Is FFXI Dead?

The game still plays the same though, what is the issue with tossing older gear? I still use gear I got like years ago like Enif legs, Brutal earring, supa, Loquacious earring, etc. Did you wanna still be using the exact same gear all these years later? What is the point lol.

I have to agree with that. The days where everyone wore a Hauby/W.Turban weren't fun. The days when new gear would come out and we'd all collectively shrug at it because it was marginally worse than what we currently wore was terrible.

There was a long time where they just weren't releasing gear that beat the top choices at the time.

That being said if they ever want to reuse the Loki's Kaftan model I'd be a-okay with that. I guess that's where Cosmetic gear comes in.

I'm not saying you should wear 1 gear for 10 years, but I think it's reasonable to expect your raid gear to last 1 year, not 1 month.

There are a couple of pieces I had, which cost 3M to make, I also spent time and farmed other stuff to make it, and it died next month.

Inb4 3M isn't a lot of money, gil is gil.




I don't have an issue tossing brutal/suppa/loq, but I have an issue storing reforge 119 1 month after I got them.

What job are you storing Relic 119 for? Most relic 119s are useful for the augments on them if nothing else. Just interested in what job had absolutely no situational use for its relic 119s? I see on your profile you have Death Penalty. I would assume you don't mean you stored your useful relic 119 COR armor.

3m is nothing man and pretty much all of the Reforged Relic is still useful. The AF reforged is still useful too for most jobs depending on which set you need it for.

I said reforge 119, so it can mean AF but not relic.

So far I only use AF119 body actively. I really, really, rarely need to use head/hands/feet when I need macc. It's so rare that I don't think it's worth 3M and all the paper grind. Originally I made head/feet for /ra but then Umbani/vanir replaced it.

I can't really think of much reason to use legs unless I'm doing WF enmity- set too, which is completely unnecessary. Bayld gear replaced it too.


It's only nothing if the gear is good, it's something if you just toss it in the garbage can. If you really think 3M is nothing just toss 3Mx4 = 12M yourself see how you feel! Not everyone like to waste time/gil like that.




The point is that, originally when I grind certain gear I grind it for other use, not "situational use". And honestly what's so unreasonable to expect the highest tier raid gear last a bit longer than 1~3 months?

Because Pacman is totally the kind of game that needs renovated content and other people to play with.

Even Street Fighter II has more players within Japan alone than FFXI does worldwide. I'm nice, I picked a multiplayer game that is only alive because of a ranking system that makes it like a literal MMO in Japan.

(Time Played/Average Movie time)x Movie Ticket Cost - Cost of game.

Dark Souls II -
Game Price: 59.99
Time Played: 180 hours

(180/2)x7 - 59.99 = $570.01

Borderlands 2 -
Game Price: 59.99 (when I bought it)
DLC Total Price: 19.99 + 9.99x5 + 4.99 = 74.93
Time Played: 319 hours

(319/2)x7 - 59.99 - 74.93 = $981.58

FFXI over a long period of time is kinda hard to do. Since a lot of people bazaar which messes up play time by deluding it with afk time. Best measure for an MMO with these types of mechanics is shoot for non-afk time enjoyed per month. So pretty much if you play and enjoy at least 5/6 hours a month you are making an entertainment profit any less then that and the games value starts to decline.

Kinda' echoing/extrapolating upon what Byrth said, but I think the game itself is just as fun as it has always been, and the playability given to us by the Windower team and other unofficial developers has never been stronger. It could certainly use a great deal more bodies, though- all the more reason to return.

you can get movies from red box for $1.20 and watch them more than once, that's a horrible basis for comparison

That was just my opinion. Since normally I try to figure out if the game was worth it is near release so I compare it to seeing a movie as if it was also just released. It's really up to the buyer how they choose something is worth the money I was just giving an example with how I figure out a games worth.

How is it if you have no character anymore? If I started from scratch? How is the grind and stuff? It almost intrigues me to give it a go, just to play in the barren wasteland that I once loved. I have tried Star Wars, ESO, FFXIV (about to give this a second chance) and none of these have done it for me.

Quez is a horrible server. It's dead in GMT and on life support in NA, and my advice is to get off it.

Great from scratch so far. You can get NPCs to party with and no loss of exp. I've been playing for about a week now and just hit 50 this morning. Doing quests now. It's rather fun to enjoy the basic stuff without having to bash enter on cut scenes all the time.

Already got to rank 3, some op warps as I pass the areas, etc. It's very fun imo.

If I've learned anything is that. Song lyrics are everywhere if you look.

I really don't see the harm in asking about the state of the game before joining/rejoining. It's actually pretty smart. The fact that this sort of topic annoys the community says more about us than it does the person asking the question.
