okay ive spent hours looking up Reasons as to why this is happening, Cannot find any.

im runnin windower, Windows 7 x64 bit, just for info

Ill be playing the game, and itll just freeze on me, nothing else freezes, just the game, i have to go into Task manager to force shut it down, And most of the time i can get on for a few hours before it happens again, But lately it happens more often where i log back in and it immediately freezes.

If anyone else was having a similar problem, and got it fixed, or has a possible solution, please, post. Thank you in advance

curious if there is anything new you have installed or done to your pc to cause this, maybe a restore to a date when it was not freezing?

Had a problem like this. Windows would show a crash for playonline and finally got so worse the first seond of logging in i'd crash. what i'd recommend is going on playonline and doing a check file for playonline and ffxi. this didn't help me but it's always good to try.

Anyways i had to completely delete everything and reinstall/download. no crashes since

Had issues myself. Sucks, but you have to reinstall. Not really issues since I did that. So many files to download. Always a good chance one of them is crupted.

Are you using anything (besides Windower) that hooks onto the game's memory?

Sounds to me like you have over-heating issues(?)
Have you checked BIOS or any utility program that shows your CPU and system Temps? Or even your video card temps.

?

I have no idea, my Video card gets hot as soon as the comps on though, like, real hot, i got a Fan blowing on it (my Motherboard is not in a case) And i seem to freeze a lil less then before, but its completely random ill have comp on all day and not freeze for hours, or ill turn comp on and itll freeze the first time i log in.

Also to the other stuff, i checked files, no problems (even my DAT swaps didnt get picked up o.O) So i reinstalled FFXI completely, Still doing it.

Did any of your programs (running) update? My FF would constantly crash and my graphics were so messed up after I updated my antivirus. Just a thought :X

All I know is, is that I can't get windower to work on my computer with FFXI no matter what I try, so I gave up on that venture and was satisfied because of the patience instilled in my PS2 playing brain. Do you freeze without windower?

This is more than likely your problem.

Check this program out: http://www.guru3d.com/category/rivatuner/
There is a section where you can check your GPU core temps. Obviously it will read cooler when you first turn your computer on, and will read more hotter than you've logged in and have the comp running for hours. You need to check and see how hot it really gets. Also, I personally don't recommend running your computer barebones without a case. You need air flow circulation.

unfortunately i cannot fit my PSU into the case i have, and the case i bought Wont work, since i cant find a manual for this Motherboard the comp i bought came with i cant plug in things to the right slots, so. i have no choice but to barebones. Ill Check my temps tomorrow when im running it for a while, post my scores up here.

if a fan helps and it only happens when you are using the game, it sounds like a heating issue.
how does it fair in other Resource intensive programs ?

have you tried a 3d stress tester ? ( furmark)
a cpu stress tester? (stressprime, linpak etc)
a memory check ? ( it always nice to do a memtet86+ run to eliminate that factor)

As i said, in the post just before this one, and the one you eevn responded to, i dont have a Manual for my Mother Board, So i cannot hook it up to a new case.

And in responce to the other guy Im DLing the Heat thing now to check the numbers on that. Nothing else seems to really be effected, although my internet has been Hiccuping lately, freezing for like 2 second then starting again.

Do you use a CPU that has more than 2 cores? I had this problem for a few hours, every time I re-installed FFXI fresh on a new computer.

The problem was that FFXI doesn't like multi-core CPU's, for my problem at least. What I did to fix this, was whenever Windower or POL was launched, I would go into the Task Manager (right click on the Windows 7 task bar, click "start task manager" or CTRL+ALT+Delete and same thing), go to "Processes" tab and find "pol.exe *32", right click this and click "Set Affinity". My problem was that POL was trying to use all 6 of my CPU's cores, not good for a single-core game. So de-select them all, except "CPU 1". Click OK and the game shouldn't blip anymore.

FFXI caused my CPU, whenever using Windower, to go to 100% and freeze constantly, doing this "trick" managed to make FFXI take up no more than 8% of my CPU, even in Jeuno.

Other than that, if it doesn't work, try turning of "Bump Mapping" as this was another problem on a separate computer.

If the affinity trick works for you, let us know, because you'll need to do this every. single. time. you play FFXI, unless you use another program (ICE-Affinity) to make it permanently set to 1 core, if not suavy in MSDoS commands.

TL;DR -

1. Open up POL
2. Open up Task Manager
3. Go to Processes Tab
4. Find "pol.exe *32"
5. Right click it, click "set affinity"
6. Deselect all cores, select "CPU 1" (make sure it's CPU 1, as it's the best fit)
7. Click OK and have fun.

There are aftermarket coolers for vid cards, both air and water cooled kits. I used an air cooler kit on my vid card and dropped 30c in temp.

And like someone above asked, computer specs?

If it was an overheating issue, your entire workstation would have frozen and not just FFXI. It seems like a file during your initial install was corrupted or not installed correctly.

You can do a file check like what Jinzuki suggested but my suggestion would just be to redo the whole installation clean from scratch. That way, you know it's fresh.

Not necessarily. you can have single programs freeze due to heating issues. seen it lots of time.

overheating can cause smaller calculations errors that some progams does not get affected by and others do.

this can especially be true under windows 7 wher the OS ha the opportunity to reload a frozen graphics driver, which makes you workstation continue even when your graphical intesive program crashes or freezes.
