Hello all,
I have read a ton of threads over the last two days across the web and posts going back to 2005. I ran tests in Abyssea and found that the damage on Holy Bolts capped at 124-125 MND but light damage Atma made it jummp significantly. I also have the Chatoyant staff and am acquiring the Guglielmo's Bow this weekend as well as the Trilling Dagger to also test.
My two questions are simple; Does anyone have the Holy Bolt Additional Damage calculator? Does Divine Magic Skill increase the damage? I have ran tests on Magic Attack Bonus and no increase was observed. All I need to know is if there are any other skills/attributes that add to the damage and if Divine Magic is one of them.
Cheers

While I haven't seen testing done, I would assume Divine Skill does not increase the damage, due to the jobs that can equip Holy Bolts not having any natural Divine magic Skill, and gear being limited to what you can use to increase it.

mnd only. the light dmg + is a percent increase much like on blm nukes. you could also use the respective obi to get an additional increase during light weather.

I managed to find +27 Divine Magic Skill that could be added into a RNG's build. Before buying and testing I wanted confirmation that someone had tried (because it does help Holy Damage) and not noticed an increase.

But BLM nukes are affected by Elemental Magic Skill though, correct?

Kind of a silly question, I guess, but why don't you just change your sub to WHM or RDM and test it?
Like:
RNG/WHM with 124 MND
vs.
RNG/SAM with 124 MND
One has 0 Divine skill and the other has whatever 49WHM gets.

no, because you'll have to open 10 books between each shot.

also, the nukes don't get any increase in damage the way that weapon skill increases your attack. it only lowers the resistance rate. while this will help you achieve more consistent numbers on nukes, it wont raise your maximum damage.

Well the original question wasn't silly in the sense that I asked 'has anyone already tested and knows the results' as oppose to 'how do I test this' which is what you chose to answer.
If indeed no one has actually tested, then your answer has value and is the next logical step.

Sadly, Aurorastorm is level 55. Just out of reach of using it as a subjob ability on RNG but having a SCH in the party using it would be worth having the RNG use the waist piece.
The setup we are using will be
NIN
RNG
RNG
RNG
RNG
SCH
And the SCH suing Aurorastorm on the party will garner the results we are hoping to test out.

I meant that my question was silly, but I saw you talking about buying Divine Magic Skill gear for RNG so I wasn't sure.

Oh, gotcha! Either way, your approach will be the easiest to test.

Wouldn't /SCH with light arts give a bigger boost if divine does increase it?

I couldn't remember if Light Arts gave Divine skill because SCH doesn't have any native Divine spells. That would be the easiest way to test, though, because you'd obviously have the same MND before and after activating Light Arts.

Great point, and I will be testing it out. I think Lakshmi's approach of the /WHM and /WAR test with the same MND will be the first step and if there is a difference I will switch to the /SCH and see.

There will be a significant increase in skill from no Light Arts to Light Arts.
If you don't notice a difference by doing that, then it either doesn't affect it, or the increase is so insignificant that it does nothing.

So I tried the test out with RNG/WHM and RNG/WAR in Abyssea - La Theine.
The results were that both did additional Damage 72-80 BUT the damage when /WHM was equipped was hitting in the 77-80 range much higher. The damange never broke 80 when the Divine Magic was added but it appears to increase the rate of hitting closer to the full effect of the light damage.
More tests to follow.

That was probably from the higher Mnd.
Just do /Sch with and without Light Arts. Stats will be constant, and there will be a significant boost in skill.
Skill based on sub job:
150/whm
133/sch
370/sch (Light Arts)

That makes sense, considering skill level adjusts resistance when (most)magic is concerned, so it should work similarly to black magic or enfeebling magic (without regards to MAB), just a random thought but does atma with dark elemental magic attack lower the added damage?
