I'm about to order an SSD right now, which one should I get?

Either Crucial M4, Intel 520, or OCZ Vertex 4.

I'm probably going to pick up a Vertex 4 if I build a new computer in the near future.

I got an M4 from Amazon, should be here Thursday.

hey Bekisa, you want to read something troubling?

I know a particular hospital that as a policy uses IE7, can't upgrade to 9, and 8 is incompatible with their other software, and won't even let people use Firefox (or any other browser), I mean they have firewalls and such, but still... could you imagine?

Wouldn't doubt it sadly :( We've come across a few hospitals by complete accident when running pentests against customers. So far my best "find" is a remote Prescription Drug dispenser (think ATM that gives you drugs). Here's something similar but not the same make/model since I can't legally tell you that haha -- http://www.instymeds.com/

I know a few very high up government agencies and airports that do something similar too :( Archaic systems that don't work with anything higher than Win98 and cannot be patched because it might no work with their legacy items, yet hold technology secrets of many aircraft. Scares me but nothing I can do about it!

Try a Sam's Club members card at a random swipe-card door sometime and see if it opens. You wouldnt believe how often it will work and some of the places it will.

Ok me again... i failed at some stuff and now need to fix it. so anyways let me throw down some info

I have two storage devices in my computer, a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. now i have everything and its mother installed on my SSD which leaves it with 5gigs of room left. -.- so i need to fix that.

summary. 3 storage devices. 240gb ssd, 120gb ssd, 1tb hdd. where should i put what?

Also should steam and all steam downloads go on my HDD? because i dont think i can split them up... i guess i could run my OS and ffxiv on my 120gb and run steam/games on my 240gb.. can my mods be saved in my hdd and still work on games in my ssd? if so i think that would work.

honestly as long as your OS(s) are on your SSD it doesn't really matter. put some games that you use frequently on your SSD and everything else just shove to storage.

what i would do is, have your primary SSD for OS and maybe ff14
2nd SSD for steam + all games
and hdd for all storage + media (pics, files, videos etc)

yes that is what i was thinking, keepings the OS/drivers/ffxiv on my 120 *Even though the 240SSD is faster* and steam and games on my other SSD. my question though is can my game mods be on my HDD?

So guys i have a question. idk if browser matters or not but my imac through wifi gets 5.5-6.0 download and a constant .91 upload. but the computer i built gets anywhere from 4.7s-5.8s with the average around 5.2 for download but only does a .4 for upload.. and its on a wired connection (dont have wifi card) so my question is would it be the drivers on my computer? and how would i fix it?

it could be serveral things, brower is indeed one of them

try doing the speed test on different browsers (firefox, chrome, safari etc)

i assume your mobo has built in lan, so you could check your manufactorers website on drivers for that.

if none of that helps there are a couple of things you can also do.

- get a pci LAN network card that doesn't go off your mobo

- try upgrading your routers firmware, or check your routers settings.

honestly the problem could be anywhere and if it were me your not getting that much of a difference to warrant all the troubleshooting to fix it 8D

but thats just me LOL

/lazy

honestly the more i think about it, its probably your network settings in your router (could just be your built in NAT/firewall settings)

edit- remind me to sotp posting when i start drinkin D:

You need to be very careful with CCleaner, especially if you tinker with the registry cleaning option. I used it before I really understood what it would do and completely ruined my windows install (that was a long time ago mind)

Edit: You need to close all applications when running a speed test otherwise you wont get an accurate result

ok everyone i figured it out. god damnit that took forever. ok so when i installed everything for the mobo i installed asus ai suite ii. now this had network icontroller on it and i allowed it to run. it ruins your upload... i tried to just turn it off (by unchecking the box) but that didnt work. so then i just uninstalled the entire thing. (sad because it looks really nice) and now my download is a constant 6 (not 2-6 like it was before) and my upload is a solid .91 just like my mac.

now people said that icontroller only ruined lan and now wifi but my computer doesnt have wifi. so i had to uninstall. i may install it again later if you guys say ai suite ii is a good thing to have. anyways glad that nightmare is over and now im going to test my upload speed
