Random Question thread (FFXI related)
I know we have a lot of multiboxers here. I've been having a strange issue with my controller ever since I change my monitor, which makes zero sense... but that's the only thing that changed.
I use a PS5 controller via bluetooth. My button presses are extremely delayed or ignored completely randomly. The more strange part is my analog sticks and d pad are not affected by this. So I can be running around 100% normal, but the second I try to menu, talk to a npc, open a macro, ect, the button input is either delayed by some random amount between 0-3 seconds or it never registers the input. This seems to be reset by alt-tabing over to another character and pressing a few buttons, then going back to whatever instance I was on and it works fine for a few moments. This seems to affect my alts more than my main char, but maybe that has to do with the order I open my FFXI instances? Anybody else experience anything like this before? I have absolutely no clue what could be doing this. Shot in the dark, but FFXI polls directinput for both a queue of recent actions *and* a current controller state. I haven't traced which is used for each action, but I'd bet:
Potential solutions would be to use DS4Windows or something else to map to xinput or raise/uncap framerate may also be fixed on Ashita4(my controller hook pulls 64 per frame, discards stick input in dead zone, and gives ffxi 16 so it doesn't bog down as quickly) Client lag?
Has the game been running for a long time when this happens? Shiva.Thorny said: » Shot in the dark, but FFXI polls directinput for both a queue of recent actions *and* a current controller state. I haven't traced which is used for each action, but I'd bet:

I will try setting that up again tonight and see if it makes a difference. Fenrir.Jinxs said: » Client lag? Has the game been running for a long time when this happens? Try rewasd over ds4 there may or may not be a free version on github

I know Wiki says the amplifier buff will last 72 hours upon use, but thats not what I mean. There is no buff given when you get an amp charge, nor is there a way to see if you have one available to you to my knowledge?
doesn't ever wear off iirc, until you use next moogle amp.
is cloud of darkness the only new monster model since seekers? feels like there has to be more but drawing a blank. So to the best of your knowledge I can:
build a charge use amp on the next fight do two more fights on top to build a new charge and keep that charge handy until my next Gaol foray? Even if its not for days/weeks? Superb, thanks Kaffy said: » doesn't ever wear off iirc, until you use next moogle amp. is cloud of darkness the only new monster model since seekers? feels like there has to be more but drawing a blank. Believe so, its all recolors afaik Kaffy said: » doesn't ever wear off iirc, until you use next moogle amp. is cloud of darkness the only new monster model since seekers? feels like there has to be more but drawing a blank. Even if amp wears off, can use another amp and still get the charge as long as you don't go into Gaol. I saw an addon once that showed target lines in game like FF12. Any idea what that is?
Why does autoRA not work with throwing? I'm so bored I want to skill up throwing.

The actual answer is to get on nin with lvl 1 weapons. skilling up is not the hill you want to die on is it? pressing your /ra macro a million times to cap isn't exactly peak gameplay. people have been using scripts to skill magic and the like for decades.
the real answer is: don't, buy books for the most annoying skills. I'm not trying to convince him (or anyone) he should enjoy hitting /ra a million times, I just find the phrasing extremely ironic. "I'm bored so I want to watch FFXI play itself" as though watching a bot do skillups for you is entertaining. Big brain people like me never do only one thing at once. I don't think the issue is that skilling up is boring or that you're botting it; it's that you phrased your initial question as "I'm so bored I want..." as if turning on a skill bot would resolve your boredom.
Yeah, usually if you're bored you find something that's engaging and entertaining. Skilling up isn't that.
I'm writing, which is equally boring but necessary. I like to have something going on productive in FFXI at the same time.
By bored I meant bored in FFXI, levelling up throwing is one of the least useful things I could possibly do but have little small things left to do. Big brain people like me never do only one thing at once. The funny thing is Maletaru gave you probably the best answer to satisfy your boredom and skill up Throwing at the same time, but because you've blocked him, you can't see his suggestion. "Big brain". I could run a script using RA over and over but couldn't be bothered.
For real though - why the hell would he think I would be watching it? It's not 2005 where you can't minimise FFXI! That wasn't the answer I was referring to.
Didn't realise that would level it up but it makes sense.

Any reason these have dropped 45m to 36m over a few days? The price was only going up and up for months. |
