So I put a bunch of PC parts together that I plan on buying. I have a paypal account that I transfer money to from my Debit card to pay for Crysta. So I hit checkout with Paypal in Newegg and it brings me to the payment page. At the top it says "This merchant only accepts instant payments. To continue with this purchase, link a debit or credit card to your PayPal account Or choose other options below." The 2 options are "Link a new Credit Card (pay now)" or "Add money from your bank account (not instant) Pay in 6-8 business days" My question is, if I add money to my Paypal account through Paypal's website, will the option be there for me to pay for it? Or, do I HAVE to hit "Add money from your bank account (not instant)" through Newegg's website in order to be able to pay? It's just weird to put that this merchant only accepts 'instant payments' and then give you an option that specifically tells you it's "not instant"...I don't want to do anything stupid lol.

I was thinking that the only reason I can't hit "Pay now" like I can when I pay for Crysta is because I don't have enough money in there to pay for it, but I don't know.

I suspect, from the language you cited, that the site is expecting money to be resident in the Paypal account (i.e. there is sufficient balance in the Paypal account at the time of payment to cover the full charge) or have an immediate funding source like a credit card (where there would likely be a surcharge.)

I believe this would be in contrast to paying "by web check" (i.e. where the purchase price would be charged to a secondary funding source like a bank or debit account, where they money has to clear the normal deposit and verification route typical of banks in a 3-5 day process.)

That being said, I think that if you either clear the amount beforehand with your debit card such that the account balance on Paypal is sufficient to cover the expense at time of payment you should be fine. You could also link a credit card as a funding source for Paypal, but I would think if you wanted to do that you would have simply used the credit card to pay on the Newegg site.

The UI on the cited page on Newegg does sound odd, though (sight-unseen.) I am not sure why the option to simply use any balance on Paypal wouldn't have been available, even if you didn't have sufficient funds. Maybe call the Newegg customer service to be sure beforehand if you don't want a lot of money sitting in your Paypal account that is unusable.

Ah, yea if I had a Credit Card, I would just do that to make it easier lol. I'll just try it out I guess. If worse comes to worse I can always just transfer the money back from my Paypal to my Bank account.

I recommend transferring the money to your paypal account first. I have had issues in the past with other websites not giving me what I payed for because I used the non-instant option.

Bojack, it sounds to me that through your paypal account, you already have a linked debit card since you pay crysta from it. Since you have a debit card associated with your account, you more than likely have already "verified" your bank account number, routing number etc that is associated with your debit card. That said, you can technically purchase anything via paypal now and let the transaction request the funds directly from your bank info etc. This is the instant version and I do this all the time. I wouldn't waste your time transferring money from your bank to your paypal since its essentially doing the same thing but you'll have to wait for the transfer.
