God Bless America! Whoa... barely before the second page and welcome to the continuation of the class warfare they keep bringing on themselves.

Whoa... barely before the second page well, it's not so much pizza hipsterosity as much as it is: their pizza *** sucks I've never had it. And to be serious - yeah, good pizza is really good.
I just like to be a clown. :D We should make a favorite pizza place thread, to include pics. Yum. Might kill people with pictures of godlike pizza, so that could be dangerous
I've always thought their pizza was mediocre at best tbh.
People look at me weird like I kicked their dog when I say it too. Jetackuu said: » I've always thought their pizza was mediocre at best tbh. It doesn't have ***on the NY mom and pop pizza joints I grew up on though. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/09/papa-johns-obamacare-john-schnatter_n_2104202.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular
Quote: Schnatter made headlines over the summer when he told shareholders that the cost of a Papa John’s pizza will increase by between 11 and 14 cents due to Obamacare. Oh God! An extra dime and a few pennies and the people serving my pizza have access to health care. THIS IS SOCIALISM! THIS IS UNAMERICAN! Love the overhyped use of sarcasm Sylow :)

Eating an actual slice of pizza would blow their mind This. Fast food "pizza" from about any chain gives me horrible times in the bathroom 90% of the time. Know this from experience.... never ordering a P'zone EVER again for that very reason <_< Either I have a digestive system built like a tank or there's a large number of people that have really weak ones. I know a bunch of people who complain that this or that fast food joint gives them bathroom issues, I could live off the stuff and have 0 issues.
Here's a dangerous fact: Most fast-food chain stores don't give their employees ample time to thoroughly and properly wash their hands between handling raw (meat, fish, poultry, vegetables or fruit) and the cooked product. I've also encountered many "Kitchen Managers" (quotations for a reason) who completely disregard sanitation rules.
Might be why they send you to the crapper with horrible experiences. It's an extremely common version of foodborne illness or food poisoning. And for the small price of $0.14/pizza, you can go to the hospital for your Salmonella and not have to declare bankruptcy!

