New weapons question

Seeing as most the weapons lost their +30-40 atk + 30-40 acc for a skill 65-170.
What is the difference in acc and dmg with this? Is this new way going to mean more dmg or will we have to eat sushi again?
Also some weaponps like soothslayer staff went from +53 MAB to 20 or so. But did add + magic dmg. Is this a major nerf?
Guessing for some magic weapon skills this will be a big nerf like Sblade and such.
Thanks

I dont think its 1:1 Ratio on acc:skill otherwise you wouldnt even need to use any acc gear

Should be the same as older +Skill items(just not shown in menu) with 1 Skill = 1 Attack and .9 Acc(Past 200 skill I think, which these weapons pretty much have on them).
Can't see any reason why these would be any different, but it's possible I guess.

I think this is the point, actually. Look how many pieces of gear in this update are void of accuracy.

Thanks but what about the MAB and magic dmg.
My god they totally trashed the Bokwas gear set. Going from 53 MAB to 13, on body. Other pieces are worse. Wow, I feel so sad for my sch, and all the ailxers I used.
Staves like soothslayers delve staves seem worse off then 99 MoT and the 51 HQ element staff. So strage.

Well you'll prolly still need acc gear (or madrigals) for new content, until you get the weapon from said content. Part of that vertical approach to gear.
Edit: I'm not sure I like that approach either, putting 90% of your acc in your skill and what weapons you hold forces you to upgrade.
As for the MAB VS Magic Dmg thing I'm not sure, especially if the cap Sylow said (D/4 iirc) is right it doesn't make much sense to me.

I get so tired of the "i don't want vertical gear" crowd. FFXI has been stagnant for too long because of these people. EVERY other mmo has expansions where new gear obsoletes old gear, and where there is no best weapon that you keep for 10+ years. You know what? No one in any other mmo complains when their top weapon from one expansion is replaced by a new top weapon the next expansion.
Without vertical growth, you are forcing people to do 11 year old content that isn't balanced for today (super easy now, but huge time sink).

Yeah... people complain all over the place when their stuff they spend weeks/months raiding for gets outdated, usually by new easy to get stuff via quest/drop/npc that doesn't even require a small boss fight.

For the record I didn't say it was all bad, just that this is one part of it. They didn't have to remove accuracy from pieces of gear that had it, and not add any to new pieces, forcing skill+ to be the dominant way to obtain addition accuracy especially in situations where dropping into lower meva/def/etc gear is a detriment.

Has anyone else played around with skill on dual wield? Just wondering because while I can easily see that equipping it offhand doesn't give any attack or parry skill; but it seems like skill also works independently for main and offhand...
Meaning I tried using new updated skill weapon in main hand and one with no skill offhand and the accuracy difference seemed like night and day to me, I was hitting a lot more with main hand and whiffing a lot offhand...
SE is so worried about dual wield breaking the game or something they seem to kill it every time the do something :\

Unless they changed it some time ago, I thought after 200 Skill, 1Skill = 0.9 Acc and 1ATK. It seems like splitting hairs, but this far into the game, people may actually be misjudging their accuracy by 10% if it still is 0.9 and not 1.

They said skill+ would be independent between main/off-hand. That's why it doesn't show the skill+ for weapon classes in the stats menu.

Honestly all those years with side grades that required you to macro 200 different sets for each job were only good for people that like to watch bacterias having sex in a pile of ***through a microscope.
It's about time we have god like gear, we have been called "heroes" for 11 years while having pathethic survival skills to honor that title.
How many here felt humiliated to complete story missions and watch a CS where that pathetic npc would kill a boss alone while you would require other 5 lolheroes to do the same with tons of sacrifice?
It's about time we start to feel gods and retribute the beating that some NM made us go through these years.
And don't worry, there will be more of them to keep humiliating us, for those who like to be worms.

Have you ever thought about the fact that people who don't like the gear climb *don't* play those other MMOs because they *have* the gear climb?
FFXI was different in that regard, and it may have factored into why some folks played it instead of those other MMOs.

i don't mind old gear getting outdated but making thingsg based on lucky single item drops instead of hardwork seems going in the wrong direction.
also obsoleting old content with new content is just another way to keep game content small. keeping value in old stuff and having new expansion give upgrade path make ppl experince the entire game as a valid content and not just tons of ghost towns.
i strongly believe that i would have more joy in having the uber weapons from completing through the entire game wit tons of story about you friends/ls mates inclined to the weapon, rather then just a lucky drop.

