| Viewing maps of other areas
Greetings!
The other day on the JP forums there was a suggestion to make it possible to view maps of other areas by selecting the map from the key item list. The development team decided to look into it and while they are still discussing this more in depth, they came up with a couple of ideas.
Viewing the map of other areas
We are discussing to see if it's possible to view the map of other areas by preparing an area-selection interface similar to the area search and display the map of the area players select. There are areas with multiple maps, but for these we are considering to display the map of the area in order.
Markers on maps of other areas
We are also looking into whether or not it's possible to place markers on the maps of other areas when displayed. We are starting to see some possibilities so the design is being worked on at the moment. As long as everything goes well, you will not only be able to view the map of other areas, but also place markers on them as well.
However, in regards to sharing the marker placement with party members or displaying the location of party members in other areas on the map, this would be difficult since the method for handling the data in multiple areas needs to be solved first. We will continue to look in to the possibility, but please understand that this is quite difficult to make happen.
Balance Adjustments
Along with the discussion on the feedback we have received, we are also reviewing the balance on acquiring the area maps. As of now, the methods on how to obtain maps vary depending on the area. Some you can purchase from NPCs, while others you receive as a reward for completing quests. Overall, we would like to make them easier to obtain.
Once we get some more information on the solidified plans we will be sure to let you know. | |

is there a way to highlight a mission and make a map marker appear? I'm trying to find Dangruf Wadi in Bastock and for some reason the maps just seem useless, I must be doing something wrong because im wasting ages just running round south gustaburg where its located
any help how you go about finding places will be appreciated, sorry for total newb question its a weird feeling being one lolz =) |
While it won't be possible for us to implement this right away, we have been looking into this for quite some time. I'll be sure to let you know of any progress made as we continue to look into this feature. | |

Where's a real-time map? Just the other day, I had to guide a friend through the jungle. Lol. Would have been so much easier if I could see his marker move instead of having to spam /map every 2 seconds.

My only concern with this is that I feel like 70-80% of the time I'm actually checking a map, i'm doing it hurriedly and keeping up sneak and invis at the same time. Adding a couple extra steps to this process would screw that up even more to do safely.
I entirely agree. This is the ***that keeps them having an excuse to push back relevant content like cop rings etc..... BUT BUT I DONT WANNA HIT DOWN ARROW TWICE TO SELECT WHICH ZONE TO WARP TO QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ

I don't really see the purpose of viewing maps of other places from anywhere.
I usually just use maps to see where about I am at in the area in question.
If you need to check positions of something.. you usually get the locations on the internet beforehand anyway and thus could just look up the maps there.. while you are looking for information already.
I suppose you could make markers more comfortably though but how often does one make or change markers, honestly. >_>

As for why it's there since alot of maps came from doing things (mainly the coffer ones) that people no longer do it makes sense that they would give a new way to get them.

As for why it's there since alot of maps came from doing things (mainly the coffer ones) that people no longer do it makes sense that they would give a new way to get them. What? Those are easy ones to get, kill a mob, get a key, find chest, done. It's the lengthy quested maps for a zone you go into a couple times a year that annoy me. My completionist wants them, but I can't be bothered to do them since I have no real need for it.
Overall, to me it is pointless to look at maps form another zone since I can look at a map online, but I do know some players that could benefit from this.

they mentioned at least one time before that people within the company (whether the Special Task Force or the dev team) surf the social pages and forums. I wouldnt doubt they are aware, and I would bet a dollar to doughnuts that they find it funny.

Unless they are going to add a widescan tracker to an active quest so I can get my 100gil and rocksalt faster w/o spaming /map who cares?
Why would you need to see a map of a area you aren't in.....and if you do you already probably looking at the quest and map on the interwebs
