V1.0 -> ARR Client / DL Question (Beta)

I purchased the original collectors edition to v1.0 about 2 years ago or so, while they game was f2p just to see how it was.

Reinstalled it today only for it to tell me that the servers have been closed and the game is no longer operating. I run around and find the beta client, which is currently down for maintenance.

My question is will I have to buy another disc set / direct download to be able to play XIV:ARR when it comes out on the 27th?

My opinion is FTS, I paid for the original copy I should get ARR for free and only have to pay the subscription fees.

Any information including links/citations would be greatly appreciated...

Your opinion is correct, you don't have to rebuy the game, and you should only need that open beta client you have (they said it will work as launch client)

the only caveat is that; there is a 3day early access for people who preorder the game, so the game launches on the 27th, people who preorder will be able to start playing on the 24th.

Well thanks man I was kinda getting right irritated. And I'm A-Ok waiting 3 extra days as long as I can start back to playing without having to buy a new copy of a game I already owned.

I don't even mind if they delete my old character and I have to start fresh, I just want to try out the "new" version of XIV.

If you go to your SE Account you will notice that the service account is still there. When the time is right, you should receive information on how to obtain the new client. While I don't know how it will work I suspect the "old" service account will automatically convert to the new service once it goes live. They have a 120MB download which installs the game updater, whose download link will be given to you.

That updater will then download and install the rest of the game data for you.

If you achieved legacy status in v1 you also get early access

Legacy status requirements are stupid, imo. Ok, I don't care about a mount. I had the chance to sign in to get it, and chose not to. I didn't realize that 'legacy' would not include anyone who didn't play after the free period was over. I thought that since I purchased the original game (collector's edition at that), I would receive the legacy status.

I was pretty surprised a couple months ago when I couldn't do something because I didn't qualify for legacy status.


Yes, at least they did what they should have by not making us purchase the game over.

I'm confused on the whole legacy account thing... I paid for a couple months after they started charging for 1.0 but I don't know if I paid for enough months... I don't have the "legacy status" icon on my account but my beta characters have been on legacy servers and I have the legacy tatoo thing.

Second question, I got placed on Gugnir, is this a JP server? Excal seems to be the main NA server... Is there anything I can do besides wait the allotted weeks/months before I can transfer?

There was an option to do a server transfer but the time to opt in for that has passed.

There will be server transfer after launch, but likely for a fee.

Your likely looking at a difference in 90 MS pings. Which is bad but not game breaking, I made a character on JP server in test because my hubby got hit with 3102 error and the leg was almost no different. But if your fighting over a mob you would notice it.

wouldnt it be the same lag for NA/EU as it is in FFXI? i mean isnt that why they have separate servers in ffxiv?

I'm just bummed about the potential of not finding a decent mid-level LS for a while. I'll eventually move to an NA server.

This annoyed me as well. I played for a good 4(?) months at launch and was there from Day 1 with my CE. They dumped me on a JP Legacy server when the merge happened. No legacy status. It's kind of a kick in the teeth to people that padded their servers when the game was at its very worst, but whatever. I can "deal with it" but the way they handled it was honestly kind of a shitty money-grab masquerading as a "thanks for the early support" gesture. I would have paid my $13 on day 1 if it wasn't free. It wasn't my choice to make the game so bad that even SE couldn't in good conscience charge money for it. But whatever.

Anybody get any info on the bolded part yet? I am another person who ONLY has the 1.0 CE and no Legacy, and did not participate in Beta. I assume I'm getting the 2.0 game for free but have no clue where to DL anything. Is it all done just through the regular client when I open the app? I suppose emails will be sent.

Yes Gungnir is a JP regional server, SE will be allowing server transfers 2-3 weeks after launch. They haven't announced a fee and have said that Legacy players will more than likely not be allowed to transfer to New Character servers for a few months (although they the time frame is still being discussed) List of Legacy regional servers here.

From what I gather, the phase 4 client will work as the launcher for the game itself. So on the 27th, you should be able to download the updated version and go from there. I think someone mentioned it in this thread.

Here is the link for the client download, it is about 128MB. After installation it will start downloading the patch which is 7.5 or more GB.
