I've been playing ffxi and other games on laptops for years and anyone who's ever watched my video's has always given me rave reviews and never said anything negative. These aren't the lap tops of the 90's
right cause having a laptop that'll play a 10year olde game obviously qualifies as a "gaming" laptop. (that even the ~300$ basic laptops of today with intel graphics can handle >.>;)
and i was talking about ff14..... do me a favor. go try and run the ff14 benchmark on your stuff then post some numbers. cause clearly you have no idea what you are talking about (or are just really ignorant to the amount of gfx power that is needed to run ff14 w/o being all choppy/ugly)
@tiger,
doing a bit of research before going to work, i would try to get something better than a GTX560m if you want to play the game with decent framerates and not on lower settings/resolution.
has anyone ever used/seen a battalion laptop? found one for 1100$ with a GTX 670m in it. its an ibuypower pc tho :/

um.. I have played 14 on my laptop without any issues whatsoever. I quit cause the game sucks in general.

about a year ago i went thru 4 diff laptops before i found one that ran ffxi well. 1st 3 had nvidia mobile dedicated cards in them, ran all the new games perfect cept for ffxi. the one that worked out for me was a dell with a radeon card in it, runs all games and ffxi like a beast.

Yeah, the laptop I use now uses a Radeon X1200pro with a catalyst control. Runs awesome

Whats funny is i pretty much had the opposite issue with my desktop. went thru a few radeon cards that ran ffxi shitty before going back to numerous nvidia cards that ran it like a beast.
personal experience, ffxi on mobile laptop video cards = go with radeon. ffxi on a decent desktop = go with nvidia.
im sure there are set ups where people have gotten both cards to work on both desktop and laptops, but from a decent amount of personal trial and error, i would say its pretty safe to assume its easiest to go with what i said.

Would love a benchmark score or something. I'm really having a hard time believing you lol.

Integrated nvidia or ati .. that's what i mean, but ffxi runs slow/not good on any intel hd video card. That have been proven in several threads on this website, I also used to have intel hd as gpu on my laptop, doesn't perform decently @ abyssea and jeuno .etc. Can't play ff14 with intel hd
that just simply isn't true...
integrated graphics can run XI (not sure if it can at 1920x1080) but it can run it just fine.
as far as the Amd vs Intel pricing/performance, in most cases that isn't true...
also not all intel run hot.
Sager is what Alienware used to be, but still overpriced to hell imo.
and according to some quick research the nvidia 610m doesn't meet XIV's minimum spec, but the 540m does. also says the ati card won't cut it either.
not sure how accurate this site is though:
http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=795&canMyGpuRunIt=Final%20Fantasy%20XIV%20Online
now I'm going to go see what card I have, just for the lulz
mine meets the minimum specs for xiv, too bad I have no interest.

probably want to go a little better though if you want to play XIV at higher settings, but not currently on newegg with a 1k price cap.

did try diff drivers, with research i found the ones other ppl had said worked for them throughout the years, more than 15 i tried. even found posts for the nvid control panel settings. yes, it did improve the fps and performance of ffxi but not to my liking, still wasnt the best it should be for how new the gfx card was.
how many laptop video cards have you personally experienced to run ffxi as good as it can run?
ive also personally tried a few intergrated intel hd cards, they run ffxi better than an xbox imo but certainly not well enough to make me not wanna pull my hair out. ive yet to see one consistently stay around 20 fps, which imo isnt even that good but is bearable.

I know people like laptops for the convenience of going from place to place with it, but when it comes to gaming just get a desktop, they over heat too easily when under full load and even tho they've come a long way, still struggle to come up with proper venting and air circulation to keep things cool, I wouldn't get one to play anything that would cause it to kick the fans into high speed, but with a laptop that doesn't even require a whole lot.

shouldnt own a laptop these days with out a fan mat to put ur laptop on top of which is enough to keep ur laptop in good health. my laptop has been on like 24/7 almost for the last year and half, basicly since i got it. runs ffxi as well as my desktop, and i pretty much treat it like a desktop hooked up hdmi to a big screen tv with wireless controller and ive yet to encounter any probs and by the time i do, if i do, i'll be ready for a new one.

dunno, I'm not a fps junkie.

if you get a good laptop you don't have this problem, some people can't afford both, or want mobility.
fewer and fewer people are getting desktops, stationary computers are becoming a thing of the past. The best case scenario is pushing for a demand of a form factor for laptops and then they'll be customizable.

As mentioned with previous posts and threads... Sager notebooks can compete with any desktop on the market without flinching... but you pay for it.
Look at this sexy piece of machinery:
http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_info&model_name=NP9270
It even has three hard drives on a RAID setup and supports quad channel DDR3 SDRAM up to 32GB lol... I mean seriously... the fully decked out package with everything is around $8,000 lol... go look at the insanity.
The type of computer one has depends on the individual. If you don't like laptops for gaming, then don't get a laptop for gaming... pretty simple concept really... but don't act like good ones don't exist today.
Personally I enjoy custom build desktops more, but respect the hell out of what Sager does for their notebooks.

they make them very well. but it's not worth the price imo, that one you're showing there is basically a desktop in a laptop body.
I'd sooner build a custom desktop and attach a rechargable battery and build the charging circuit/custom psu and attach a screen to it.
be cheaper too.
edit: basically it would be a bulky clusterfuck, but hey it could run minutes on battery just enough to get to point B and plug it back in.

I couldn't agree with you more about rather doing a nice desktop... the BASE model for $2,100 isn't too bad honestly... but doing it up crazy isn't worth $8,000 no lol. More or less a show off piece though.

Sager's are pretty much the new Alienware pre-sellout to dell. A little pricey but very impressive.
I have an Asus G60 and love it to death still. MSI would be a second choice hands down... but if I had high amounts of disposable income though, Sager all the way.
By Jetackuu 2012-05-01 21:17:19
I know.
and if I had that much $ laying around I'd have a machine shop build be a case that fit an ATX board in it, and custom build a psu+batteries.
wouldn't need it to run long.
In fact, I should get somebody who's good with cad to build me some cases, could use a custom 360 and ps3 case while I'm at it, those *** need better cooling.
My friend is in the market for a new laptop and he's looking in the 600-1000 range. Basically wants to be able to game with it and have it last a decent amount of time.
Any recommendations?
I was looking at this for 800
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834246324
but then I saw (Even though it's refurbed, for only 200 more wtf)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152314
Anyone ever got a refurbed laptop before and is Newegg reliable with something like that? (Also, for the specs is it worth the price).
Any other recommendations are welcome. Looking for quad core, but if there's a decent i3 or i5 that will play current games, can look at those, too
Edit:
lol nvm out of stock guess those sold quick
