HP & MP Updates from SE Forum

From Camate:

Greetings everyone,

Thank you for the suggestion. I've informed the development team that there are a lot of requests for a race change system.

In the meantime though, below is a comment from Producer Akihiko Matsui, which I think you will all be interested in reading.

We’ve been carefully looking into the individual characteristics of each of the five races, and based on the conditions of the current end-game content we have decided to perform the below adjustments:

Increase the HP of races other than Galka
Increase the MP of races other than Tarutaru

Each races HP and MP pool will still maintain the original hierarchy, but we will be increasing these stats to close the gap.

This adjustment is scheduled to be implemented in the March version update.

Seems minor, but the extra MP would be nice.

So this is admittedly a 10-minute fix in terms of adjusting a variable or three in the code, but was anyone actually clamoring for this? I didn't think that the gap between Galka and Tarutaru was meaningful given most HP increasing gear is a straight addition instead of a multiplier. I suppose it'll make Dominion Slash less of a problem for non-Galka, but I've heard enough about even Galka players getting smacked around by these silly overkill moves, so I am left to shrug indifferently.

I know people on my server and even in my linkshell that won't take taru mnks for AA's because they have lower HP.

I think this practice is probably becoming more common and this is SE's way to prevent the exclusion.

So, if Galkas have about 100 more HP (hypothetically, of course) than Tarus, then they will just increase it by 50? That still won't save the taru from getting their *** handed to them, that just adds one more hit before they are dead. And that hit usually comes from early in their death (it's usually the 1000+ move that kills them, not the one that does 75 per hit).

Come on SE, do something more useful, like Cait Sith!

Caits coming this month, HP/MP coming next month :x

But I do see this being different than you are expecting. I think the difference between taru and galka will probably be closer to 25-50 now instead of ~400-500.

Even as a hume this is very mcuh welcome, MP isn't so much of an issue but I find myself being reduced to red health on some attacks whereas a Galka counterpart will still be orange/yellow.

Cait and this are both scheduled for March, so Cait will come no sooner nor later either way it would seem, they have been fairly good with keeping their word on updates as of late in my opinion by compared to before at least so I see no issue with it personally.

To be fair, they did say this is what they are doing in the meantime, which to me sounds like they don't mind actually making it possible to change our race or face, it's just not something that is happening in March, and possibly later down the road.

They're not doing race changes. The reason for this HP/MP update is to appease those that are crying about their HP/MP being too low because of their race.

Honestly, I'm ok with this. As long as they don't narrow the gap incredibly.

I did notice a galka MNK compared to my MNK we had a difference in about 500 HP...
And I have 15 HP merits and he only had 7.
So narrowing it maybe +100 HP, an extra HP every level sounds fun.

MP Wise I fully support galkas getting more MP.
My SMN had 1400 MP and his only had like 800 MP.
And he had 8 MP merits and I have 0!
So if they maybe gave 200 more MP, narrow the gap to 1400-1000.

Being a Taru, I won't be taken off my MP Throne, and You other races get to throw off another cure or two!!

Might have read it wrong so you want your hp to go up to being 100 off his hp yet you want him to STILL have 400 LESS mp than what you do? Much sense made!

Opps i guess that is kind of confusing, Jir needs to stop posting stuff 15 minutes after Jir wakes up ._.
I mean to give other races 100 extra HP, because the HP Gap I feel like mainly shows when players are on Monks, more than any other job (especially since MNKs are so commonly used now)
That way the HP and MP are still highly different, just not as large.

Large MP pools are mostly meaningless at this point, though, as MP recovery is the crux of any setup. WHM gets nearly free cures, SMN has 0 perp cost, BLM casts 22MP nukes, and everyone has 6+ MP/tick in gear alone, plus access to refresh and usually a ballad or 2. HP pools are far more important, so trading the utility advantage that a race like Elvaan or Galka brings to the table in exchange for nearly useless extra MP seems pretty crappy IMO. What's the point of having races if they're all the same? Let people change races once per account or on a cooldown like transfers, keep the differences between races, add race as a vanity option. Or, if you're inclined, use plastic surgeon.

Well on my elvaan smn I run out of mp towards the end of SP2 would mp help yes.... on pld I have 500 mp more mp would mean more cures/spells. While on the subject of smn Alexander needs at least 1200mp for the 30 duration before smn skill is taken into account.

In a party setup, I agree.

Solo setup, I can find myself running out of MP while soloing Salvage II on BLU if I don't limit my spells towards the end (or limit them at the beginning and nuke away at the end).

Ochain PLD should have no issues with MP, and you're not tanking anything worthwhile without Ochain.

And it's called MP burn for a reason, if you're not running out, you're doing it wrong.

BLU/anything should basically never have MP issues. You're losing DPS by casting most of the time, and if you're taking enough dmg that you're running out of MP on cures, you have the wrong sub/traits/gearsets or you're on the wrong job.

And having more MP just means you'd cast more and run out anyway.
