Introducing the SQUARE ENIX Software Token Application (03/21/2013)

Coming in early April, this new smartphone application will allow players to generate one-time passwords. We highly recommend it to our users as a quick and easy way to enhance the security of your Square Enix account with your iOS or Android device.

Mar. 30, 2013 05:06 [PDT] From: PlayOnline
Please Safeguard your Software Token’s Emergency Removal PW
We are currently receiving many contacts from customers who, after registering a Software Token, have become unable to log into their accounts due to the following reasons.

- The Square Enix Software Token app was accidentally deleted
*Even if the app is reinstalled, you will be unable to reconfigure the Software Token since this requires you to log into the Square Enix Account Management System.

- Smartphone was restored to factory settings

- Smartphone broke

- Switched to a new smartphone

If you are no longer able to log in due to any of the reasons above, you must use an Emergency Removal Password to remove the Software Token.

Therefore, please ensure that you write down your Emergency Removal Password and store it in a safe place. You can check your Emergency Removal Password by logging into the Square Enix Account Management System after registering a Software Token to your Square Enix account.

If you have become unable to log in and also lost your Emergency Removal Password, please refer to the FAQ below and contact the Support Center.

Mog Satchels Now Available with the SQUARE ENIX Software Token

As of today, the Mog Satchel item is now available for those using the SQUARE ENIX Software Token application for iOS and Android smartphones.

Learn more about how to use and set up the SQUARE ENIX Software Token.

May 13, 2013 00:25 [PDT] From: FINAL FANTASY XI
Mog Satchel now Available with the Software Token
As of May 13, 2013, players using the Square Enix Software Token (Software Token) will also receive the Mog Satchel.

Registering a Software Token to your Square Enix account will allow both existing and newly created characters on that account to receive the Mog Satchel. Players who already have a Software Token registered will receive the Mog Satchel immediately.

However, please note that an account will not be eligible to receive the Mog Satchel if a Software Token was initially registered to it but is currently removed. In such a case, please register another Software Token to receive the Mog Satchel. In addition, characters who have already received the Mog Satchel on a Square Enix account that has a Square Enix Security Token (Security Token) registered to it will be able to continue using the item even after the Software Token is removed.

*The specs for the Mog Satchel are the same for the Security Token and Software Token. Removing the Security Token and registering a Software Token in its place will not enable the use of multiple Mog Satchels and the number of storable items will not increase either.

Here is just a random question, is this even a good idea?

If you buy a security token, you own it. No one else can use it unless you lose it.

If you use this, I assume you have to log into your account on your phone to get the password generator. So what is stopping someone else that already has your information from logging in and using it on their phone?

They might lock it to your phone, in which case it would be safe I think. Or you have to register your phone on the SE account management website before you can use it.

I'm not sure about this atm until there is more information.

If it works anything like the SWTOR one SE will give you a serial number to enter. In turn the app will give a key to enter on website linking the app to your account. Then when you want to play you simply launch the app and a key is provided. But if something gets screwy on your phone you have to call them and have it removed since you will not be able to log into any sites/game.

That makes sense, thanks for clearing that up for me.

I'm sure SE would just say "we've told you not to give people your info before" responce, which is good advise

This is just going to be a software version of the token so more than likely they would need to know your Token ID as well. My only question is if you can set it up for multiple tokens.

The security token is about controlling your log in, giving your information out would be pointless because they would have to ask you for the token number each time they want to log in.

If you own a token chances are you aren't giving your information out anyways.

The token wasn't free, I don't see them making this free.

I'm sure it will cost the same as the token, and provide the satchel if you buy it.

this works very well with other games, but idk if se will do the same as other games. for example with wow, if u reset ur phone and need to re-sync ur app, all you have to do is get a verification code sent to your phone number instead of having to call.

no other games charge for this app, i doubt se will.

I've seen other MMOs use both app and tokens for this. Tokens you paid for, app was free. I hope SE doesn't charge for the app.

pretty sure they wont charge, no other games do, it SAVES them time and money for every person that uses an authenticator, less hacked accounts and such.

Only see this being a good idea if your token is lost or broken. Id still use token and use this as a back up until a new token is received. Putting more of our information on to a Mobile device "phone, tablet etc" is only increasing the chance of being hacked and charging is more $ imo is ridiculous, they should give these options to everyone for free since We all pay a monthly fee.... they should ensure us our content is safe. Bottom line: Keep your token in a desk drawer where you no its safe & cant be hacked.

I have a blizzard authenticator app for my phone. its basically the same as an SE token because there is an individual serial key (like on the back of the SE token). Personally I dislike the entire thing, because it's just more ways to *** up your account. Only reason I have my blizzard one is because I *** up my starcraft/diablo accounts a bit so much that the ONLY way to get them working was use this.

Dont see why this wouldnt be free. The blizzard app is,the blizzard token isnt.

If they include the satchel for those who use it though, which it doesn't say it will, it was just a guess, then I think they will charge for it because of that.

They might not include the satchel, or it might be something different that isn't an additional storage, or just nothing at all.

the only way an app like this could be hacked is if there were Trojans that could remote access ur phone and live hit ur "generate pw", not to mention they would have to open the app. the app is highly sensitive and any tampering pretty much throws the sync off, it doesnt take much to have to re-sync. luckily in other games such as wow, as i said they just send you a verification code to your phone via txt.

from my personal experience with both token and app, they are equally safe and hassle free. i will say the same can be said for SE's as well as long as they have a similar way to re-sync the app.

BTW, a lot of banks use this. At the end of the day, it's the same as a little plastic dongle.

One caveat...
If you dumb enough to "root" your phone and install some malicious software on it (and if you look at the statistics, this happens a lot on Android), another app could theoretically steal the unique key and generate codes for your account.

Is that a seperate WoW feature? I've never played WoW but I have a blizzard account for other games and I just hit the app on my phone to generate a key,it doesnt text it to me

the txt is for if ur app somehow gets fked up, for example like if you reset your phone and re-download the app, the app codes wont work anymore. when this happens you just goto the website and go through to options and it sends you a verification code via txt to your phone, you then use that code in your app and the app is re-synced.
