I really don't understand the bidding system sometimes. It's so obvious when people are fudging numbers to win a bid! They really need to start taking the average of all bids and go with the median, IMO. Low bids that win usually either A.) always end up doing the shoddiest work or B.) end up costing just as much as the average budget set forth in the bid cycle or more or C.) combination of B and the projected time is ***canned! I think we may have had this discussion before, but this always drives me NUTS! Did I tell you about the time this one GC had the balls to call other GCs on a bid day to get their numbers!?! Cajones! yeah, it's a little crazy. let's set up a system, then do everything we can to circumvent said system. sounds asinine, no? yea we've had the conversation to varying degrees, but it really is a problem issue that no on wants to adress. I think the architect *cough cough* should help the owners make a more informed decision, IE: "O ya these guys are 15k low, but they'll change order you to death, whereas good ole' mosin's number is what he'll finish the project for." ect. ect. Generally the owner doesn't know his *** from his elbow, & a little knowledge from the design team could go a long way to helping these poor fools get thier money's worth.

This is what we should do...We should totally bring back mafia monopolies on construction a la 1930's to 1960's! The question is, which AHers are going to get buried under a stadium? LOL! I recently read an article on why we should all be grilling chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts, but I forgot where I read it. I found this trying to find it though, has some yummy-looking stuff on it!
