I was talking more like, a status symbol like Scragg/Jaerik's red name and line, and Aly's green. Normal people can get similar things based on their posts or how highly their posts are rated, but it wouldn't be a different line color, just a fancy-colored Linkpearl.
That, or you can give all of the long-time FFXIAH Linkshell posters a pearl, like as if it was a real linkshell.
like Hase said, those of us who've been posting since the whole Asian Invasion Pinoy thread should get colors. But, we've been doing fine without colors, then Scrotum goes pink and everyone goes batshit.

I haven't coded in a while, but really if he organized it so that there was simply a row in an SQL table (I think that's the right term, it's been so damn long) to have a number representing a user group, all he'd have to do is add one line of coding every color.
Something to the effect of, "Where $user['group']=1, $color=(I don't recall the hex for red)" and so on.

But yeah, pretty much. I would personally use names, ie. "admin", rather than 1. Because in a table, 1-10 looks hella confusing, whereas names don't.

When I was younger (yeah, because we all know that 13 is so long ago for a 17 year old >_> I feel old when I think of this stuff) I was coding my own forum from scratch. I had the sort of mind back then for keeping track of numbers like crazy. I was extremely organized in my head to the point that it was easier for me to use the numbers for groups based on priorities.

I was a child of the internet. I was basically attempted to recreate GameFAQS from scratch (not the content, just their amazing forums for the time). There was a Web Design and Programming Board there and it was basically the end project for all of us. After some of the earliest blogs, we all ended up recreating GameFAQS forums just as a sort of trial by fire.
