So I used to have an Nvidia GTX550 and about 2 months ago now I have since installed a brand new HD Radeon 7950. When I installed the new Video card I wiped the SSD and reinstalled windows so everything was fresh. In the last month I've experience this white screen of death 3 times, with the 3rd being 5 minutes ago. I didn't even know this kind of PC freeze existed until now. Screen turns completely white and loops the last portion of the sound that was playing very quickly so it sounds kind of like buzzing. Anyone else ever experience this kind of 'screen of death'? Not really sure what to do about it although through short google sessions it seems to be an operating system issue. Should I repair my Windows 7 installation, wipe the drive and install fresh again, or any other suggestions?

I will assume you already made sure all drivers are up to date with the new card.

Do you still have the old vid card? I would try throwing that in for a bit and see how things go with it since it sounds like the only thing you changed was that.

Without googling white screens that is what I would do in your shoes.

I would reinstall Windows and go from there.

Might not be a bad idea to do a mem-test. I had a bad ram chip locking me up for months one time.

Sounds like hardware fault. I would suspect the brand new video card.

Sound loops because the sound card has a "ring buffer" for playing audio. Since the CPU crashed, probably due to the graphics driver crapping out from the card malfunctioning (ATI/AMD stuff tries to reset the graphics card so it will certainly attempt to recover at least once) you get that sound repeating until you reset as the CPU won't update the soundcard buffer.

I had cases where the graphics card crashed and the PC kept processing for a while with the monitor going completely blank. That on Nvidia hardware.

I'd suggest you remove the ATI Catalist software completely and put back the former graphics card (I am assuming you didn't trade or sell it yet) to test the computer. If you can do that and the computer stops having issues, then you found the culprit.