Not only that, but isn't the ratio for skill different between 1 and 2 handers? I know they raised the cap on 1 handers, but did they actually change the calculation?
Last I knew, 2 skill = 1 attack for 1 handers and 3 skill = 2 attack for 2 handers.
Also the combat skill+ weapons don't show in equip menu because they apply only to that hand so dual wielders couldn't take advantage of +400 skill.

This may be horrible to you, but i've gained at least 10 spaces thanks to gear obseletion. Its the same gear treadmill that we've had from the beginning, but increased in speed by patch and not by every expansion. Get over it.

You're correct--massive amounts of sidegrades don't solve anything. I like some aspects of the current gear model and dislike other aspects. I think the current jump of 20 item levels was too much and would have preferred increments of about 10 item levels (much as with past level cap increases where we got 5 levels at a time). So long as the current pace of upgrades stays about as it is and we don't suddenly jump to item level 140 in December or something (which is faster than even WoW tends to completely upend the table), I think they've got a decent model going. The biggest problem with the expansion so far is that they didn't have enough options (both in gear and content) and now that they've begun to flesh things out, the game's looking pretty good in my opinion.
The reason I responded to the post in question was not because I think the game is horrible now but because they were being myopic and assuming that simply because every other MMO does something, another MMO has to do exactly the same thing. That mentality is actually largely killing the genre as most games are trying too hard to emulate WoW, and the problem is that if people wanted WoW, they would play it. Trying to turn FFXI into other MMOs isn't going to suddenly win new subscribers (and there's some indication that their botched implementation of the gear ladder at the expansion's inception has actually cost them some). It is actually okay for games within the same genre to have differences from one another, and generally, it's actually *better* for them to.
So to answer your question: yes, I *have* thought about how endless sidegrades don't "solve" anything.

1 skill = 1 attack
1 skill = 1 accuracy until 200, then post 200 it's 1 skill = .9 acc
So if you have 550 skill, that gives you:
550 attack
200 + (350 * .9) = 515 accuracy
Really, there should be some more testing to see if this version of combat skill acts the same way, or if there is another plateau (over 500, 1 skill = .8 acc or .9 attack or something).

so ~1acc then

So to answer your question: yes, I *have* thought about how endless sidegrades don't "solve" anything. The problem is actually the bias thats within these rants of "they are trying to turn FFXI into a generic MMO". The first thing people came up with was some vague WoW Item score system, which it is not. In terms of levels they didnt want to go over 100 because even though the game supports levels upwards of 225(i dont know if its 225, i remember vaguely someone here saying 200+), the subjob system wouldve been amazingly broken after 100. The JPz (SE's chosen people) also didnt want this (which would lose them their main playerbase [apparently]). So to answer the question "how to give players the progression they want with not so many sidegrades, and how to make challenging content without raising the cap" they created a system where your actual level wouldnt change but gear would get better the higher "level" it was and you would become that "higher level" depending on the gear you had. Its still got a few glitches, but its not overall a bad idea. You get the "ladder" progression from the events before (for people that werent just AFKing in jueno) and you also get a multipath gear switch friendly item base that 1) wont gimp you as soon as you switch to WS,TP,or hybrid and 2) allows you to make content easier as you "uncap" with each patch. The game is probably moving nowhere near WoW, in actuality, SE might actually be answering the playerbase finally by giving you challenging, LS friendly, and "fun" content while giving it to you in a timely manner while providing less sidegrade items and more optimal pieces for each slot and is useable by relatively the same class of jobs cutting down the inventory requirement to level the jobs you need to.
Its just so much more multifacetted than "they want it to be a generic MMO to get more subscribers" but not everyone has the same way of looking at things other than "Thisissowowihatethisgimmeback75capimquitingwaitimbacknoimnotwaitiamabyssearuinedthegamebitchbitchbitch".
