Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada resigns
At least they followed it up with "Advent Children: The Apology"
/though I liked SW too actually They did it right with Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, as they put in what their audience expected to see.
Spirits Within would be better if they went: From the creators of Final Fantasy series Spirits Within Oh well ... Who'd guess SQUARE-ENIX would do the exact same thing ? But hey it's their own fault for outsourcing a first party title work to China. That gave us AMAZING HORSEBIRDS ! http://www.giantbomb.com/final-fantasy-xiv-online-a-realm-reborn/3030-26847/forums/chocobos-renamed-to-horsebirds-in-japanese-version-448270/ Edit: yeah they did write "馬鳥" (umatori) there and Japanese fans were like WTF. lol Lakshmi.Sparthosx said: » I liked DoC only because i play all kinds of games from RPG's, FPS, PvP, RTS etc. I also liked the game for its almost full use of the PS2 graphic capabilities and i enjoyed the back story more told on Vincent. Also while the storyline was a drag on the start, it got way better from middle to end. yes they could of done better on the FPS controls in 3rd person view, maybe they should of done it up like RE4 where you see over Vincent shoulder as a option but the game WASN'T that bad. With this said, if there was a outcry over DoC, how do the fans want/make SE to take a risk with trying to make a better game when all SE gonna get is this 'rage' as a backlash for doing something out of the norm? aside the fact that SE was trying to milk something I'm sure is already milked out. Hell I still have the game and consider it one of my Favs. However i stopped "buying" FF After FF13. Right now XI is my only current FF actively being played aside from playing the Emu FF MysticQuest (the first FF I ever played and still love for its simple stright forward gameplay just Like Threads of Fate) TLTR: I see SE going downhill since they changed from SS =P XIV was Squenix, and Spirits Within was Square... I believe it was a referral to Square just tossing money down the drain on that movie which caused a lot of stock loss and a ultimately drove them into the need of a merger.
Edit: I was like waaaaaaay beaten to the punch Funny thing is i never seen the movie cause i saw reviews on TV that said its nothing like the FF that would come to mind, Hell i never even watched the Anime named Final Fantasy O.o
Kind of thinking SE's biggest problem in the past five years has been that nearly all of its passable ideas have been squandered on handhelds, and of those almost all the REALLY, REALLY GOOD ones have been on the PSP.
EDIT: Yeah, Spirits Within was what put Wada, who was the CEO of Enix, in charge of Square to begin with. You can't blame him for that, but you can definitely blame him for doubling down with Advent Banana. Need to get on the DS train!
i've paid double for SE lol. I have phy copies of all the FF games on PSN now also digital copies.
Honestly, the movie wasn't as bad as people made it out to be :/
ScaevolaBahamut said: » doubling down with Advent Banana I'm stealing this, and naming a particularly deviant sex act after it. Bismarck.Dracondria said: » Honestly, the movie wasn't as bad as people made it out to be :/ I think people were more burned by the fact they were hoping for something ff related, and instead got a wierd, stand-alone movie that had almost nothing to do with the franchise. that being said, if you went in with 0 expectations, I thought it was a good flick as well. just not ff related. Fenrir.Sylow said: » Need to get on the DS train! I mean, yeah, and 4 Heroes of Light is one of the most satisfying JRPGs I've ever played in SE's defense, but the bigger issue is just that you're working on a platform where you can charge $30 for a game at best when you could be charging $60 on a console. Yeah, it's more expensive to develop for consoles, but you sink money into developing this ridiculous engine for FFXIII, and then what? Record of Goddamn Agarest War spawns sequels and spinoffs, and you don't think there's a market for JRPGs in this console generation? Come on. Fenrir.Sylow said: » Considering most MMOs seem to fizzle out or go free to play within 1-2 years, I think FFXI is a far cry from crashing and burning. Bismarck.Kelhor said: » ScaevolaBahamut said: » doubling down with Advent Banana This seems to be an unpopular opinion around these parts but that gif was the best thing to come out of it. Unless, I guess, if you want to count Crisis Core....? Bismarck.Dracondria said: » Honestly, the movie wasn't as bad as people made it out to be :/ As I said before, the movie was bait 'n switch. If the movie had been named anything else, it'd have been reviewed with a totally different set of criteria. It's like walking into a movie called "Metroid" and then being treated to a Romcom where the lead female happens to have a Metroid tattoo. It's more of a slow burn really.
Way too many great ideas being wasted on handhelds these days, honestly.
Cell phones have more or less destroyed the handheld market for most adults, I think. There's money to be made with the DS/etc. for children, but buying a ton of handhelds and trying to keep up with all the games on them anymore is just ridiculous. And I wish so fervently that Nintendo and Sony both would *** QUIT WITH THE CONNECTIVITY CRAZE. I don't WANT my handheld and console to not only connect...but be required to connect for certain games. I really, really liked the first Crystal Chronicles game and the Zelda multi-player games for GameCube with the GBA hookup, but replayability is absolutely nil at this point. Would have been way better if they just made them without needing to tether and connect and what-have-you. But Nintendo and Sony just keep on trucking along with their hard-ons for connectivity of handheld and console. Ugh. ScaevolaBahamut said: » EDIT: Yeah, Spirits Within was what put Wada, who was the CEO of Enix, in charge of Square to begin with. You can't blame him for that, but you can definitely blame him for doubling down with Advent Banana. What was wrong with Advent Children? It was the wetdream that fans wanted and SE gave it to them on a silver platter. Fans didn't ask for The Spirits Within. Cell phones haven't killed handhelds, that's just silly. They occupy different niches.
This gen was a complete bust for SE, so this resignation is accepted.
COME UP WITH THE MOST INNOVATIVE AND INTERESTING IDEAS FOR A FIGHTING GAME IN THE PAST DECADE
PACKAGE THEM WITH UNBEARABLE LOADING TIMES ON A HANDHELD NOBODY PLAYS; SELL IT FOR TWENTY BUCKS Dankdragon said: » It won't. $ before progress, just like the feds, and every business. edit: CEO was fired. "Guys we need a new CEO." "Let's ask our head-executive crew and our shareholders who would fit in." "I know a guy that is good in economics" "great, ask him" voilà a new CEO, and nothing big changed. Is it wrong that when I hear this kinda information I just assume he is gonna do some hari-kari?
Sylph.Organic said: » hari-kari ![]() i do not think he will commit suicide. I would much rather have him shred some bitchin' licks than kill himself, this is true
So nobody credit Deus ex HR and Tomb Raider to SE? I played both of them and I think they are great games. Not the top 'I am a fanboy forever' game but certainly 'I'd recommend to my friends' games. SE is becoming a decent publisher for games that have appeals to the Western market. I can tell that they are trying to learn quickly so the:-) y can make a game that will appeal to the Western market but still retain its 'final fantasy' elements. They have failed so far but I think they are getting somewhere.
As far as Spirits Within goes its a FF nerd rage because they plopped FF in front of the name...even though it has the steam punky, theological message,Cid,and "the planet!" themes that any FF game has...and then it looks beautiful (kinda) on an HDTV now.
Square and SE were/are always trying to make games that are not of their time. XIV was literally made for computers that will be invented 10 years from now and with concepts that are ridiculous NOW but watch Blizzard put in a fatigue/mix and match system in and then it explodes throughout the industry. But yea, poor Wada, he is gunna have to go down to a cheaper pool girl service :( |