There are a ton of double standards when it comes to foodsafe sanitation. Many of the workplaces only give you 30 seconds to wash your hands. Sanitation Guidelines state an employee needs a minimum of 1 minute 45 seconds to thoroughly wash and scrub their hands. More time is needed when you work with the deepfryers that use any kind of breading, simply because it takes longer to properly wash and sanitize your hands, between fingers, and under fingernails. Hell, one place i got completely bitched out over using a knife i had recently cut a beet with, to slice a piece of quiche with, but they weren't all that concerned with serving moldy food before i was hired.
homemade pizza, its cheaper, you can put anything you want on it, etc
hamburger and shrimp pizza with red onion, and a mountain of mozzarella cheese, baked over an open flame. nom. that being said, im Canadian, boycotting some chain ive never been to - although im pretty sure papa johns is established in Canada - has no effect on me. Bismarck.Bloodrose said: » Hell, one place i got completely bitched out over using a knife i had recently cut a beet with, to slice a piece of quiche with, but they weren't all that concerned with serving moldy food before i was hired. I'm guessing it would be because of the way beets bleed colour. although in my experience every food place seems to have different standards, which may or may not change by the day. If bleeding color was a bigger issue than simply serving month old quiche, making patrons ill, and filing lawsuits, and loss of business due to extremely bad service, sickening food, and poor management were the case, i would agree.
I called the kitchen manager out one day when i caught him EATING from a customer's plate directly after dipping his fingers in food surface sanitizer. Also, the kitchen knives were only ever sharpened once a month. I had to bring in my own steel to sharpen knives so cuts were clean, and that lettuce wasn't oxidizing the second it was sliced. Another day i found a short black hair in a container of sliced ham. Manager on duty, simply said to dispose of the top layer, where as i said *** it, threw the whole contaminated batch out, and cut some fresh ham. Good thing my subway lives by the Eat Fresh motto. Jeez, I never want to eat at other places because of horrible places like what was mentioned.
We're talking about a minimum wage jobs at a fast food restaurant chain. How many of them could possibly working more than 30 hours beyond management. You want healthcare, get out of the pizza place.
It's only cut hours too, better than firing the employees. Eagleeyes Siren said: » We're talking about a minimum wage jobs at a fast food restaurant chain. How many of them could possibly working more than 30 hours beyond management. You want healthcare, get out of the pizza place. It's only cut hours too, better than firing the employees. Minimum wage = 8 dollars an hour... do you honestly think someone can afford to work 8 dollars an hour less than 40 hours a week and afford their home let alone health insurance? Also get out of the pizza place? you realize how hard it is to find a job period? I have been looking for a job for 2 years and no one is hiring me. Not really. In recent research groups, it's been proven to be worse than firing an employee, because they are required to work on a schedule that keeps them from finding work elsewhere. It's not just the pizza places either. It's ALOT of businesses that are poorly managed, where the focus is on scrimping loose change, than coming up with marketable ideas to increase revenue.
"We currently offer this, but due to minimally rising costs, we're cutting back on everyone that isn't management." vs. "Ok, costs have gone up, let's see what ideas we can come up with as a team that'll benefit everyone." Papa John's is just one of the current examples of this trend. Taking a course on managing a business is not the same as managing sales, marketing, or managing people. The entire focus is on how to save money, rather than creating ways to have money exchange hands. ***, you don't hear people bitching about "if the price of my pizza goes up 10 more cents this year, i'm moving to Canada." because people are willing to pay more, when they get paid more. Minimum wage also varies by industry. Servers and barstaff in the US get paid severely under what's liveable. They have to rely on tips to pay rent, buy food, pay bills, etc. The average US minimum wage in the food and hospitality industry is already a staggeringly low 4.25/hr. And with places with shitty service, or simply shitty food, they aren't getting those tips to live in.
Also, the food industry is one of THE largest, if not THE largest employers in the US, with over 60% of job positions being filled by waiters and waitresses. Cutting a minimum wage job like that from 30-40 hours, to below 29, is going to seriously impact the economy, and how many people are going to need government assistance, be it from welfare to work programs, to a competitive government healthcare program, because restaurant standards are slipping, causing more people to become ill and unable to work, which results in lawsuits and other expenses, injury and time off work, further impacting the economy. Not to mention, if a job doesn't have a paper trail of why said worker was fired, they could collect unemployment which is more money spent for someone who doesn't 'have' to work for a few months.
You know where you can get really good pizza? Sam's club.
I'm originally from NYC. I've had plenty of Mom & Pop pizzas that taste better than Papa John's. Actually I think the only thing they have going for them for me is that garlic sauce, but that's because no one else offers it.
And it's not as easy to get out of the pizza place as it seems. I worked in retail at minimum wage. I was a full-timer working at 38-40 hours a week; even more during the holidays. I was there for 7 months and got ill (mentally and physically) at least 3 times while there. I did not have health insurance of any kind. I wasn't in school either, so I was immediately taken off my parents' insurance when I hit 19. One of the times I got sick, they called an ambulance. The bill that followed was something like 900 bucks. I was there for 40 hours a week and minimum wage back then wasn't even 8 bucks. Took years to get that bill paid off. I eventually quit that place, but it's not easy finding a job as a young person who couldn't finish college (well, even if you finish college there's no guarantee) and doesn't have too much work experience. Hence they HAVE to go into fast food or into retail stores, and everything's all messed up because now those with little experience/schooling have to compete with those who could probably do better, but can't because there's nothing there. This guy is only hurting himself. Those folks who he decided to screw over, those who are essentially doing this job that can be hazardous to your health because someone forgets to wash their hands after pooping, are the ones who are gonna get out of the pizza shop... and probably won't be able to find anything else. So screw him. [/wall of text] Why all the rage? The only difference between Papa John's and some other pizza place is that PJ is talking about it. Most pizza people I know only worked 30-39 hours when 40 hours was full time. So of course when shifting that to 30 hours, you'll see the pizza companies push back to 25-29 hours.
The good news? More jobs. The bad news? Less money. Just driving through town I noticed "Now Hiring" on 3 different pizza places. Also 300 million is a lot of money for one person, but if you start taking even a small loss on tens of thousands of pizza sales per day it would take no time to burn through that. Protest all you want, but if you don't like what he's doing I suggest you look into the other pizza places before you order your next one. |
