so my friend wanted to get his account going agan to give FFXIV a shot. he discovered his security token is no longer giving him the right numbers. we checked several times. its not working. so he wanted to remove the thing and get the smart phone app in its place.

and with SE's lackluster support being bombed by angry FFXIV players, an next to impossible to get a hold of company just got impossible.

he found out that it can be removed without even logging in. something about a removal password. does anyone know how to get a hold of this? i thought maybe the serial number would work. it dosn't

It's on the front page of your se account, which you need the token to log in to. If you didn't have it written down before, I think you're SoL, sorry.

Sorry, I'm not being intentionally daft, but I cannot seem to find this emergency token removal password.

Luckily I haven't needed it yet, but I'm getting paranoid now as my token gets older and older.

Where can I find this? Every piece of information says "you have to login and it's on the front page of your SE account."

But mine is not on the front page, and I cannot seem to find it.

I have the Registration Status: with the Security Token registered and its serial number.

But no emergency removal password.

Can someone lay out exactly where it is? I cannot find it, to save my (character's) life.

I'm not entirely sure a physical token has one? Looking on the page it makes references to phone stuff only.

Edit: Just occured to me look at my mules account that uses a normal token. There's no emergency removal password for it. Must be a phone app only thing :/

Things may have changed with the addition of software tokens, but when I lost my physical token I had to actually call them to have it removed, there was no automated option.

OK Thanks for the update Calipso and Jassik.

Looks like I'll only have to cross that bridge if necessary. I'm not messing with SE support without absolutely needing to.

That link appears to be for the Software token specifically.

It's far from the first time, but I sympathize.

I have the same issue. Lost the keychain. Then 14 logged me out. Said I need to verify my account. I change password many times. But as it was Friday, I have to wait to Monday when they open to call.

First time it has happened to me. And it also states on their website if you have a token they won't ever bother you. So they lie.

NOPE labor day. not open until Tuesday. than chances are there still being hammered by FFXIV people ranting about errors etc. best chances are probably going to not be until Thursday or Friday... (after the alleged FFXIV server fix/increase)

OMG thanks for telling me that. I am waitng up to call them, but since in Asia I forgot about that holiday.

At the very least they owe me a refund for digital copy. As that copy is a 30 day subscription plus a 10 dollar credit that can't even be used after they pulled the stunt five days after buying it.

I lost my security token a while back and didn't have the emergency password or whatever they call it. I just logged into the online chat help from the SE account management page, and it was a quick and easy process. They asked a few questions to verify my identity and then unlinked my token from my account. I was able to login right away. The phone help thing always has a horrendous wait time. I'd highly suggest the chat support.
