So why did SE remove the "Controller" translate?
Anyone know why or if it was in patch notes about them removing the controller buttons in auto translate? No more O and X etc now.
They removed some auto-translate entries to make room for new ones. Adoulin areas, etc.
Their in-game usage was somewhat limited, though I've seen some people use them to make pretty cool chat log art.
The support for the symbols till exists, so if you find a circle and an "x" character, you should be able to just copy and paste it in (if you're using windower.) I always thought that was easier than finding the right translated thing, then deleting most of it, anyway.
While I know most Ascii stuff works, It was indeed easier to use the translate option for O and X to show if something was clean, dirty or complete heh.
It does not affect the Japanese players as they can just type "batsu" or "maru" and have the IME print the characters for them ... lol (Along with all those sexy Greek, Cyrillic and scientific symbol characters in the Japanese font)
And just where would you find said symbol? I'm not sure what you can really look that symbol up as, or what alt code it may be. It's pretty hard to find that exact entry and not just come up with a " ? " in FFXI.

They have a larger keyboard

By typing their "aliases" on the IME (input method editor). "shiguma" for example gives you the greek letter sigma. Because 16bit fonts allow for 65636 character slots and they didn't need that many to put all their ideograms, they choose to put a lot of foreign language characters, along with special symbols that are useful for scientific and mathematics writing. Odin.Jassik said: » Is there an equivelant for the NA client? Not that I know of. Most times English fonts only have 256 characters. If you're using true type sometimes you have it encoded with Unicode and then it might be the case that the font contains graphics and foreign symbols as well. But certainly ASCII fonts don't have many besides the usual terminal graphic characters we know from the 80s (characters to draw windows and boxes ala IBM/PC TEXT mode...). :) Fenrir.Mariane said: » Odin.Jassik said: » Is there an equivelant for the NA client? Guess I'll just have to stick to the terrible Phonetic English character hodgepodge version. Δ
□ ○ × As was already mentioned, you can copy/paste the above using windower. The downside is that the paste function will mess up any autotranslate terms that you've already typed in the chat box--you can paste new text before you autotranslate something, but not after. |
