Chi Blast question
Ok, to start, monk is a new 75 for me and I was looking to mess around with Chi Blast a little bit. From what I understand, mods are Mind and #of Boosts. Currently I have +50 mind for my build and with 11-12 boosts, connection lag varies, I do around 600 dmg. Is this normal? I have seen other monks do upwards of 1k dmg and was wondering if there were any other monks out there that could give me some pointers. Thanks for the input.

well my whm is only 32 so my base mnd is 66 then i have +71 mnd (i still could do better in rings and earring department) and then +10 from goblin mushpot so 66+71+10=147
Are you boosting with your AF gloves?

Edit: Since the magical damage resistance nerf a little while back, Chi Blast can get resisted if the mob you're fighting is being hit by elemental spells and weapon skills. Carbuncle.Littlevegeta

hmm i did not know of that sash, was thinking more of the one from gnole nm, will have to try and get the one in that item set, very sexy
well i did the lesser colibri right outside the gate, yea i know expected low dmg on thoes anyway, but then same results on spiders, then tried to pick my spirits up and picked on a bee outside port basty...573 dmg /fail, so i gave up XD
This was pre-Suzzy feet, pre-HQ MNK AF legs/head and I had only one BRD +MND song on me at the time I chi blasted. Trio'ing Genbu with a BRD and a RDM is fun stuff. Also /WHM here too. Edit: Still working on completing the rest of my +MND build. Like one of those belts that old Bart stated. And upping my earrings. =d Boost in AF gloves, 12 boosts is max u can get w/o random deal, or some stuff like that. General rule of thumb (not exact), mnd x10 for max chi dmg w/ x12 af gloves boosts.

If it is simply number of boosts that modifies it, what benefit is wearing AF gloves?
Bshizzle said: If it is simply number of boosts that modifies it, what benefit is wearing AF gloves? Do you really have to ask or are you unable to read? Temple Gloves They enhance boost. Boost and MND are the modifiers behind Chi Blast. So if you enhance one of the modifiers, what do you think will happen? You swap out AF hands when you actually chi blast though with MND+ hands. Devotee's Mitts +1 or the NQ if you can't afford/find HQ. OH SNAP! Been awhile since I've seen zekky pwn someone
AF gloves increase the amount of attack gained by boosting, ATTACK is not a modifier of Chi Blast only the NUMBER of boosts. So again I ask what benefit is it to use AF gloves when boosting for Chi Blast?
I am not saying there isn't one, I just want to know what it is because I use chi blast in sky. They boost Chi Blast by 5.5% as well. Not just the attack. Look at the wiki article for them.
I want to straggle you sometimes, Bshizzle, because every time you post a question about MNK and people help out with a straight forward answer, you make stupid, snarky remarks that clearly shows your experience with your MNK job. We didn't say attack was a modifier for chi blast. Boost is a modifier for attack and chi blast. Being that the AF hands modify BOOST, that means it would modify ATTACK and chi blast.
So I'm gonna quote myself from another post: Zekky said: Do you really have to ask or are you unable to read? Because it would appear you're unable to read or comprehend basic information that is given to you from us, from other threads or what is available on Wiki. Unfortunately I didn't have my KO or earrings on with me when I took this SS but dmg with 12 boosts and both MND songs from a BRD. Did this last night when helping a friend get zenith mitts.
Just for the love of Christ, please don't have a /p macro for your Boost.

You need 60 - 70 + MIND for HIT 1000 damage. And you need do all the boosts with AF Gloves. If you boost without AF gloves your damage will be "Too Weak" not sure where you're getting those numbers, only need 100 mnd to do about 1k dmg. I don't know which race has that low of mnd where you need +60 to hit 100 (aka 40 base) Zekky said: Unfortunately I didn't have my KO or earrings on with me when I took this SS but dmg with 12 boosts and both MND songs from a BRD. That number is completely irrelevant if that is the condition.
