I'd like to hear some suggestions for a Blue Mage atma set in Abyssea when fighting NM's that don't have any specific threats. (stuff like high magic, spikes, breaths etc)
I usually have MM and Apoc on (I really like that combo), but I can't decide on a definite third one.
I tried Mounted Champion, Razed Ruins, Viscitude, Thousand Needles, Voracious Violet, Zenith.. but I'm not completely happy with either of them.
If I had Savior I'd give that a go, since the many status boosts will help on Blue Mage (modifiers everywhere!) and I want to test out that absorb %, see if it's worth it. (sadly I only still lack Apademak's atma to obtain Savior...)
So yeah, post your Blue Mage atma set; I'd like to hear how/why it works for you =) Thanks in advance!

Not 100% sure on this, I know RR was the #1 DD atma and Blu is a DD! so yeah it would help with any of the crit spells I assume and then all your melee hits not to mention the nice boost it will give to CDC. so yeah I would go with that if I were you. I mostly use RR/MM/Apoc myself.

I wouldn't ever trade Razed ruins when out dding. And I'd even debate dropping minikin, depending on what you're doing, in favour of some other dd atma, like scythe as suggested above.

Maybe it's because I'm a Galka, but I really like having MM on as BLU since I tend to use up my MP fairly fast. I'm not spamming damage spells though. Auto-Refresh and Mintan+2 gives me 3/tic which is great, but the extra boost from MM is a welcoming addition, at least to me.
I was under the impression RR only worked on melee hits and not on spells. Blue physical spells are an exception since they inflict physical damage (since Invincible blocks it). Long story short: I will give RR another chance in my next few runs.

The bulk of your damage should be coming from your melee hits + WS's hence the use of RR.

RR does work on spells, just remember that our spells can't naturally crit. They work like WSs. For instance, quadrastrike is a "chance of crit hit vary with tp" spell, and the only way to activate tp bonuses on blu spells is through chain affinity.
RR also gives 50 dex, so any spell modified by dex will get that bonus as well. Also, heavy strike is a forced-crit spell, so it will always gain +30% damage from the crit hit dmg+ on RR.(which is already the best mp to dmg ratio physical spell)
If you are ever meleeing a mob, you should have RR on. The faster an enemy is dead, the less chance he has to kill you. And don't forget battery charge gives you another 3mp/tick.

Didn't know that bit about the critical hits... Thanks! Always cool to learn more about your favorite job.
And yeah I forgot to mention Battery Charge... /slap <me>

Did a lot of NM's today in Abyssea - Misareaux. Used Apoc/RR/Scythe for the first 60 min, Apoc/RR/MM for the 2nd half. Eventhough the first set-up hits a LOT harder on melee hits, I do like the 2nd set better since I'm able to cast Occultation whenever it's needed. I guess Apoc/RR/Scythe works better in a party set-up, but I'll do some more runs tomorrow.

I usually use GH over SS when solo at least(Or duo with alt when I get lazy), could maybe try that out.
What sub are you using for these NM's? Not sure when you'd really need Occultation when /nin, lunge should be able to shut most everything down when not trying to proc(Depending on mob, wouldn't bother for like Nonno and Funereal Apkallu).

You can sub out Apoc if you have a competent healer
Atma of Alpha and Omega if you have.
Triple Attack+: Major (10%)
Attack+: Superior (+50)
HP-: Superior (-25%)

Apoc, RR, Sanguine Scythe for damage.
Apoc, RR, GH if tanking and farming +1 seals.
Apoc, RR, MM?? If I need mana from Occultation spam or something then I just pop a blue chest with soothing light or use a lucid ether. MM just seems like a largely wasted atma slot for BLU.
Always set Auto-Refresh.
Keep up Battery Charge/Animating Wail
Refresh/Regen gear in your idle set.
The only refresh gear I have is the body and serpentes set (been too lazy to farm a wivre hairpin). I think I get like 9hp per tick from my regen gear though which is pretty snazzy.

The better way to answer your question is what do you plan to be doing in abyssea with blu and what other jobs are going to be around you?
if you have an almace pretty much this for maximizing DOT and CDC and manage mp accordingly; without Almace Vorpal Blade can get some decent damage but kind of lolzy but at the 90 cap time I was using GH Apoc RR instead of SS for GH.
Spells should be your primary concern for damage without an almace however and self scing when CA is up and vorpal on cooldown.
Of course there's also the advent of CA or Efflux with Quadrastrike and heavy strike which do ludicrous amounts of damage.

