Hi hi,
So I have XIV installed and it runs ok on low settings but the graphics are so rough around the edges and the load times are awful. So I'm just looking for any upgrades that would help me run the game on standard or a little higher. I'd really appreciate any info :D

Hi hi,
So I have XIV installed and it runs ok on low settings but the graphics are so rough around the edges and the load times are awful.
When you say load times are awful, what do you mean? Cause I run the game on MAX settings and sometimes ***still doesn't load for me. (Re: no matter what settings I play on, sometimes mobs won't load for me, so if that's your problem upgrading miiiiight not help that much :<)

1. Usually the first login that goes from character select to the actual game. It goes to black screen after choosing character and says "loading" for a while.
2. In towns: it can be very laggy...I'll be running and jumping from one spot to another at times in Ul'dah and Gridania (sp?)
3. Talking to NPCs sometimes takes a few seconds for dialogue to pop up (like at a shop or something)
Stuff like that :/
Ninja edit: oh, yeah NPCs take time to appear as well lol

alot of it is server side <one reason for the new 2.0 graphics engine and network/server equipment they plan on adding end of the year> i havnt run it on max settings for awhile myself <around midish now :d> but even the ingame options have a few tweeks ya can do to help with performance like dust effects and such. if ya realy conserned about makeing the jaggies smooth out there should be options within the cards interface itself < smoother for better graphics, jaggies for porformance>
but if its not too much of a problem, ya can try to hold out for the new engine later this year.

I turned off the dust/shadows and stuff but it still runs kinda meh :/ I'm not well versed in PCs so I don't know if my computer is too weak or just needs a tune up or if it's just SE.
Really, I'm just trying to get the game to look better than XI (lol) and run smoothly more often than not.

i'm currently running the game on my olde 5770. one thing i noticed is my card stuggles with the game if i run at higher resolutions. so sadly i'm playing at 1360x768 for now, untill if get a better graphics card. i run the game fine, on medium~high settings. pretty much everything is on high, except shadow detail which i put to low. and i have almost no lag in that game at all.
the 1st thing i would do is try turning down the resolution. if that still doesn't work, make sure you have no AA set, and make sure ambient occlusion and depth of field are turned off.
if that STILL doesn't work, try OC'ing your gfx card, just make sure you have enough airflow in your case to support this.
you can also try ingame settings. make sure your set to 60fps and not 30fps, and turn off some effects etc.

I run my game in windowed mode as well, I think it's the 1360x768 actually (at work so can't really check it lol) Umm..Yeah I think I have the 5770 as well but if I attempted to run on high I'm sure my pc would cry. All the other settings you mentioned above are set cuz I looked up some tips on how to improve the game.
Also I use Gboost to give my pc an extra push to play the game.
I'll admit my computer got a lot slower than when I first got it last year...back then it ran the game decently on high settings, not so much now.

windowed.
just a follow up post. i changed my settings to high on everything (still no AA, ambient occlusion, and depth of field) but max on everything else. and i was getting the exact problems you were having.
not only was ***super laggy, my gpu temp skyrocketed to over 70C (i've never seen that happen before)
so try these settings:
display mode: Windowowed
window size: 1360x768
multisampling: No AA
General Drawing Quality: 8
Background Drawing quality: 4
Shadow Detail: low
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Texture Quality : High
Texture Filtering : Highest
you should be able to run the game fine in those settings, at least i am. it doesn't look like poop either, far from it in fact. but i really can't wait till i get a new card to try this game in max settings :Q
my pc specs - AMD 6200 FX 3.8ghz (6core)
- 8gb DDR3 Ram
- Radeon HD 5770 1gb GDDR5
- Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Ah, you have 8 gb of Ram. I'm running on 4 :x
That's probably the issue so I'll go get moar ram and hopefully I can run it on decent settings.
