TV series have had better writing lately. I'd rather pay for HBO and Showtime than go to the movie theater now. At least I have been getting my money's worth with 'The Borgias', 'Boardwalk Empire', 'Shameless', 'United States of Tara', 'The Tudors', 'Dexter', 'Californication', 'Homeland', 'Big Love', 'Curb', 'Flight of the Concords', 'Rome', 'Deadwood', (and just recently) 'Game of Thrones'.

Not to mention, 'Breaking Bad', 'Mad Men', 'The Walking Dead', 'American Horror Story', 'Parks and Rec', 'Community', and the list goes on and on and on...

Oh I agree 100%. Movies have become recycled garbage and the only things I watch are TV shows.

I also love TV shows because they are more in depth and have deeper characters than any movie could ever hope.

Imagine if The Sopranos was a movie. It would have severely lacked opposed to the about 70 hours of plot and character development.

I think most of you are only looking at it one sided. The whole shutdown those sites are a simple case of them protecting their jobs. I'll be honest, I use them and download movies and stuff. However I understand that when i do that, it takes the potential revenue out of the picture. Its quite simple really. Hollywood made a product to sell, but that guy is giving away their work for free and the only thing the other guy has to do, is click a few buttons and wait 60 secs. So ya I can understand them shutting down the sites and trying to fight it off the internet. Sadly though, they wont win. Kill 1, there will be 2 more up within 24hrs.

you don't understand it if that's what you think, they aren't trying to protect their assets they're trying to destroy competing industries.

copyright law has been bastardized by them in the first place, it shouldn't have even got this far.

it isn't competing when that industry is using someone else work and giving it away. That is stealing. Just like if you walked into wal-mart and told someone, "you don't have to buy that, just take it" and they do... I promise you cops and security will be called. Simply, it isn't rightfully yours to give away.

But if they saw them as competing companies and not something they can magically make disappear with campaign donations, they would be much better off for it.

Valve decided to act like pirates were a competiting company and are much better off for it.

People laughed when they launched Steam in Russia, because of the insane rates of piracy.

But it flourished there. Because Valve believed that if you give people a chance and believe that they are all honest and just want an easy and cheap way to consume your product, then they would pick the legal way.

Honestly, I don't think the media industry is hurt at all by pirates. But it's cheap to buy off politician, so they figure that if they can cheaply get rid of pirates they'll make more money in the long run.

By the long run, I mean the OVER 100 YEARS they have to make money from their product.

you also missed the point if you thought I was calling pirates a "competing industry" these laws won't harm pirates, they will harm legitimate companies and the tech industry as a whole, here and worldwide.

As for your point, their "right" to their property they created is limited, if it's better for the public to have it in the public domain it should be after a short amount of time.

That's the origin of the laws intent and how it should be, if you want a reference check the US Constitution.

Copyright was meant to encourage growth and innovation, not to make the owner of said copyright filthy rich and *** everyone else. As it stands now it stifles growth and stomps out innovation.

Here's the current push for one-world governance of the internet.

I don't care for the idea but i suppose it's inevitable, just a matter of how long we can postpone these things. No voting till December, we'll probably all forget by then.

Uh we already forgot, then you had to remind us. Now we have to think about it for a few seconds before forgetting again.

I was going to make a post ranting, but I decided I'm too tired, pretty much if you went to go see a movie since this started, you're supporting the people who are bribing them to screw us over, can only blame yourselves, the only way to 100% stop this is with a boycott.
