thanks for all the help me! np sexy. well goddammit, I got everything functioning in-game, short of the *** dpad. it's like FFXI config. won't even recognize the dpad, it's extremely odd to me, as the windows gamepad config is seeing the dpad fine. i don't get it. if someone has any insight,
<you can have this> <3 I'm using a PS2 controller using a USB adapter, so not exactly the same setup... I have to make sure the Analog option is turned on, on mine. Also, just because Windows gamepad config recognizes it, doesn't mean FFXI gamepad config does; under Start -> Programs -> PlayOnline -> FFXI Config, first window, click on the Gamepad Settings button. Not sure if you were aware of that or not; if you haven't gone there yet, give that a shot. Might be overstating the obvious here, but mentioning just in case.
(POL has its own config menu for gamepads as well, btw. I've burned through a few non-PS2 controllers over the years before settling on the current setup... always annoying when I get confirm and cancel reversed on POL vs. FFXI) Sylfeya said: » I'm using a PS2 controller using a USB adapter, so not exactly the same setup... POL config. but I appreciate stating the obvious, because it probably is something obvious. ; ; Er... maybe missing something. There are TWO gamepad config windows from S-E, and a third from Windows itself. POL has a config, which is only used for POL itself. FFXI has its own gamepad config window, where you can assign tasks to individual buttons (like assigning /heal to a specific button). You need to make sure to update the settings using the FFXI gamepad config, not POL gamepad config. Just want to make sure that's clear.
If I'm not mistaken, windows needs a special driver to use a PS3 controller, since it can't auto detect.
I had been trying to get mine to work wirelessly via a USB bluetooth receiver. After finally finding the right program and enough testing and button/thumb stick assignments, I finally got it figured out, only for the controller to turn itself off from not being used for 10 minutes, even though I was actively using it the whole time. I forget whats its called though. Also, I know on Logitech game pads, there is an additional button in the middle, just above the location of the start and select buttons. On those controllers, if you don't push that button, then the left analog stick will function as the d-pad, and the d-pad will function as the left analog.
I'm not sure if this is what's happening to you or not. I realize you need to set it up in ffxiconfig. that step has been done. I log-in with my wifes' character, & everything on the controller functions exactly as I set it up & intended. just like playing ffxi on the ps3. however, you use the dpad when you play on ps3 to navigate the menus, & for some strange reason the ffxi-config would not take inputs from the dpad correctly. my theory atm is the controller is maybe too old, gonna try a different one. if someone has something better, please let me know Did you make a "custom" control set on the DS3 page? That's what I did, everything works great.
download the ds3 tool, set the buttons up in xi config etc, dpad/joysticks etc, make sure you're not on ffxi while doing so, sometimes have to restart iirc, test the buttons on the ds3 page and you should be good to go.. edit; Make sure you hit "enable" on the DS3 page, after selecting your "custom" setting. Most recently I just set motioninjoy to "PS2" mode, and it works, but I used to fiddle with the sets.
When I run it, I hit enable, and "test vibration" and if it works, it should work, then I test it in the PC game controller menu (there's a link in the motioninjoy software) if it's all working properly there then I load the proper language ffxi config and check it there, now if all those places are working, and it's not working in game, I'd double check which language you're starting up, or to see if there's a controller saved in it's memory, I forget how to clear that though. and it was apparently somebody else, and my memory is whack at times...

think of it as a preset config Jetackuu said: » yar, it's a setting mode think of it as a preset config will do. I'll let you know if its successful after my stupid dyna run. thanks man. did it first while talking to a friend, if anyone has the same problem, ps2 setting worked, then had to check "enable hat switching"
w/e the hell that means. thanks again jet, now to get it working for minecraft!!! (I'll attempt to figure it out for myself before I come crying for help) nice.
I mean I've gotten it to work with custom settings, but it's just easier that way imo. It has to do with x-input vs d-input XI doesn't support x-input etc ![]() so my controller decided it doesn't want to work for me anymore >.>
i use a ps2 to usb controller adapter and this thing was working perfectly all last night when i was playing ffxi. went to sleep woke up, logged in the game and it wouldn't work. went into settings gamepad config and it's not registering at all. rebooted pc and still nothing. can anyone give me any leads? the dualshock light powers on and windows detects it being plugged in so i honestly don't know what the problem is ._. Honestly it's probably just a controller issue more than windows by the sounds of it.
I'd try roll back any drivers, trying another adaptor etc. But people should just pick up a 360 wired controller literally plug and play. No extra drivers, nothing just enable and map buttons |
