You think that's weird? My first choco was grown by my mule whereas, after I got the whistle I realized I couldn't afford to keep feeding him since it was just a mule and I was a noob so I stopped visiting him.
I felt sooooo bad... I still don't want to go check in on him with my mule. I'm afraid I'll find a stack of bones with a chain tied around its next. ; ;

It can be a pain, visit it every day for more than a month. But then you get a cool coloured chocobo you can use in many places.
The biggest use I have for them is OP Warping then riding my chocobo to camp or whatever.
Like getting to Kazham, op warp, choco to kazham. Very quick, easy and absolutely safe to do at level 20+. Or taking Li'Telor OP and choco'ing to the Tree or Ro'Maeve.
They are also very usefull to be able to travel an area quickly and not get aggro.
