That might be the issue... FFXIV has serious security flaws and lack of validations. It is highly possible that weak security (actually the lack there of) with respect to 14 is the issue.


Edit: But this would only be the case if every person who has been deleted also has a FFXIV account tied to their SE management/pol account.

I suspect that it is more than likely what Byrth is saying since the issue with FFXIV seems to be isolated in that it can not be used to affect other client users.

Exactly, since I've seen first hand where even players WITH tokens in that game are getting hijacked for days on end or longer by RMT to shout / tell spam their services.

Regardless, hopefully SE resolves it quickly for you, and the others it seems to be afflicting. Sounds like SE's legendary spaghetti coding is catching up with them.

even when i got hacked back in May, whoever did it left the SE account alone, only deleted the chars when they we're done. and was also an isolated incident, as i only know of a few ppl from my LS who we're hacked.

had token too, so watch out for keyloggers.

Assuming there's random character deletion going on, we're going to underestimate the rate of it by about a factor of 10 because we aren't counting all the other characters. It might be much more common than we think.



Ryan, does your POL Account still work?
The point was that Leilow's character isn't deleted nor transferred. All others are, though.

Did you notice that it's not just one server it's happened on?
I'm Zaxtiss' sister. There is a XIV account attached to the SE account, but it was only ever for the beta, not since it's been fully launched. So it's never been used to actually log into XIV.
I hope we can get this straightened out!
Oh, and I'm not sure it means anything but only the 3 characters that were currently active were deleted. There was one that was inactive, that is still there.

Definitely needs to be reported to their support center so that they can investigate the issue. At least, the characters can be restored completely, so it's not too bad, just have to wait it out.

I paid for catlord then cancelled because I was curious. So I ran around ceizak and morimar basalt fields. Went to the AH and was messing around and game froze. Went to log back in , password was wrong. Went to SE account management page and didn't work. I kept getting you have no network and it wouldn't let me connect to the site. So I got suspicious and did a system restore and then reset SE account password. Got in and all the characters on Catlord now say just character and no security token is registered. Not sure any of this actually helps any of you that still play and had this happen to you. I'll go through the SE customer support and see what they say. Figure any information can help out at this point for you.

Last thing I did was buy an umbril ooze off the AH. Wonder if they can look from that point and tell me what happened. If the character data just vanishes after that then pretty clear it's SE's issue. If they can see my character running around , entering MH and then deleting itself or something crazy then pretty clear would be hackers. From time I froze til time I was able to reset password was probably about 20 minutes. I had two service accounts on the SE account and all of the characters on them now just say character. So I have no idea. If I get any answer from SE I'll pass it on.

The same-ish thing happened to me some time last year. My password was changed and any active characters on the account were deleted. I ended up giving up on phone support and tried online chat support; they got me the password back and restored my characters, but mostly everything that was worth anything (which wasn't much) was gone. The rollback only took about a week to get everything back.

Assuming the same thing happened to you, I doubt the experience will be terribly painful.

If it helps I'm number 11 in the online chat queue , but it moves pretty damn slow. I'm really curious now as to what's happening to characters so I hope I get ahold of someone competent.

When you go through the SE account management page > Square Enix Support Center > Contact > start filling out all the crapola , then you get to choose email or chat support at the end.

Its the pathing you are using...

Let me help you out:

When you select support for FFXI.

1.Select the "Contact US" button.

2. Select Get Support.

3.On the first drop down select "Technical Support"

4.On the second drop down select "Other"

5.Fill out whatever you want for the title but probably best to give brief sentence describing your issue.

6.When you get to the next screen "chat support" will be an available option below email.

For some reason chat support isn't available for the other options on the first drop down.
