Herpes simplex 1.
And I might be getting fired.
And I might be getting fired.
My initial thought, inappropriate as it may be, is to ask if these two points are somehow related?

Bismarck.Magnuss said: » Herpes simplex 1. And I might be getting fired. No, they're not related. The first one was from me taking an STD test as per request of the girl I've been dating, and I just got the news.
The second one came from my mentor at work. Apparently they're inches away from giving me an improvement plan, which would marr my permanent record for any other teaching job in the future. I can choose to not sign the plan, but then I basically am destroying my chance at working there, again. I need a drink. Bismarck.Magnuss said: » improvement plan What's this? At least it's not simplex 2.
Either way a drink does seem in order. Bismarck.Magnuss said: » I just got the news. well on the bright side almost everyone has been exposed to HSV-1 at one time or another in their lives, it's not a big deal. on the job front, it sounds to me like that school is more problematic than you are, but I'm just going off of information you give me, so there is some inherent bias. Basically, if I want to renew my contract with them, I have to sign their plan and take their specific instructions to improve things in my class. If I don't sign it, there is zero chance of me being renewed next year.
Someone hand Mil's Shnaquila bottle to Mag!

Also, the reason the herpes is such a big deal is because the girl I'm dating has an autoimmune virus (not AIDS/HIV, but I'd prefer not to disclose which one) and basically if she contracts it, it has a chance of killing her. H1 isn't so bad amongst normal people (apparently 1 in 4 have it), but I don't want to be life threatening to the girl I'm seeing. and if he does sign it he will have to jump through more hoops than a circus wiener dog with a clown hat on...
that sucks man, sorry to hear. I think Mil called it, booze is definitely in order.
Here I go again, whipping the thread into a frenzy over my shitty life problems. I'm sorry, guys. I guess I just needed a venue to vent my stress.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program. If what you were saying before was true about the shitass way this place is run, then you're probably better off working elsewhere, even if it means out of the field while you look for something better? That's my feeling on it anyhow. At least you're seeing someone, even if you can never touch her. Gotta look on the bright side!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program. None of this madness. We care, we'll get worked up over whatever we goddamn please, and today it's gonna be our favorite teacher. So sit down, shut up, and feel the damned frenzied love. Bismarck.Magnuss said: » Basically, if I want to renew my contract with them, I have to sign their plan and take their specific instructions to improve things in my class. If I don't sign it, there is zero chance of me being renewed next year. People generally have an improvement plan of *some* kind, even if it is something informal like "Get a degree or certificate", how else is it expected that you improve? *edit* I mean, considering your mentor is at the same facility which you have low opinions of, how sure are you of his validity as a mentor? not to make fun of your situation mag. but it reminds me of rogue from xmen.
i admire your dedication and thoughtfulness in your particular circumstance If he signs the improvement plan and it's recorded, it's an admission of "I need improvement because I am not up to par for this job", while if he's not renewed he can claim budget cuts, first round teacher is lowest rank, not a good fit, decided to pursue more challenging efforts, etc.
It's a lot easier to avoid a hole than dig out of one. That being said, vent away bro. Bahamut.Milamber said: » Why will signing an improvement plan be a detriment to your career? Because people in the United States are *** to teachers and already think of many of them as lazy and terrible no matter what. if one has a history of "needing improvement" it's generally going to be a big hump to get over being seen as "bad" in an already poorly-viewed field. Cue Flav swooping in to tell me teachers get too much credit. You are too good of a person to deserve this ***. On the bright side, the school hasn't given you that improvement plan just yet so it may never even happen. Plus I'm sure your mentor could put in a good word for you in another district. I assume you want to stay at least semi local? *starts seeing if nearby schools are seeking teachers anyway* Just read back and...damn. I'm at a loss for words.
