FFXI On Parallels Is Crashing

Hello, I'm have FFXI working fine on my boot camp side of my macbook pro. I recently bought parallels, installed and used the transfer for boot camp settings option. Whenever I try to play FFXI. I make it to the character selection screen and parallels just crashes and takes me back to the start parallels screen.

Anyone have any ideas of too why this is happening to me?

Try to reinstall ffxi, maybe the transfer didn't go perfectly

You need to always remember that FFXI is a very old program. You most likely have to reinstall it so that all the DLLs and registery items were not corrupt and that windows have hooked them right. You can save yourself some updating time by copying all the ROM files from the FFXI install folder, installing a completely new FFXI install, and then transferring the ROM folder back once install is complete.

Ok I'll give this a go. I have to buy a disc version ;;. I bought the digital one instead.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I've been running FFXI under Parellels in a Bootcamp partition for a long time. I upgraded hard drives, so I re-installed everything. FFXI has been working fine under Parallels (not using a Bootcamp partition this time.) However, today I go to log in and Parallels crashes at the character selection screen. No update has been done to Parallels and no configuration changes have been made from when I played last night...

I just answered my own question...

If the VM is configured for "Power Savings", then Parallels runs on integrated video instead of the Nvidia video card. Integrated video under Parallels doesn't work for FFXI for some reason.

Anyways, if anyone else runs into this, the fix in Parallels 7 is...

Go to the VM Config > Options > Optimizations > Power

Select 'Better Performance'

I went to my settings and it was already set to 'Better Performance'. Yet it still froze at the character selection screen :(