RR/SS/Apoc most of the time. I'm I'm duoing or soloing, I trade Apoc for MM. I just can't drop RR and SS no matter what. Those atmas are too sexy especially if you have access to Almace and CDC.

To answer some of these questions in the thread:
1) I go as BLU/THF mostly right now because I'm farming seals (solo).
2) In a party set-up I'm either BLU/WAR (red procs) or more common BLU/DNC
3) Sadly I do not have CDC (yet), but I'm working on it...
4) I have about 900~1100 MP depending on the area. Because I have all 3 Blue mage procs (for yellow) set at all times I can't set my usual Conserve MP. It's why I run out of MP quicker then wanted.

1) Can set TH trait + Tarutaru Sash with TH (it's well worth the farm if you don't have it yet). Even without it, you can still get TH1 from setting trait spells and the extra proc from /nin can come in handy.
2) /dnc is for dynamis only
4) I farm seals as BLU/NIN (usually duo with a blm/brd) Here's my spell set.
Animating Wail
Delta Thrust
Empty Thrash
Heavy Strike
Actinic Burst
Winds of Promy.
Charged Whisker
Everyone's Grudge
Amorphic Spikes
Fantod
Sudden Lunge
Proc Spell
Proc Spell
Proc Spell
Battery Charge
Magic Fruit
Regeneration
Usually have a few points from here so might put in Occultation or Blank Gaze depending on what I'm fighting. Drop Fantod if you need one extra point to pick up something.

I usually go RR/GH/MM (Don't have Apoc yet, and i refuse to brew it.) If it's something like an Iron Giant, then I replace GH with MC.
If you have a WHM mule or friend who can cure then MM is a waste. I'm not gonna pay for another account just to level a WHM mule though. I don't think being able to use Apoc instead of MM is worth ~£10 a month.
This is assuming you are soloing.
Decent kill speed & decent safety without needing temps.

After soloing for so long in Aby you learn to conserve MP. I never use Minikin for soloing unless absolutely necessary. It might be a good idea if it's a new fight to you, or you're generally not confident in your ability to sustain MP yet. Even with Occultation costing so much, if you play your cards right you can manage and still have a kickass 3rd atma in MM's place. Best of luck!

I like MM mostly for sustainability, you can farm a target for 2-3 hours without worrying about MP at all. Pretty much makes all your spells free and the extra INT takes the edge off magic damage.
When it comes to farming pops, unlimited MP for QC/whisker/etc is also a bonus.
It provides a nice safety net thats hard for me to pass up.
As an example, while fighting eccentric eve a few weeks ago, Turul decided to join the party. I've never been so glad to be able to spam spells back to back without worrying about MP. :D
If you have a friend with you then it's not really a problem to switch it out.
Edit: setting auto refresh + battery charge always ends up cutting into my traits, especially if i have TH set and a space for a proc spell saved. (Usually just cast till i get hint then switch that element in after a fresh occultation). I do set Winds of promy if I know my target applies erasable debuffs but it's still stretching it and usually means I have to drop something more preferable to my playstyle.
what kinda spell setups do you use in abby for farming +2's? (without a whm mule) I know theres not 1 specific spell set as I mix and match stuff depending on the target. In general though?

If you want to see something fun on blu/thf try SA, chain affinity, efflux benthic typhoon while using RR and Sanguine Scythe. Sudden Lunge gives you enough time (on most mobs) to do this solo.
Without CDC, RR/SS/MM is not a horrible combo just fyi. Focus most of your damage on heavy strike spam. With haste up and empy +2 hands, recast is surprisingly quick. Just make sure to be using loki's/athos body for a significant increase in damage.

Atma of perfect attendance is a great one to round out mm and rr. Gives you 10Hp/5mp/1tp per tick. Come from finishing all assaults

Seems like Atma of Perfect Attendance would be great for blu. It has regen +10 refresh +5 and regain +1. If you can leave battery charge on and have the regain earring from wings would make it even stronger for a all around atma.
Edit: bah Eli posted about it right before me while i was double checking name and stats..
