Looking to start a craft... What's best?
So after years of ff I've finally decided to start a craft. What's a profitable craft to start on? Sitting on only 15 mil at the moment and I don't know where to begin. I haven't had time to research just yet, posting this while at work. Thanks in advance whoever decides to reply.
I think Goldsmithing has the total most profitable synths, but getting to 100+ is hands-down the worst to do.
This is my impression. Fishing.
Carbuncle.Anesthesia said: » Fishing. um like many have said fishing isnt bad because in the end the fishes pay for themselves but so many people are fishing now and days it wont take long until rmt do it and then SE nerfs prices on the famous npc fishes like back during rusty cap days. that being said fishing as a side thing to make some extra cash isnt bad but as far as main crafts go... all depends on your server and the market. all crafts are good in their own way, example is i had cooking back when melon pie +1 were 80k a stack i made tons of money off that and i mean tons but then new food started coming out and for dd sushi no longer was something to use it was all about red curry buns which isnt that much a profit anymore on the server i was last on since ive quit not long ago. I was always a big fan of large gil at a time profit so when i was able to produce gil thanks to blinkers(i know omg not you too, get over it) i went ahead and leveled smithing which also went well with the jobs i was playing. Smithing cost me roughly 45m to power grind to 100 from 1 and all sub crafts to 70 from 1 as well, then i would say roughly another 15m for last 4 lvls because to me cap is 104 for smithing since the hexed gear isnt so popular in bahamut cus i believe they suck. Other crafts like bone and leather have nice profit items which if you can find the buyer it can net good profit also they are both fairly cheap to take to at least 100 and goldsmithing altho it has an item that sells for 140m if you make it you also spend about 10m a synth on bahamut server so if your 0/12 guess what your down 120m since all hexed nq dont sell unless some idiot wants it that bad and i think on our server hexed jacket much cheaper and sell for alot more if you -1. So Short answer to it all is, check your server needs and view the cost to take the crafts and sub crafts to the lvl needed to reach your profit area and in the meantime fish, my mule just 0-80 fishing made 6m in npc'ing which paid for the rod itself. i never understood why ppl used to give that advice in the old days but i see it now... when you have competition undercutting you on prices and trying to offer more on materials (you know who you are O.O) so im glad im done with the game to not worry about that but take it all into consideration.
holy *** lol
Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. Ill examine my server a little closer now. I tried fishing but honestly it was the most boring thing ever... But then again I suppose all crafts have their moments...

Valefor.Prothescar said: » You ought to be exiled for saying that fishing is boring Throw me in that exiled realm too. That ***blows. It probably profits a lot, but fishing is boring at hell. I can't even stand to take it to 28 so I can throw gil at Matsya fish for the crafting cape >_<. :(
![]() Well I knew you had high fishing lol. Some people DO enjoy it lol. I thought you MIGHT be one of them.
MAYBE I AM
wanna fite aboot it ![]() lol +1 for making me laugh Proth. Col use your damn enter key!
Personally, I'm going GS. I'm in the same boat as you, I used to do a tiny bit of cooking/fishing, but not much in the profit making area. I'm only lvl 3 right now, still just poking around with copper ingots (suckers sell fast and with a hell of a profit) but looking to bring it up more. {Good luck!}
@waka don't sass me boy
@Eikechi the whoosh was that proth named a famous uh helper to all us fishers that make fishing as easy as watching youtube... and lastly yea my post was long didn't see how long until i hit post lol. If you found fishing boring, you are going to find the other crafts a lot worse....
OK, just some advice, people always jump to Goldsmithing because it has historically been seen as really profitable. Those days are over, and there are only 1 or 2 synths really worth doing, which you don't get to do until much later on. I have Goldsmithing, Woodworking and Cooking leveled and GS is by far the least profitable of my crafts. plus is takes a ton of gil investment to level. Best bet is to use something that makes consumables, Cooking always makes money and I think alchemy is still profitable. Good luck! mort all crafts are cheap til 60 after that is when you have to worry but i guess not so much now and days, also i went with the whole synth desynth route for gold was nice especially with silver earrings and the 60-70 i think i used maybe 4 stacks of ingots and kept repeating back and forth for 10 lvls
edit: dont feel like posting so much lol i keep going back to a new comment that for some reason i want to add to it. umm this is why i said do the research as far as your servers needs. food is nice but its small profit and if your fine with that then good and things like powder/oils also get used alot but you can just take alch to 70 and hq at a decent rate. Good point, you can prob. lvl Alch to the cap to fund a more expensive craft's skilling up process. And yes, cooking can be small profit, but you can sit there making as much profit as you can be bothered to over time. Some stuff sells faster than you can make it! ^ EDIT.... to the "sub" cap I meant.
I was thinking GS up until about an hour ago lol. Alchemy on the other had wouldn't be to bad right? And as far as cooking goes small profit is better than no profit I suppose. Just trying to make as much Gil as I can to 99 my Vere... Damn I should have been done this...
Thanks for the advice though guys. Really appreciate it. Not only can you make decent gil with Alchemy, you can make gil leveling Alchemy.
Leathercraft or Smithing would have to be the top 2 from my own personal experience. Unless you want to take Goldsmithing all the way to 110 just to desynth geodes and possibly try some hexed gear. Just take everything to 70 and see which one you like more, either way you'll need most your subs @70 anyways. Can never hurt!

You can no doubt take Leathercraft from 0-105 with less than 15M so long as you farm Coeurl Hides and craft lower level leathers as profit on the side as you go. I can personally say I made money leveling leathercraft and by the time I was 70-80 I had already made all my money back. Now @105 I've more than made my money back. ![]() Quote: Looking to start a craft... What's best? |
