Can't get Logitech F310 to work in FFXI

Can anyone offer me any help here? I can get the controller to work in POL but not in FFXI itself. It doesn't even work in the FFXI gamepad config. I've been looking around for advice for days now and can't find anything specific that could answer why the gamepad doesn't work in FFXI.

top right corner of gamepad settings menu, you have enable gamepad checked correct? did you also try "test gamepad" and get any results?

On the back of the controller there is a slide button thing. Switch it from the "X" to the "D". that should make it work.

I have been using the same gamepad for years. Usually they break after about 6 months but they are relatively cheap and feel pretty good when they are working. I have also used the wireless one the 435 or something like that. Both work well for FFXI, the only issue I've ever had with them working is I believe on XP I had to install the logitech drivers and software if it didn't do it on its own... anyway

Yes it's enabled, pad was set to X but even when I switched it to D nothing happened when I tested it in the config.

It's not the controller that's broken because it works perfectly in FFXIV and it works in POL, but not FFXI.

As long as the option "enable gamepad" in the FFXI config menu is turned on, it should be working.

Maybe try downloading the latest drivers from the Logitech website?

Other than that, I have no clue.

Additionally, there's a button marked "mode" with a light beside it. You don't want that light to be on, for some reason. At least on mine, it doesn't work if it's illuminated.

If you have other controllers you use with your system, FFXI tends to do a "first in ignore the rest" thing - ie; on my system, if I turn on my xbox controller (on a pc), and then plug in my logitech, XI will only accept input from the xbox controller. It won't switch either if the xbox controller is disconnected.

Also, in the Control Panel > Game Controllers, select the logitech control pad and choose "advanced" - it should be set as the "preferred device you want to use with older programs".

Last - this latest update occasionally causes an odd bug for me whereby XI only accepts controller input if its window has focus, whereas most of the time I can control the game from the controller while typing in another window. Well within the realm of possibility that this is some random bug that might be 'worse' on other people's systems.

I don't have that option in Control Panel.

It's possible it's recognised my G-14 compatible mouse as a controller, I've no idea how to force FFXI to ignore it.

I know it's been said: but it needs to be on "D" for it to work.

FFXI is based on directx 8.1 (I think, maybe 8) and x-input support wasn't added until 9.0

that being said, check it in the gamepad settings menu

then:

make sure gamepad is enabled in FFXI config for your language

then configure it in the same config.

can ignore POL config for gamepad.

that's about it, pretty simple, as other options aren't as such.

I'd avoid the bloatware, the controller should be pluginplay, shouldn't need additional drivers.

I have DirectX 11.

Pad is in D mode.

I have the most recent drivers installed.

FFXI gamepad configuration does not sense it, not in EU or US configuration, only POL configuration senses it (and FFXIV and every other game I have that uses gamepads senses it.)

Either FFXI doesn't support the model (which would be odd since POL does) or it's registered the mouse as a gamepad and has fixated itself on that as being the default gamepad. It's a Belkin n52te mouse with 14 additional buttons for macros. Is there a way to tell FFXI to stop using that since I suspect that is why the FFXI config won't register the F310 gamepad?

in the profiler software, click on create a game profile, on that screen you should have a pic of the controller at the bottom. Click on the browse button, and find your FFXI (shortcut)logo/icon (i would move it to your desktop)and click on that, the FFXI logo should now appear next to your controller...problem fixed.

I have this same controller, its a *** to figure out sometimes.

Plug in play drivers are what you should be using.

don't use the bloatware.

your directx version is kind of irrelevant (well it is relevant, but if you had issues with that, you wouldn't be playing the game at all).

I have an F310, have had several and it works fine.

I have one right here beside me in fact.

There is a way to flush the default gamepad, but I don't recall how, we'd have to get Leo/Mariane up in here.

You should be using the config of the pol viewer you're using.

aka use the nation you're in.

I looked up an old post:

remove your fancy mouse from device master, uninstall it and the drivers, uninstall the bloatware for the controller.

reboot.

plug controller back in (without mouse).

let it plugnplay

go to gamepad config, then ffxi config for your eu.

It finally works! Unplugged every USB device, went through device manager and uninstalled everything, rebooted, plugged the important devices back in, and FFXI config suddenly started to recognise the pad! My god, had I known it was that easy I would've done that ages ago. Can't believe it thought a stupid G-12 mouse was a controller...

However now I got a new problem. FFXI recognises the pad, POL no longer does! >< lol well I guess I can live without it for now in POL.

LOL

Just repeat the setup process (for POL only since FFXI is now working) as the system has the gamepad as a new device ID and your POL install is still expecting input from the old device ID which no longer exists.

Really set up pads should not be so hard. Glad they learned and now FFXIV is easy to setup.

It should've worked for POL too as all I did was uninstall all the device drivers and reinstall them again.

Anyways after all that messing about it turned out I had to reinstall FFXI because XI-Util had locked POL into launching via sandboxes and wouldn't let me undo them. Hey presto, gamepad works in both POL and FFXI. Meh.
