PS2 users
Were either of the new AF's even reskins?
Odin.Tsuneo said: » They can add entirely new zones, but ps2 stops them from adding new gear. That makes perfect sense. It have nothing to do with HD size (since it got increased now for ps2 users) they can add loads of zones, trees and bushes, but if the game is limited on the RAM department, you will get the same icons and stuff like i mentioned before. Someone at SE is probably reading this and laughing his *** out ... lol
Firstly FFXI is not a normal PC game because the designer for the PC port made the awkward decision of having reduced efficiency over lower maintenance/update costs on their source code tree. Meaning they wrap the engine on a sort of virtual machine which behaves similarly as a PS2. You're running native PC code that skimps by not using several acceleration mechanisms the PC/Windows/DirectX platform offers for better performance just because the workers at SE want to be able to compile three sets of binaries from the same source tree in a single step. Comparing a PC to a PS2 is comparing apples to oranges since the architectures are so different and PCs are not restraint by set on stone specifications, the PS2 is. Also by being not "set on stone" the PC is obligated to use more generic processes and technologies to attain a wider compatibility level, which affects performance negatively. The PS2 is frozen in time, but it was at least twice as fast as the current offer PCs had back in 2000. Just wait, the next XBOX "Durango" thing is touting to be at least three times faster than the PC at time of release lol. Saying a PS2 is obsolete is fine as what makes something obsolete is lack of use/software and that's been happening to the PS2 since 2007. Lack of shelf space on shops probably is why SE did not put the PS2 logo on the NA website. Saying that a PC with PCSX2 can play a PS2 game properly is hilarious as even the PCSX2 devs know their product has tons of flaws/problems and issues. I even had been contacted by one of them and tried to help with giving him some homebrewn software tools he could use to make experiments on a real PS2 console, to fix geometry problems with the PCSX2 video emulation. I hope they really make it work right. But atm you're playing a PS2 game on PCSX2 you're playing a watered down, buggy game. Well that's it. I am liking the discussion, just don't make it into a flamewar, guys... \o/ Some games run better on PCSX2 than others. FFXII gave me very few problems when I emulated it. I was even waiting for a response to my comment earlier telling me how few games run well at all on pcsx2.

So are the PCs getting more powerful each passing day, which enable the emulator authors to actually mimic the behaviors of the target emulation without using shortcuts. That's why SEGA SATURN emulation was only possible after 2006 when 64BIT capable processors became common and performance was high enough. Like I said, eventually my comment about "watered down" experience of playing PS2 games on PC will be null and void. Also as you point out, the emulator gives obvious room for even improving the game experience. Which right now is only on some cases, eventually will be for every game on the PS2 library. hehe Siren.Kalilla said: » Q:FinalFantasy.de: There is no version of Final Fantasy XI for the PS3. I didn't see it D:
This thread was a good laugh though. Phoenix.Elspetta said: » Bismarck.Ruizutatakau said: » Siren.Kalilla said: » Q:FinalFantasy.de: There is no version of Final Fantasy XI for the PS3. Just like when the ps3 released to the market for the very first time. I doubt microsoft will put the next console to that price. $600? To be superior to current PC hardware it'd have to be >$800.
If they make it more powerful than a modern PC, it will still be obsolete in a relatively short amount of time.
i reduced some price because it's aimed as a console, but of course its's higher than that
I got my PC for about $800, and I consider it a budget PC, but it will still outperform the next xbox.
I think the next xbox will use a ATI 7000+ something? I dont remember. but they already published the gpu info
ew ATI... why...
I like the fact that the ps4 will be compatible with direct11 , so games will be more easier to develop
Digital download to ps3 would make me very happy. as it stands, if my old 80g ps3 takes a poop, I'd have to buy a laptop to play, & I would /cry.
can it really be that hard to do? (not really on topic, but meh.) I'm guilty of using ATI, but I have no complaints.
I mean I guess to make their consoles cheaper, but still. Inferior physics engines and stuff... maybe I'm just spoiled.
using risc cpu's over the ibm based model would drive price down in order to get more hardware for the $
I like ati better. Just personal preference, drivers are more stable and cheaper for a similar or same performance
I wouldn't say the drivers are more stable. Outside of new Kepler-based GPUs nvidia drivers are pretty tight atm
There is so much stupid flying around in these PS2 hate threads lmao.
Odin.Tsuneo said: » If they make it more powerful than a modern PC, it will still be obsolete in a relatively short amount of time. Well, PCs were already more powerful than the PS2 by 2004 (Pentium 4s with HT and Geforce3/4 or Radeon 9600 AGP) when this game released for PS2 in the North America. All I wanted to say, with all my posts in this kind of thread: The general vitriol against PS2 has no basis, is pointless and achieves nothing. But funny enough it's Square-Enix fault for starting it with their "PS2 limitations" trash excuse. lol Apparently excuses do come back to bite one's butt ... when and if se comes out with a way for ps2 users can i ask that someone on this site can tell the people here how the ps2 users are going to be able to play ffxi or will the ps2 users need to make the move to 360.

he also assumes the 360 is an improvement over the ps2, which is lulzy at best. Found couple of e machines at this old Business place we were doing construction at.
e machines T3410 AMD Sempronc(tm) Processor 3400T 2.01GHZ 2.0 GB (Was 896 MB of Ram) HD wdc wd1600BB-22Guco These I bought: Wireless controller Logitech Wireless Keyboard Logitech K360 Once I clean this baby up, upgrade and download programs that need it to be install was able to play this game without any issues. I never look back on ps2 and ps3 they are in my closet.. LOL |
