's something new every month, you got delve gears in March and some new gears in April/May, but obviously it doesn't last long enough cuz you can get them in days/weeks.

"Not getting anything new" isn't the main reason why you have nothing to do, "you get everything too fast" is.

I think gears taking 2~3 months to obtain and last 1 year is way better than gears taking 1 week to get and obsolete next month, from MMORPG and longevity's POV. Or else I can just play on and off, take a 3 months break and come back then grind the newest gears after 3 months. There are 0 incentive to stay subbed for months if you get gears fast and gears also obsolete fast.

You can't compare leveling a class with endgame raid gear though. Lving process isn't the goal, just the journey.

I totally get it if / when people move on to other things in their life and stop playing the game. Stuff happens, time pass's and sometimes you just don't get the enjoyment out of the game anymore. And that's ok, it's ok to move on and do other things with people's lives.

Here is what I don't get, why do people quit the game, or "fake quit" the game, then stay on the forums spreading negativity and fake drama about how they lost some great love of their life. For those of you doing that, how shallow and hollow must your lives be for you to derive some level of satisfaction from posting on forums of a game you have ceased to play? Yes the game changes, we all know that and it's perfectly fine for it to do so, that's life. If you don't like that change then it's ok to seek enjoyment elsewhere. Hanging around and posting about how much you hate a game, that your still putting time into, seeks rather hypocritical and pointless.

The journey is supposed to be half the fun. The trouble is, SE has done everything in its power to make leveling up a quick process so everyone can accelerate toward endgame. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough endgame to satisfy the masses.

I say, raise the level cap to 150, significantly raise the amount of xp required to level up, add new zones and battlefields of varying levels, and make it so Abyssea xp caps out at 99. Oh, and make it so level-sync only allows you to match players within 5 levels of yourself if you're level 99 or above. Reintroduce the level-grind that requires xp party dynamics. That'll give everyone something to do for a long while.

Sure, but this is an update of well over a year ago which took us all by surprise as it also completely wiped every single R/E/M from the map and the Delve weapons reigned for nearly a year after.
Again with the knowledge that R/E/M would take back its spot, although I am still of the opinion that Matsui took his sweet time on that one.

Quote:

In this case I'd debate a piece of gear being turned into a situational piece, as you say yourself it has not been replaced completely.
Besides, it gave you something else to do besides Delve, Delve and more Delve.

Quote:

You behave like your gear is completely outdated every single content patch and that have to start from scratch completely, but the samples you provide show the contrary.
It's bits and pieces that get alternatives and the stuff that gets replaced is not a big deal, it's not like, as per my earlier example, it took you several years to get it.

As for taking the time investment upgrading/augmenting the gear that's your choice.
But with a good linkshell even that is a matter of a few weeks at most, not even months.
It's nice to have something new to work towards every so often, and 3 to 6 months, as the realistic rotation looks at the moment is a fine timespan in my opinion.

But as others are also noting, it looks like you're using this as a point to vent your frustrations about the game, you aint enjoying it so perhaps it's time for you to move on.

I always had something to work on in 75 cap when everything took longer to obtain too, the only difference is that the goal is always different every month now and they no longer last long, v.s a longer and more satisfying goal pre-SoA. You like it, I don't, opinions. It's not like I forced my opinion on you and force you to hate the current system or anything.

It's easy to say "if you don't like it just don't play", by your logic we can never discuss anything about a game, or a movie. Because you're allowed to talk about it if you like it, if you don't like it you're supposed to shut up and not play.

That's not how life works when we talk about a game or a movie, unfortunately. This is "is ffxi dead" thread and someone turned it into another "how is FFXI now?"discussion, so expect negative opinions, they always co-exist with positive opinions. If you can't stand negative opinions don't read the thread or don't start a "how is FFXI now" discussion.

Whether I still play FFXI or not, is ultimately my choice. Maybe I'm not happy with the currently system but it's not bad enough to make me quit. Maybe I'm happy with current FFXI but I still choose to quit for whatever reason. It's not like I wrote a 10 page rant about FFXI, I only complained about short term goals, which I don't like, but maybe I still like every other aspect enough to stay and vice versa. Maybe I'd quit just because my Ninja gets no party invite.

I don't see a point to tell others to quit just because they choose to present negative opinions in a discussion though. May as well don't start the discussion at all if no negative opinion allowed.
