If anyone remembers those (or even new about them.) The mega memory card for gameboy. For games that actually had save files, you could backup that save onto the card. Then restore that file to the cartridge any other time as long as they were compatible.

I find that one of my files is not working properly and I'm not quite sure why. The original game works fine, and its save is fine. It was backed up onto the card several months ago. When i went to restore it last night to a compatible cartridge, it would not restore. In fact it would erase anything that was on the cartridge.

If I load a different file to the cartridge, it works fine. Just not that one. So i deleted the save on the MMC, and got the original out and backed it up again. But the same issue happened when i tried to put it on a different cartridge.

Both cartridges (the original file, and the one I'm trying to restore to) work fine on there own. Both batteries are still working. And the same file is compatible. (Same game, same version, same everything.)

I'm doubting most ppl will have many suggestions. I couldn't find very much about anything searching online. But i figured id ask none the less.

So far its looking like that file is just corrupted or something. Even tho the original works fine. It would be a shame to lose that file tho.

I have one of those lol... great for pokemon.

Pretty much sounds like you're boned, sounds like it's a different version of the same game, software patch wise. What game is it?

If both carts have the same game, it's possible they're of different revisions ( game program version is higher on one of them and save file specs changed). Newer cart deems older save as corrupt. Older game deems save from newer cart as corrupt.

That does happen, trust me.

the first cartridge was finished long ago, full 151. the completionist in me does not want to lose it. Thats why i backed it up. But the back up is useless if i cant use it.

Research the game in particular (Pokemon was it ?)

Not only there's many versions of these (pokemon) games under the same exact "color" but also these (pokemon) games have lots of protections/detections against devices such as the one you put a picture on the original post. So it's possible that you're either having problems with version or you're tripping a protection on the game program. Whatever comes first.

As Mr. Tentacle Grape suggests, try playing it legit and you should have no problems. ;)

I just meant back it up and play on the original cart, since it apparently has no issues loading the file back. it seems you have a different software revision.

that thing glitches now and again as well, and those games and that thing's batteries are probably dying, they're old.

Fortunately that thing even feels cheap, could probably easily replace the battery.

backing up the complete file and replaying would be a waste. If i cant restore it, then the file could be lost forever if i ever restarted on it.

The different versions i can accept. I have a Red cartridge that is backed up and will restore on to my 2nd blue cartridge. Just not the 1st completed blue cart. The batteries appear to be fine. All the games i save save and reload and work fine. And the MMC has only been used a handful of times, and still works fine with other files.

I was considering doing a new file on the second blue cart just to grab all 50 tms and back up just for the hell of it. Afterwords, I could finish the 151 on that as well. Try backing that up and see what happens. - If they only can restore to there own cart then its probably a version issue. Or if the original cant restore to anything, then maybe its just a problem with that cart.

what sux is, i think i remember restoring the original blue cart to the second one when i first got the MMC just to test it, and it worked. But i don't remember clearly enough to know if that is true..

finally finished the second blue cartridge and backed it up. And the new file is restoring to both the original blue cartridge and the second one. The original file wont restore to either. So i guess the file got corrupted somehow or another. It worked a few times, but no longer does now.

i was bored and i had the originals from when i was younger. If i wanted leaf or fire id have to go buy them. And if i was going to buy a new game, there are several that would be ahead of either of those' - i also wanted to no why the MMC wasnt working right

Pop the two carts open and see if there is a difference with the boards. Usually there's some indication of revision. Unbeknownst to most, there's usually several revisions in the mfg process, especially with a game like Pokemon that was on shelves for years. As said before, it's most likely a revision difference between the two carts.
