I have enjoyed all stages of FFXI, accept King camps maybe because that was the worst idea in all game design and is probably the biggest reason bots exist so widely. That and fishing :P

I think people hate these threads more due to how many there are. Some people like the old FFXI, that's cool, but that's in the past man. Quit livin' in the past!

That's why I don't play this game anymore! XD The old FF11 is death....and is not coming back...so i am not gonna waste my time and money when I will not enjoy the current one o.o

"Adapt or move on"
But I really miss greatly the old FF11....That's why i still read threads just to keep myself informed for no apparent reason! <.<

I enjoyed it....I loved it....

I am just waiting for FF14ARR while i play my console gaming/animes/life stuff/etc :3

The only thing I miss is the sense of community, period.

Oh and some old friends who don't play anymore. EXP? LOL, you must be trippin. 6hrs LFP with 0 invites does not a good MMO make.
that's what I miss, and I manage to talk to a few here and there, and only really managed to keep in touch with 2 people. It makes me sad, but life goes on.

If you miss the "old ffxi" Google. There's free private servers capped at 75.

How's the new content then? Does it bring back any of the older elements of gameplay? Or is it still an abysea spam?

Ever hear that song "Get with the program"? I'm from old school days too but now playing with the new generation. I guess we both have stuff to share. I say get in and mix, don't wanna be too old to learn new stuff.

Lmao, what a lovely community this forum has. I was just thinking back to when I was enjoying the game the most and wondering if anyone else could relate. It's pretty funny how you all jump onto this like a pack of wolves.

It has brought back that element of danger. You can't just run around and be all god mode anymore all the mobs in the zone are T or higher some are EM but rare. Reives seem are very similiar to campaign back at 75.

I started playing FFXI some time in 2003, I played until roughly a year before abysea was added and I enjoyed every moment of it. I'd had my account stolen, had it rolled back, gotten married ingame to someone I still talk to regularly, leveled several jobs to 75, solo'd BST to 75 back in the day, participated in all endgame events and met some very great people. I started as a warrior swinging at bees in Windy with a sword and shield, reading over the 2003 guidebook several times and hoping to one day become a paladin. I was fairly young when I started this game, so it was a fairly big part of my childhood and teenaged years. I didn't accomplish much, but I enjoyed all of the time I spent ingame. I'm not sure why I made this thread, but I was looking back at some old screenshots from 2004ish and really started missing the game. The way the game used to be. I remember having every exp zone and their level ranges memorized, unlocking my first subjob, noob parties, my first ferry trip and hiding downstairs to avoid the kraken. Also killing my first ram outside Holla and having to use my 2 hour lol Limit breaks, rank missions, 15million gp scorpion harnesses, seeing one of the very few relics on the server. Does anyone else miss the old FFXI? Back when leveling took dedication, when questing required groups and people acually spoke in party chat for hours while staticing jobs? And does anyone even know what a magic burst is in 2013?

Yes I'm late to the party, however I bring you a suggestion.

There's a lot of people leveling RUN and GEO, so this is an excellent chance for you to find a newbie (YES THEY EXIST, some are coming due to the expansion) or a friend, choose a lowbie or unleveled job and go through and level without doing Abyssea. You could skip book burns if you wanted to as well. Assuming, you do not have all jobs at 99.

I left quite a few years ago and came back about a month ago. I was 56 when I left. The only time I've been in Abyssea was to do the quest so he would make stones for me as I progressed. My other half decided to join the game for the first time ever.

So, I've leveled with my other half. Yes, we use the book. But that's it. Are we 99? Nope. I only beat Maat last night for Genkai 5, my other half hasn't yet. So is it slow? Yep. Mostly due to my very long hours at work. We've definitely revisited many places I did level at though. Did we want to be book burned to 99? Nope. Although I have a history with the game, my other half does not. My other half does not want to be 99 and not know the job. We've always felt it's important to get to know your class as you progress.

Are we getting help along the way? Actually, yes. The LS we joined has people who are actually excited to have non-99 jobs. They ask us we need help all the time. It has tingled their nostalgia. They'll cash in on us later when we get there though.

If you do it, will it be like old times? Not entirely, but you'll be able to re-experience some things.
