Do any of the North American justice systems have any idea what the point of jail is?
In North America there are only two purposes (as far as the justice system is concerned) for jail/prison. Keep dangerous or otherwise undesirable people out of the community, and to bring in money.

Three. Vengeance.

when 2/3 of the reasons people are in jail are corrupt,
you wonder why the society is deteriorating rapidly.

That one is all on someone's perspective. I wouldn't view jail/prison as vengeance. Dude who killed my brother did less than 2 years, he coulda spent 20 in there, I didn't feel better at all. I won't feel better until I find out he died, and not in his sleep or peacefully, either.. Maybe he could fall down a canyon and break both his legs on the way down and then die to the elements. That would be vengeance to me.

By vengeance I more meant that Americans in general seem to have a very "*** you, you were wrong and you should live a terrible life from hereon for it" rather than a "Something is wrong and you need help to make sure it doesn't happen again" view when it comes down to prison stuff.

I'm sorry about your brother, Slip. Too bad that punishing the *** out of the murderer won't rehabilitate him, but there'd be a shot that he'd become a better member of society if we worked on rehabilitation.

Ah, okay, I agree with that.

You're right that he could become a productive member of society (although he got slapped on the wrist for cold blooded murder so now he thinks he can get away with whatever, and he's demonstrated that after he got out by threatening my mom and other brother) but I cared about my brother too much to forgive him. I really doubt I ever will. So I'm always going to wish the worst on him.

I know it makes me a hypocrite to be for the rights/rehabilitation of criminals, but then go "except in this case", but I can't (and even if I could I would refuse to) help/change that.

you're only human after all, I'd say you were a little unstable if you could forgive, giving the situation.
